First and foremost. KSP is a game. And guess what? Traditional fairing separation is BORING compared to the confetti. So in the remote chance that you can't make traditional fairings. Just install the mod. It is well maintained. (And please don't bellyache about ram. If that small a mod is what breaks the camels back. Your KSP is likely already crashing from the slightest leak) SQUAD needs to focus on bug fixing whatever the experimental team finds. So they can get 1.0 out and (hopefully) start porting to Unity 5 for 1.1 not redesign the fairing system because people can't stand anything else being game vs realistic. Why are you separating in orbit? Separation happens when the drag is no longer a significant factor at altitude. Not in orbit where they are nothing but wasted mass.

Converting the iss into a spaceship to mars
AbhChallenger replied to deathbane's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I doubt Zarya could handle anything outside of LEO considering it's age. -
I am 100 percent against a FAR requirement. #1 Stockalike means the mod should be able to work in Stock without requiring any other addons. #2 Not everyone wants to use FAR.

This was a very VERY poorly planned Joke.
-
I think again it is important to note the difficulty of moving to Unity 5. And why that means an entire version (In my opinion 1.1) needs to be dedicated to it. We need to be cautious in saying it is "okay" to push planned features of 1.0 to 1.1 as opposed to saying just delay 1.0 There is very little that can be done performance wise with Unity 4.
-
As I have said Unity 5 should be the project for 1.1 not 1.0 What I am saying is that you should finish what you had planned for 1.0 to not make the already hard task of moving to Unity 5 harder by trying to play catchup.
-
Remember that 1.0 will be the version reviewers get their hands on. It really does need all the stuff they had originally announced for it. Even if it means it will take another month or two for it to happen. 1.1 REallllllllllllly needs to be about Unity 5. Personally I doubt another Unity game needed to switch to 5 as badly as KSP. If that is the plan do you want them to have the distraction of trying to play feature catchup at the same time?
-
1.1 Should be mostly reserved for making use of Unity 5 in my opinion. And possibly the return of the 64 bit client if Unity 5 permits it. For 1.0 balance and the aero overhaul is a must. You don't want to have to do that at the same time as the complicated process of switching to the newer engine. Then again that is IF Unity 5 is ready for KSP. Is it not ready?
-
Because it is not certified for long term habitation. It is not going to suddenly pop and depressurize the station. But there is the remote possibility that it could have other unforeseen issues. Such as material breaking down and entering the atmosphere. Outgassing etc.. Normally an experiment would be a free flying experiment attached to a service module. However, the station is being used for what the billions of dollars that went into it were meant for. A host for an experiment. Long story short. It does not require crew wasting time interacting with it to prove it is a worthy technology for future stations and bases.
-
We will have to see what Unity 5 can do performance wise. Don't want only folks with monster computers to be able to anything worthwhile with the rover.

One of the requests I have for a future version of KSP is more of a reason to use Rovers. No instant crew report for science or mission objective but have to do reports from a variety of spots in the local area. That would of course give those who want to go the Soviet route a reason to use the N1 to preland a base with rover.

Personally I like the idea of a 2 Kerbal LK. In my opinion opens the door to the idea of the LK being used as a Taxi to a 1 module base landed by an N1 beforehand. Maybe even you could imagine a soviet equivalent of the Lunar Rover for such a base.

I want to wait until KSP has gone Unity 5 and the 64 bit client is stable first.

It isn't easy mode fuel. Even if it is easier to use than other resource mods it still requires planning to do right. It just encourages a different style of play for players than "MOAR BOOSTERS MOAR FUELZ!!11"

Unity 5 [Is now available]
AbhChallenger replied to NoMrBond's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
TBH I figure that is their plan as well. It is just that I understand that it is going to be difficult for them to market 1.1 being focused on Unity 5 rather than something flashy like resources, aerodyamics, or asteroids. And it is going to suck to wait for it as it will likely take quite a long time to make the switch proper. It is that I encourage them to endure that to make the switch to Unity 5 as soon as it is reasonable to do so. -
Should Squad be willing to implement SpaceX like parts with the SpaceX logo and names if given the chance? My opinion is yes. However, That depends on what SpaceX wants to do. KSP is a for profit game so it is not as easy as Elon tweeting "yes!" There would have to be a agreement for the right to use the IP. There is also the fact that KSP gives you no real reason to use a space station right now. Removing most of the need to use a Dragon capsule in the first place. Also you have to think about balance issues. SpaceX exists to provide a cheaper alternative to big government rockets. Yet if you make them cheaper to use in KSP. They can break the balance of the game. Then you have technical problems. Like manned pods not being able to have built in RCS yet. The draco and superdracos are not simple bolt on parts. They are built into the design and leaving them out would mess up the entire design.

Unity 5 [Is now available]
AbhChallenger replied to NoMrBond's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
A few things I would like to clarify for this opinion. #1 I am NOT talking about hotfix, bugfixes, or balance issues that would require SQUAD to push an urgent update prior to their plans. (Such as 1.0.1 etc…) I am speaking about a version that gets its own name. #2 This opinion is IF and I mean IF the KSP development team has determined that Unity 5 after KSP 1.0 is in a state that would allow them to implement such a plan. I am NOT trying to say they should push KSP to Unity 5 just to say “We are Unity 5 now! YAY!!11†Now again IF this is the case. My opinion on thinking about the subject that indeed a jump to Unity 5 warrants a version focus soon after 1.0 launches. My opinion is based on three potential benefits and the multiplayer path. #1 The upgraded software PhysX and the possibility that it will allow a massive improvement in CPU use allowing players on lower end machines to build rockets with additional parts. And for those who have higher end machines to have less of a CPU wall of performance. #2 Unity 5 treating 64 bit as more than afterthought. (Again I have NO repeat NO evidence that Unity has actually fixed the problems preventing a proper KSP 64 bit. Only squad can determine if this is a possible benefit worthy of focus) And removing this plague of the 32 bit barrier. #3 The benefits Unity 5 can bring for modders. #4 The need to get used to Unity 5 as soon as reasonable to get back on the path towards multiplayer KSP. As has been said by others many times. The jump to Unity 5 will not be an easy path. And that is assuming that after 1.0 Unity 5 is in a stable condition to make it possible. However, I think it is more important than many other potential focus paths KSP can take for 1.1 or 1.2. To close I do not claim that Unity 5 is a cureall for the issues KSP currently suffers from. Just that it should be prioritized as soon as it is reasonable to do so. -
Taking the "Kerbal way" a little too far in the real world.

[1.4] SpaceY Heavy-Lifter Parts Pack v1.17.1 (2018-04-02)
AbhChallenger replied to NecroBones's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I typically wait atleast a week before starting a new save with the new version in order to give modders a decent chance to update their works. So it's all good. And gives you lots of time for mah 10m stuffz
