  1. I agree that a couple of days is too little for clouds, but I am still irrationally hoping for them. The game really would be complete.
  2. A toast! No seriously, I toasted my glass with the exhaust of an RT-10 Booster. Thankyou Squad!
  3. Do asteroids run out of fuel? I can imagine class A asteroid endlessly providing fuel could easily result in a ship that would be able to fly everywhere.
  4. I made an twin ion powered spacecraft that will hopefully be able to do asteroid rendezvous and Gilly landing missions.
  5. "You must spread some reputation around before giving it to KerrMü again" Absolutely fantastic work, just great! I've been experimenting with solids again in order to create a series of early-career economical boosters. The more I play with the rt-10's and bacc's the better these parts seem. They can do early crewed flights and interplanetary probes (with a liquid kick stage). Also if you cluster 7 bacc's you get a cheap and cheerful first stage for larger boosters, only needing a short tank Skipper stage to do the rest of the work of getting a payload out of the atmosphere.
  6. Are we stuck with SLS? While it's true that SLS is a political rocket (no adequately funded payloads or well defined missions), I can't help but feel that it doesn't have that much political sway compared to the shuttle. Spaceflight is so low down the list of political priorities, and the number of senators and congressmen that are notable spaceflight supporters is dwindling, that if Falcon Heavy ends up being a success, I don't see what future the SLS has. It still doesn't address the issue of payloads and missions, of course. To be honest, it's all a waste; unless a government is willing to put up the cash for a proper human spaceflight program, it shouldn't be attempted at all. We sure as hell aren't going anywhere if things continue with the status quo.
  7. I'm very happy with KSP too. What isn't in stock I get from mods, and when 1.0 comes out, I might not need even those (certainly fewer mods). I haven't finished trying everything yet, and even if I did it wouldn't matter because flying around in kerbal spaceships is fun anyway. Great, great game.
  8. I finished work on my Mk3 unmanned cargo hauler. It's my first non-cheaty Mk3 vehicle (before, I stacked wings for extra lift and used drop tanks - very naughty!).
  9. I'm boring. All my designs are tested several times in Sandbox before making a debut in my career. I'd fly on one of my ships
  10. I'll go through two or three saves per version, typically. I love the early stages of the game. I don't know about others, but I often find that late in my career I have too many spacecraft all over the place and the gameplay experience feels.. diluted. I've solved that with my current career by keeping my in space infrastructure to the vicinity of Kerbin/Mun, and have a single interplanetary explorer to handle the rest of the Kerbol System.
  11. Aww, so cool. Wish it was my bedroom!
  12. Doing pinpoint targeted landings without using a lot of fuel for corrections.
  13. Made my largest (so far) spaceplane, good for 6 crewmembers, station docking, and small satellites. Currently working on a Mk3 cargo drone, whicj is coming along nicely. The breakthrough came when I realized the mk3 tanks don't have to be full...
  14. I've been working on a very similar problem. I don't know if it's any help, but I've got a few design rules that I follow for spaceplanes: Designs that carry a lot of fuel but maintain a good thrust to weight ratio seem to be especially important, or just difficult to accomplish without looking unrealistic and/or looking like a lot of other spaceplanes that you see. 1xRam air intake and 2x radial intakes per engine - most of the acceleration occurs over 20km, and you'll need to stay airbreathing for as long as possible. Lots of lift!
  15. I maxed out the capabilities of my current spaceplane in terms of payload and crew capacity. I've got an interplanetary explorer coming back soon with four astronauts, and need a new shuttle that can take them all home from orbit. It's getting there, I've almost ironed out all the thrust vector, COM/COL issues...
  16. Just bug fixes and optimisation would be fine by me, except for one thing: Clouds!! I'm very confused by the lack of discussion about clouds. They are such a fundamental element to the look of planets with atmospheres, I would have added them in ages ago
  17. When I was low on funds I created a cheap rocket and named it Austerity Measures.
  18. Finally! My space centre is now fully upgraded, and I can do some real exploring. I've gotten around to testing and launching my deep space vehicle, the Explorator V! This is the core spacecraft in high Kerbin orbit, and I've got four propellant tanks on the way to dock with it. Once that's done, I'm planning an Asteroid>Ike>Duna shakedown cruise before I risk sending it to the edge of the Kerbol system.
  19. The way I've solved that is to actually make my mothership the lander: Leave the majority of your propellant tanks, Science lab and whatever else in orbit, and take the drive unit (2-4 LV-N's) with a lander-can, all your science instruments, a small rover etc, down to the surface.
  20. Does this mod make the game run at higher framerates? I'd love to turn the graphics up so that I can get shadows to work with a decent framerate on my laptop.
  21. Also tried this, and like everyone else, the lag is terrible - especially on my crummy laptop. However, I have at times had 3 planes parked in front of the SPH that are representative of the numerous subtypes I've made over the past few weeks. Maybe that's a way to go?
  22. I rescued a Kerbal from LKO, and performed my re-entry burn. As Re-entry progressed, I realised that I was flying just a little too high and fast to easily land at KSC, so I figured as soon as I had slowed down to about 400m/s I'd put the vehicle into a steep corkscrew dive and pull up just as I approached the runway threshold. The vehicle had hardly any fuel so was light and nimble compared to launch, it pulled up and smoothly touched down with its main gear and rotated the nose onto the runway, just like the Space Shuttle. Felt happy after that.
  23. Yeah I'm a fan of using a couple of solids to form really cheap launchers too. I generally use a BACC first stage, then an rt10, then a small liquid kick stage. If I need more payload, strapping two BACC's to the centre one, and having them fire first works well and is still dirt cheap. Solids win! I've been doing some small missions in Kerbin's SOI, as well as planning a major expedition to Gilly, as I've got a stack of contracts lined up there. I've also installed chatterer, and I love it! It really adds to the immersion of the game.
