perhaps: .make a rocket with some surface exposed on to (perhaps a ring of Boosters?). connect the decoupler on top. attach to that the sattelite. or perhaps, alter the staging sequence.
I mean in terms of construction. But i get what you say. As the shuttle is a 'command module', perhaps it would be good if we could modify command modules for thrust?
ok, here it is. Note I made a mistake in my last post. There aer three stack decouplers between stages 3 and 4, not two sets of three radial decouplers. Pardon the unoriginal name, this is Moonraker 3. you have solar cells?
I could do it with my design, but I wonder what the best time is to fire up the escape stages from Kerbin orbit. probably several orbits with short bursts at the periapsis.
simple, get to escape velocity, go somewhere far out and stop, so that you have a velocity of zero. easy? but there is a twist. Go to 10000X time warp and still be there at 0ms!
I take it you can get back to Kerbin. I cant (yet, I think changing my method of flight could help). BTW, is it best to come in straight down? or to be coming in at a shallow angle. The latter could save fuel in decelleration.
I once had this happen, I went to the moon (as you do), but I went in a bit fast, so I was sent out again into Kerbin orbit. Thankfully It rendesvouzed with the moon again. Shame I was out of fuel.
Now we see the true might of the Kerbal Space Program! Only we dare to use a countadown to launch a rocket to the moon that is held together only by... ...Duct tape. ;D
I have a basic design that works. stage 0: -mk1pod -2RCS tanks -2liquid tanks -1Liquid engine (either) -8RCS rockets -DECOUPLER- Stage 1: -Advanced SAS module -Tri coupler (thank you!) -4 liquid tanks (12 in total) -8 fins (that can move) on SAS Module -3 Liquid engines (place in lowest stage in stage firing sequence) -RADIAL DECOUPLER- Stage 2: -3 Solid boosters (on decouplers) -3 solid boosters (on other boosters) On the centre stacks place three radial decouplers Stage 3: -3 solid Boosters Place 1 stack decoupler on each. Stage 4: -3 Tri couplers -3 boosters on each tri coupler Put the 3 engines (liquid) here in the firing sequence. Add a ton of struts. And this actually worked. If you are patient you will fire at the right time (periapsis apporach) to extend the orbit and get there with a ton of fuel. If you just go for it (orbital path but get out at first chance), then the RCS will land you on the moon. Just.
A challenge which I do not even know is possible, get into an orbit that takes you to the mun and back. (bonus for many repeats), (double bonus for an orbit without extra burns) NB: you cant shot past the moon and return, it must be a figure 8 like orbit. Is this possible?
Hello, I\'ve been playing KSP a few weeks and find it awesome! I don\'t know the maths as yet but I can learn it, so will get there soon. Anyway howdydo!
