Installing a 1.02 mod into 1.00?
DunaRocketeer replied to DunaRocketeer's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Thankyou for your input -
Hi, I have the DOE mod for 1.0 installed, but unfortunately it has a rather annoying bug - you get clusters of really bright flares that come and go randomly. Looking at DOE's changelog for 1.02, there's a mention of 'fixed ghost flares' which sounds promising. I'm wary of just deleting the old DOE and installing the newer one and possibly screwing my game up, so I thought I'd ask if anyone knows whether a 1.02 mod will work with a 1.00 game? Thanks.

Got this bug with DOE. It's such a lovely mod, but seeing these really bright clusters of flares kinda devalues it.

Heh, I have a really similar design myself, although a little smaller (Shorter fuselage, no in-line cockpit, very similar wings except narrower) The jets are indeed too OP for the design, so I tweakscaled the basic engines into a smaller size. I agree about this sort of thing making great survey aircraft

Started space station construction, making full use of Kerbal Inventory System. I feel like an ISS astronaut!

One thing that is really bothering me is that everyone seems to be commenting that it's an Interstellar prequel or an Interstellar ripoff. There are a few superficial similarities, but instead of a 1h70m pseudo-intellectual borefest with laughable plot points we may well be treated to a tight, well thought out thriller with decent characters and good humour. I really wish people would see that. However, I wouldn't be surprised if word of mouth turned those impressions around once it's released.

What top 10 (or less) mods couldn't you do without?
DunaRocketeer replied to Mulbin's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Environmental Visual Enhancement - The most important ksp mod Distant Object Enhancement - Lovely little visual mod, big visual impact Planet Shine - Same TAC life support - Great for the added challenge Kerbal Inventory System - Revolutionises EVA's and construction Kerbal Alarm Clock - Helps keep track of multiple missions and mission planning Tweak Scale - Opens up huge flexibility in building craft Chatterer - Great for game immersion -
I didn't intend it, but I made a rocket that's sorta similar to a Falcon 9/Dragon. I made a basic mainsail 1st stage, and fitted it with fins, airbrakes and a heatshield at the front so it nose dives stably back to Kerbin before parachuting into the ocean for reuse. A second stage is integrated into the spacecraft along with a 'trunk' full of KIS containers and life support consumables. It'll be useful for crew rotation and station construction until I unlock the cooler stuff later in the tech tree.

Got it, thankyou.

I haven't yet gotten to the point where I've unlocked the LV-N's in 1.0, but how are they dead? If you empty the tanks of oxidizer then surely your vessels have a better thrust to weight ratio than in pre-1.0? What am I missing here? Do you now go through fuel twice as quick? Also, I plan on using tweakscale on some aviation tanks to make the TWR even better.

What Goals Do You Make for Yourself?
DunaRocketeer replied to TheOfficialStorm's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Due to getting a newer pc recently, I've managed to add a bunch of mods without the game falling over. The relevant ones to my current goals are TAC LS (for extra realism), Tweakscale (offering more design flexibility) and Kerbal Inventory (to create small probes on the fly depending on need) - I want to fly a new version of my solar system explorer that take advantage of these features as well as using the stock resource scanning/mining features. Basically I'm aiming for a do-anything spaceship. -
Highly impressive looking work. As a guy who has occassionally used Unity for work, I take my hat off to you, it's not easy to make it look this good! A few questions if I may; what sort of framerate hits are you taking for this mod? Don't need to be too specific, I'd just like a general idea of how heavy this mod is to run. Also, does this mod apply to Duna and Laythe?

I feel that 'what isn't good enough' is not having clouds in the first place. EVE may have a few little issues that people might grumble about, but on balance it is far, far better to have it than not. Like others in this thread, I'm still unhappy that 1.0 was released with such a fundamental visual element missing. I can't stand to look at the stock game anymore after playing with EVE, DOE, PlanetShine. Chatterer is pretty good too.
-
I like to imagine Laythe as a mash-up of early earth lifeforms, with little prospect of it getting beyond the equivalent of the ediacaran biota due being in a radiation belt of Jool. Very little in the way of surface life, though, except for prokaryotes insulated in the rock and some weird photosynethesis-capable stromatolytes and algae along the shores to explain away the oxygen atmosphere (incidentally, that would make for interesting ground scatter).

OK Squad, you think our attitude sucks? Frankly I think you're completely wrong, and it's you who have been offensive, not us. There were several very obvious bugs/bad implementation with 1.0. The QA testers should have spotted them in 5 minutes, because the community sure as hell did. Next you rush out a quick series of 'hotfix' patches of that are causing memory leaks. Are you feeling burned by the fan community's negative reaction? I suggest you look in a mirror to find the root of the issue.

How did that heatshield mass bug not get caught by the supposedly excellent QA team? What the hell is going on with the parachutes? Why are the rapier engines constantly glowing? Why do landing gear wheels not rotate? Why are LV-N's damn well near unuseable without mucking up your ships with jury rigged heatsinks? Etc etc etc This was meant to be the most bug free version yet, and it's turning out to be just as compromised. I'm sorry I just can't get over how blindingly obvious the heatshield bug is, I mean you just can't miss it. Squad was told that going from beta to gold in such a short time would be ill advised, and it turned out exactly as many expected. I wasn't one of those people, but that faith has been dashed. Oh, and the game is going to get crucified by reviewers for fixable graphics shortcomings.

On pods flipping during re-entry
DunaRocketeer replied to Dizzle's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
^ Fearsclave, I'd agree that it wouldn't be a bug if it was due to unrealistic vehicle shapes, except for the fact that a parachute-pod-heatshield combo should be passively stable, which is not the case here. -

What has inverting parachutes got to do with it? My understanding of the problem is that the heatshields are physics-less, and are therefore adding mass to the command pod whilst not changing the COM, which leads o the vehicle flipping over. Sounds like a heatshield part problem to me. -

Much appreciated! -

Lots of questions because I'm having some trouble making sense of fixing this stuff: I'm looking at modulemanager now and find it absolutely bewildering - how does one use it? It's just a .dll file. Where do you paste the code that changes the physics significance (the code mentioned earlier in the thread)? Can I just open the heatshield part file in notepad and change the physics significance from there? -

Unbelievable that this got through QA. I'm not technically minded, but will nevertheless have to learn some sort of module manager plugin just to make the game playable. It's not my job to do SQUAD's work for them. Fail. -
Engaging HYPErdrive now.

She's packing quite a wallop... Shields weakening!

I was thinking along the same lines, but since KSP (and the Kerbals themselves) are a tad quirky, I'd go for the synthy 'Mach 1' theme from the same movie:

Seems more plausible than clouds, as much as I wish it was clouds. I like clouds. Clouds are nice.
