Much appreciated. Now that BARIS is done, I'm splitting my time between concept design and planning of Pathfinder's Project Sandcastle, and resuming work on DSEV's Odyssey Two release. For a refresher, I was working on this: Needs more texture work like detailing around the ladders, but this is essentially a 2.5m version of the Mark One Habitat. These new station parts are an updated version of this: Which is basically being retired as its successor is rolled into DSEV. Long-time forum users will recognize MCM from a few years ago, and it led to Pathfinder. I'm also working on the fuel tank revamp in the next release...

Latest Release GitHub repo RTFM! The game that inspired the mod. BARIS is highly customizable to suit your play style. Be sure to read up on what you can do before voicing concerns. “The deorbit motor’s fuel tank just sprung a leak,” Janchell said. Both she and Valentina had been crewing MOLE-2 for the past 78 days. The leaking tank simply added to the collection of failures plaguing the ailing station that had nearly exceeded its design life twice over. “Between that, the Brumby’s dead RCS, and a busted gyro, not to mention the cargo craft’s leaking monopropellant tank and busted comms, I think it’s time to call it.” “Looks like we’re not going to beat Jeb and Bob’s orbital record,” Valentina lamented. “Agreed,” Janchell said, “but look at all the science we’ve gathered! So much data to analyze when we get home.” “I think if we transfer fuel to the cargo ship’s tanks, we can store it there until our orbit lines up with the space center. Then transfer fuel back in and use it.” “No objections here, boss,” Janchell agreed. Valentina floated up to the Brumby re-entry capsule and powered it up. “Flight, MOLE-2,” Valentina radioed. “Time to come home. Station is falling apart. We’ll aim for the space center but no promises, a lot is breaking down up here.” “We copy, MOLE,” Gene radioed back, “we’ll see you in a few hours.” Wish you had a reason to replace your old space stations? Have you mastered launches so well that you need a new challenge? Want a monkey wrench thrown into your game play every now and then? Then BARIS is for you! Design Goals Building A Rocket Isn't Simple (BARIS) is designed to add more challenge to the game by making part functionality break- engines can fail, tanks can leak, and so on. The early game can be rough just like early spaceflight was in our world. The intent is for players to take the time to build up the part quality and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), either through flight experience, the Test Bench, or both. Don't expect to be able to fly off into interplanetary space at the start; that's something you have to build up to. But the more times you launch or test, the more reliable your parts will become. Kermanned spacecraft have the advantage over unkermanned probes and can effect repairs. Yes, the real-world has very high reliability ratings for space probes, but in KSP, since we use the same parts for both kermanned and unkermanned vehicles, a very high reliability will make the game boring. Thus, it's best to design redundancy in your probes and deactivate any part not in use- they'll last longer that way. For long journeys, put your vehicles into hibernation mode- turn off engines, RCS, SAS, drills, any ISRU converters, lock your fuel tank resourcess, and so on. This is similar to how Soyuz spacecraft hibernate to extend their service life after reaching the ISS. Deactivated parts won't break, but their MTBF ratings still degrade, albeit at a much slower pace. Finally, BARIS's default settings might not appeal to everyone, but you can change settings to suit your own play styles, either through the Difficulty settings, the Constants file, or both. Be sure to check both places for customizing BARIS before discussing your challenges on the forums. BARIS is compatible with Kerbal Construction Time and Kerbal Alarm Clock. Recommended Mods It's Too Hard! You have a number of options to make things easier on your vessels: Lower the Difficulty Modifier. Disable the option for part types to fail for parts that you think are too mission critical to fail. Lower the number of Reliability checks per day. Don't allow parts to explode during launch failures or during post-launch activities. Lower the number of flights it takes to gain flight experience. Conduct static fire tests and/or use the Test Bench to gain flight experience. Disable the option for parts to wear out. Disable the option for launch failures. Disable the need for skilled repair kerbals, the need for Equipment, and/or the need for an EVA to conduct repairs. Edit the values in the Constants.cfg file and/or the MM_BARIS.cfg file. The FusionPellets resource is listed under //****************************** //* SECTION 3 KSPI-E Curated //****************************** So I'm guessing @FreeThinker, but as it is a community resource definition file, I can't be certain. FreeThinker, can you shed some light on this?
-
During my cleanup efforts for my latest mod release, I noticed that KSP was giving me a duplicate resource definition error for FusionPellets. I finally tracked the issue down to CRP. Apparently, FusionPellets was added to CommonResources.cfg, right after ExoticMatter. I had no idea this had been done. FusionPellets is a resource I created for DSEV nearly three years ago. Why was this resource added? If there are other mods using it besides NFT (we have a mutual agreement on how it's defined), I wasn't consulted. I'm not opposed to having FusionPellets added to CRP- and suggested it two years ago- but I'd like to make sure I'm the curator of the resource that I've had in my mods for about three years now.

DSEV 2.2 is now available: 2.2 BARIS This release introduces BARIS, a new game mechanic that replaces the stock heat mechanic on the mod's converters. You can think of BARIS (the name is a nod to Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space) as a highly customizable Dangit-lite. Don't want your drills or converters to break? Don't want the hassle of parts wearing out? Do you prefer not to send Equipment up to repair your parts, or to requrire specific skills to repair them? No problem! All that and more are options. As always, It's Your Game, Your Choice. BARIS IS OFF BY DEFAULT! You'll have to opt-in via the Settings->Difficulty->BARIS tab. With BARIS, your parts now have wear and tear, which is indicated by the part's Quality rating. They're unlikely to break during their normal design life, but they can start to break down after you exceed their design life. If you perform maintenance on them, you can reduce the chance that they'll break. A broken drill or base part won't function, which can be either annoying or life threatening depending upon the mods you have installed. Once you fix the part, it will continue to function, but its design life will be reduced- unless you disable that option. New Parts - LSC-30 Air Intake: This is a resized 2.5m version of the stock Shock Cone. - RBCC-4 "Scimitar" Engine: This is a resized 2.5m version of the stock R.A.P.I.E.R.

MOLE 1.8 is now available: 1.8 BARIS: Building A Rocket Isn't Simple When I began working on M.O.L.E. in late 2014, I had the idea that your early space stations would wear out and require maintenance and/or replacement. I've finally realized that vision with BARIS. You can think of BARIS (the name is a nod to Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space) as a highly customizable Dangit-lite combined with vessel construction and event cards. [Min KSP: 1.12.2] Pathfinder - Space Camping & Geoscience
Angelo Kerman replied to Angelo Kerman's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Pathfinder 1.11 is now available: This release replaces the drill heat mechanic with BARIS: Building A Rocket Isn't Simple. You can think of BARIS (the name is a nod to an old video game) as a highly customizable Dangit-lite. Don't want your drills or converters to break? Don't want the hassle of parts wearing out? Do you prefer not to send Equipment up to repair your parts, or to require specific skills to repair them? No problem! All that and more are options. As always, It's Your Game, Your Choice. Once you fix the part, it will continue to function, but its design life will be reduced. Bug Fixes & Enhancements - Fixed missing textures. - Fixed issue with geology lab not transmitting bonus science. - Resource distribution should run a bit more smoothly now. - Simplified Mode's ISRU now includes a drill. - Fixed issues with template reconfiguring when no life support mod is installed.- 3,523 replies

Space Station & Planetary Habitation Mods

Or you could just turn on Pristine Mode and have pretty parts to look at. Pathfinder has the ability to simplify the new game mechanics or remove them entirely. -

Angelo Kerman replied to Angelo Kerman's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
@panarchist Looks great! Thanks for making those. I will link the to the OP once I'm at my pc. @Miuramir Your other option is to make copies of the config files for the flight deck and airship hull parts and set rescaleFactor to 2 or more. That will give you 20m hulls- and really clutter your part catalog. The TweakScale method is the way to go though. -
Congrats! Nice tomsee that the wing flies again.

While I do appreciate the sentiment, it isn't necessary. 3.75m tanks are on my list for DSEV. I've been stuck on BARIS for the past couple of months and it totally derailed DSEV. But now that is done I can do more DSEV things...

[Min KSP: 1.12.2] Pathfinder - Space Camping & Geoscience
Angelo Kerman replied to Angelo Kerman's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
More of a printer that ideally uses EPL, but doesn't need kerbals and is restricted to vessels made of konkrete parts. Inspiration: You know me, I think EXtraplanetaryLaunchpads is fabulous and hope to adapt it to support Sandcastle. If it can't be done or is too impractical, I'll have a custom printer but I don't like that route.- 3,523 replies

[Min KSP: 1.12.2] Pathfinder - Space Camping & Geoscience
Angelo Kerman replied to Angelo Kerman's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
So, yeah, imagine this: as modular building blocks, but also with specialized parts like this: and of course the Konkrete tinted to match the planet the building was built on. That's the start of Project Sandcastle. I have more concept work to do, but I think I've finally got the direction figured out. And yes, Sandcastle is inspired by Firma, which pioneered the building block technique (and I'm making stuff to be compatible with it).- 3,523 replies
