  1. On an unrelated note, I found some trajectory software on the Orbiter Hanger Mods website, and I tried to do the Phobos trajectory, I got his: It flybys the Moon, goes all the way past the orbit of freaking Saturn, flybys Earth again and then gets to Mars. Does anyone know any more sane and not stupid trajectory planning software?
  2. oarum, I think that CubeSat astronomy is not feasible for our first mission, but maybe a later mission. And, great news, K^2 is not dead! He replied to the message I sent, and he said this:
  3. Yeah NFUN, I still haven't got a reply from the message I sent him.
  4. I'm in Indianapolis. (Technically a tiny bit North of Indianapolis, but close enough) EDIT: I quickly made this little map, you can put where you roughly live and put it up for others to edit:
  5. So, according to you, metaphor, pretty much nothing would happen to us? But in Universe Sandbox, screwed up Earth's orbit pretty badly and made Mercury eject itself from the solar system! And that was only with 13 times mass, not 80! So you may have screwed up on your maths somewhere, just saying. Also, you say you couldn't see the Jupiter-Star in the sky or night sky any more you could see it now? I really doubt that.
  6. Okay, I just tried the first scenario in Universe Sandbox (Not Universe Sandbox 2). This is the result after a little over 100 years. Earth's orbit now has a perisol of Venus's orbit and an aposol of Mar's orbit. This doesn't end well for Humans, as on the perisol the average global temperature is 40.1C/104F. Oh, and Mercury ejected itself from the Solar System.
  7. As the title says above, what would happen if Jupiter or Saturn suddenly gained enough mass to become a star? There's 2 (Or arguably 4) scenarios I can think of: 1. Jupiter or Saturn gains enough mass to become a brown dwarf. (Jupiter's mass would have to be multiplied by 13) 2. Jupiter or Saturn gains enough mass to actually have fusion and become an actual star. (Jupiter's mass would have to be multiplied by 70 - 80) So, what would happen in these 2 scenarios? And how screwed would we be if this happened?
  8. For a Manned Mun mission? Let's see here... 1.) A lot like the first stage of the Saturn V, it gets me off the ground into the upper atmosphere. 2.) Gets me from the upper atmosphere into a 75 - 80 Km orbit, and thus like the first 10-50 M/s of the TMI. 3.) Does the TMI, Munar Orbit Insertion, landing, take off into Mun orbit, TKI and landing back at Kerbin. So 3 stages.
  9. Why do we need to start a new thread? I think that this one thread is fine for this early stage in development.
  10. Sorry to be on an a more unrelated note, but I just sent K^2 a message asking him why he hasn't posted in 2 weeks.
  11. Dish size? I THINK a little less then 10 or 9 Cm in diameter.
  12. The ISV Pegasus Challenge - Recreate Space Odyssey: Voyage To The Planets Q: What in the world is "Space Odyssey: Voyage To The Planets"? A: It was a "Mockumentary" of the fictional interplanetary voyage of the International Space Vehicle (ISV) Pegasus. Q: Okay, so what do I do exactly? A: Try to recreate the voyage of the ISV Pegasus as accurately as you like, though there is some balance between actual feasibility and difficulty in this. (For example, you can choose to only have one refueling tank instead of two. Q: So what are the rules? A: Right below, but one more question first. Q: *Insert thing from Space Odyssey: Voyage To The Planets here* is impossible or extremely difficult to do in KSP! A: Don't worry, I've either left those out or are just there for people who are obsessed with getting all the points. RULES: Absolute Minimum: The absolute minimum you can do to be in the leader boards of this is to have a spacecraft like the ISV Pegasus which sends a lander down to these 4 planets or moons in KSP: Duna, Vall, Laythe, and Eeloo. One spacecraft has to bring these landers to the planets, and can not return to Kerbin until they have sent landers to those 4 planets or moons mentioned. Mods: All mods are allowed, except cheat mods, like HyperEdit. (Except for the few examples below) You will get points for doing it with certain difficulty enhancing mods, mentioned in the scoring/point system below. How to submit your entry: You must put an Imgur Album or a video in your submission, and if your doing images, these are what you must put: Your spacecraft in Kerbin orbit. Your spacecraft during or after your trans injection to your next planetary target. Any of the tasks in the scoring/point system that are optional must have pictures them being performed, like the solar panel removal after in the "Kasteroid belt". Post landing, de-orbit, landing, and landed images of any of the lander landings. And if there is, EVAs, take off, orbit insertion, rendezvous with the spacecraft, and docking. Docking and refueling with fuel tanks, if there are any. And finally, back in Kerbin orbit, you don't have to do images of them actually going back to the surface of Kerbin. SCORING/POINT SYSTEM: Absolute Minimum entries will get 0 points. 10 points per crew member you take with you to the planets, capping at 6 crew member at 60 points (+10 per crew member, cap 6 crew at 60 points) Have at least 1 lander be manned and return to the spacecraft (+20 points) Have the Duna and Laythe landings be manned and return to the spacecraft. (+50 points) Have all landings be manned and return to the spacecraft (+100 points) Remove the solar panels (If your spacecraft has them) when you pass the orbit of Dres while going to Jool (Or Eeloo) (+5 points) Have there be 3 or higher refueling tanks instead of 2 or fewer (-40 points) (You haft to put those there yourself, or you can HyperEdit them there for a 20 point penalty) Have there be 2 refueling tanks (+5 points) Have there be only 1 refueling tanks (+30 points) Have there be no refueling tanks (+70 points) Bring a 1-way unmanned Eve lander (+15 points) Bring a manned Eve lander that can return to the spacecraft from the surface of Eve (+175 points) Only aerocapture at Jool (+20 points) Don't aerocapture or aerobrake at any of the planets/moons (+35 points) HyperEdit a E class asteroid to have a apoapsis higher than Eeloo's orbit and a periapsis lower than Moho's orbit, and then land on it manned and return to Pegasus, to simulate the YanoMoore landing (+60 points) And instead of HyperEditing that asteroid/comet, put it there manually (+200 points) If there are any refueling tanks, have them either be in orbit around Duna or Laythe, or both if you have 2 (+5 points) Try to do the solar flyby by burning for a Kerbolar periapsis that counts as "Low Kerbol/Sun Orbit", and then burn for orbit that will somehow intercept Jool or Eeloo. Only for people will do anything to get the max points possible (+400 points) LEADERBOARD: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Feel free to give me ideas to add to the point system, and any adjustments I could make to it. Now, go on a voyage to the planets!
  13. Unfortunately your correct. And like I've said before, K^2 hasn't posted since October 4th, and that wasn't even in this thread. It also says he hasn't been online since October 11th.
  14. Sorry, just saying that It could be delayed.
  15. But, maybe the conditions on launch are not good for a Trans-Lunar Injection.
  16. Also, the SLS mission could be delayed until November 2018.
  17. I don't remember exactly, but I found this download for 0.10 after I watched this Evening's With Sips Yogscast video, which is how I found KSP. I think at the time the latest version was like 0.12 or 0.13.
  18. My idea to do a manned mission to Mars in RSS, but I never even started because I am lazy and I haven't actually landed anything on it yet. (I tried to once, but it only had a parachute, no propulsion, so it just crashed into the Martian desert)
  19. I just noticed something, K^2 hasn't been online since October 11th. And hasn't posted since October 4th.
  20. Another objective I can think of: To study the effects of Lunar and Martian gravity on moss.
  21. Sky_walker, you seem to have forgotten that it will spin to generate artificial sub-gravity.
  22. I got 3.125, lower than I thought I would get. Well, the only non-Kerbin SOI body I've returned from is Duna, but I did that in 0.23.5 career.
