[Min KSP: 1.12.2] Pathfinder - Space Camping & Geoscience
Angelo Kerman replied to Angelo Kerman's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Not at present, no. There are three difficulty levels for life support: none, Snacks, and TAC-LS. If there's a lot of demand for it then I'll consider adding it in, but Snacks covers the mid-range difficulty, and TAC-LS provides the challenging difficulty. Also, please remember that this is beta, there are bound to be bugs. I do plan on adding more stuff to the base, camping gear, and Buffalo, including IVAs for the base modules.- 3,523 replies

Get the latest here. Mirror: SpaceDock Pathfinder Wiki Source (Pathfinder), Source (WildBlueTools) BARIS Wiki CKAN? Why not look and see? After planting the flag, taking the group photo op and getting a good night's rest, Bill got to the real work of the Duna One Expedition's post-landing ops: building the Pathfinder base. Grabbing a powered screwdriver and a Saddle from the Buckboard 2000, Bill detached the Ponderosa from the cargo lander and bolted the Saddle into the surveyed ground. He then attached the Ponderosa module to the Saddle. "Get the Doc next," Bob encouraged Bill. As the engineer walked over to the Buckboard, Val and Jeb hooked up the Saddle to the cargo lander's equipment storage tank. Bill supervised the Ponderosa's assembly, while Bob outfitted the module as a Pathfinder geology lab. Once the engineer attached the Doc Science Lab to the back of the Ponderosa, Bob immediately got to work again. "Uh oh," Val said. "The Sombrero didn't survive the drop. The solar panels are broken. Can you fix it, Bill?" Bill looked at the solar array and shook his head. "No, but I can rig up a generator from one of the Buckboards, and use the Gold Diggers to dig up some ore." "But, I need those drills to take core samples," Bob protested. "Without those core samples we can't tweak production efficiency!" "Don't worry," Bill responded, "we can convert the spare Casa into a workshop and print some more using the material kits in the lander." "Ok, let's get that done after we set up the Telegraph. We need more relays back to Kerbin." An engineer's work is never done, Bill thought to himself... See The Sights You've done your flags and footprints, now comes the time to do some geology to find the best place to plunk down your more permanent base. Establish a basecamp, stay awhile, and survey the land to see if you can find a better concentration of resources (or perhaps a worse concentration, maybe those orbital scans weren't accurate). If you've found the right spot, then it's time to bring in the bigger stuff. If not, then it's time to pack up your Buffalo Modular Space Exploration Vehicle and look elsewhere. Space Camping Pathfinders have KIS/KAS friendly, portable equipment to go “space camping" with. Just convert a few Buckboard or Conestoga multipurpose containers into storage units, pack your gear, and head out. Temporary Bases Want to build a sprawling temporary base? Pathfinder offers a number of different parts for temporary base building, with optional support for mods like OSE Workshop, Extraplanetary Launchpads, TAC Life Support, Snacks, USI-LS, kOS, and more. Travel in Style Pathfinders are always on the go, and you can travel in style with the Buffalo Modular Space Exploration Vehicle (MSEV), based on NASA's real-world MMSEV. Whether driving or making sub-orbital hops, the Buffalo has you covered. As if that's not enough, you also have a personal flying wing known as the JetWing, and the Outback EVA Support System, which can hold a small amount of a lot of different resources. Your Game, Your Choice Don't like how the mod is configured? Simply press <mod key, which defaults to Alt on Windows> and P simultaneously to bring up the Pathfinder Settings window. It's not cheating if the default configuration for the mod simply doesn't match your play style. Additionally, Pathfinder is easily customizable using ModuleManager patches. Want to create a new template? Here's a wiki page on how. Thanks again for allowing me to use the first page of your graphic novels! Here's what it looks like inside the cab: I don't yet know how to make the screen clickable, but once I do, it will fire up a browser and go to the first page on this thread.

@Kuzzter: Funny you should mention the fifth seat. While the Mk3 cockpit is rated for 4 kerbals, the internal model actually has spots for six: Also, with your permission, I'd like to include the first page of Eve: Order Zero and Duna, Ore Bust as images on a tablet for an internal view I'm creating for the Buffalo Crew Hab: If I can make it work, I will wire up a prop that takes you to their respective threads when you click on the tablet pc prop.

[DEVTHREAD] Deep Space Exploration Vessels
Angelo Kerman replied to Angelo Kerman's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Not yet. This week I learned how to create IVAs. Now that I do know how, I can start making IVA views for the modules. At least they do have placeholder IVA views for the time being. -

Oh yeah, there will be something that'll work. -

Yup! The Buffalo MSEV is based upon NASA's MMSEV, and while the initial configuration is a rover, you can easily add RCS thrusters to it and with some Infernal Robotics (with zoidinfuser's rework), you will have an asteroid explorer. I threw this together real quick but I don't have IR installed on this PC. It gives you an idea of what you can do with Pathfinder's Buffalo as an in-space MSEV: I do not see a vertically mounted DAV being feasible in a 3.75m support frame, but maybe one that is horizontally mounted with some...rather kerbal methodologies to launch it into the air... -

Neat document! I have read some of it, I like how the Solar Electric Propulsion Vehicle Concept specifies an in-space MMSEV... I have been planning for the Buffalo to have a similar role. -
[DEVTHREAD]Pathfinder - Space Camping & Geoscience
Angelo Kerman replied to Angelo Kerman's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Great question. In terms of increasingly difficult gameplay, no life support (the default, life support is entirely optional) is the easiest, followed by Snacks, followed by TAC-LS. The difficulty here revolves around the resources that you keep track of, which is reflected by the mod you have installed. Pathfinder will adjust to all three situations; the greenhouse will consume different resources to produce Food than it does for Snacks, but it's purely decorative when you have no life support installed. With both Snacks and TAC-LS, the greenhouse will produce Food/Snacks after 90 days, with time reduced if you have a skilled scientist in the module. With Snacks, you can produce Snacks from Ore in the Doc Commercial Science Lab, which is exactly how Snacks itself works, but it's (hopefully) cheaper to use the greenhouse. With TAC-LS, the Watney Chemistry Lab can split water to produce Oxygen. The Pigpen can clean your WasteWater and turn Waste into Organics for the greenhouse, while the greenhouse consumes CarbonDioxide as it grows Food. The system is not 100% closed loop with either Snacks or TAC-LS; you'll need to drill for resources to get the inputs you need, but you'll have no dependencies on Kerbin other than the kerbals that provide efficiency bonuses and who set everything up. Given the three difficulty levels mentioned above for life support, I have no plans to add in USI-LS at this time. -

Releasing a Ponderosa from the muncrete slab is not something I considered and not recommended if you have other parts attached to the habitat. What I may do instead is remove the KISModulePartMount and simply require Engineers to attach everything. Or I can find a way to hide the Release button so you don't accidentally hit it. If you deflate the modules then you will get a good percentage of your RocketParts back. -

I'll be looking into this issue today. Not sure why it isn't working.. Meanwhile, I did a couple of tests this morning: All I need is a basic IVA for the crew cab, and it's good to go. - - - Updated - - - Ok, I've just verified that the drill switcher is working properly. Please make sure to download the latest version of Pathfinder from GitHub. If you got Pathfinder from CKAN, well, apparently there are a lot of install issues with CKAN and I don't recommend it use. You should also see MM_DrillSwitcher.cfg in your installation directory. If you are in career mode, you also need to unlock specializedConstruction before you can change what the drill extracts. -

Getting real close to a pre-release. Got the stock IVA done: I think the Buffalo has just about all it needs for the basic rover configuration. Other parts are planned, this is just the bare minimum. I also think it needs a service tunnel in between the modules, but that's not critical for the initial release. -

I don't think there will be enough room in the 3.75m frame to handle a vertically mounted ascent vehicle, but I have some ideas that fit KSP's sometimes zany approach to things... -

I recall seeing that the Copernicus has some kind of landing frame. The saddle trusses will be modular enough to serve as the landing frame; you'll have landing legs, landing jets, a cargo ramp, and the like. The stock payload shrouds will serve to cover the frame. -

Yup! It will become the Homestead module. And the beauty of it is that the Homestead module will be useful for the Nautilus. -

HAHAHA! Love it! Here is an album showcasing the Buffalo Modular Space Exploration Vehicle (MSEV) It is based upon NASA's real-world MMSEV, but styled for KSP. Just like the MMSEV, the Buffalo is more than a rover. -

There should be a context-menu button that brings up the drill configuration menu. I know it works for the Gold Digger, and there should be a module manager patch for the stock drill. It is called MM_DrillSwitcher.cfg. I'll give it a try later this weekend to verify that it is indeed adding the patch to the stock drill-o-matic. -

Angelo Kerman replied to Angelo Kerman's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Hi Davidy, I've been busy with Pathfinder, and waiting on KSP 1.1, so I haven't had much time for Copernicus. I've worked on it indirectly in a way; in the NASA reference mission, Copernicus deploys a rover, and I am specifically designing the Buffalo MSEV's rover configuration with Copernicus in mind. As a rover, the Buffalo will fit inside the Copernicus's cargo frame. I've also been doing some design work on how Copernicus fits in the KSP design and use aesthetics. I can't give you any time frames but soon Pathfinder will be in a good place before the next major update, and then I can turn my attention back to DSEV. -

[DEVTHREAD]Pathfinder - Space Camping & Geoscience
Angelo Kerman replied to Angelo Kerman's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
thanks! The pictures are a bit out of date now, as I have moved the life support monitors to the doors (heh) and MFDs took their place. I will also be moving the nav buttons and making the center of the dash into an alarms panel. Just like NASA's MMSEV, the Buffalo is more than a rover. That is just the initial configuration. Once I get the parts done, you can configure it as a cargo hauling spaceship and as a munar lander, just to name a couple. Also, you will have a stock only cockpit configuration for those times when ASET and RPM are not installed. -

Great questions. I'm not familiar with RemtoteTech but if you come up with a configuration that works, I'll be happy to add it to the mod and credit your work. Also, I will look at SCANSat integration. I'd have to figure out how to set it up so that you can do continual resource monitoring. Right now, you just run the stock scan and that opens up continual resource monitoring. I'm not sure how I'd integrate that with SCANSat, but I'll give it some thought. Thanks for the idea. Meanwhile, I've been busy laying out the flight controls for the Buffalo's IVA. I need to rework the center of the dashboard, and I'm leaving space on the center console for communications gear. Also, I'll likely move the life support monitor to the panels behind the kerbals (where the air system is). Not bad for my very first IVA! In the home stretch now, I have to figure out the stock control layout for when you don't have RPM, ASET Props Pack, and ASET Avionics Pack (all highly recommended) installed.
