*Scratches head* Uhhhhhhhhh... What is this?

I never look at the star rating. Too often, good threads have one star, and bad ones get 5 stars. If I approve/disapprove of a thread, I just post my thoughts in it. Just like this.

Eighth grade science: man, that teacher had no idea what she was talking about. According to her, sound travels slower in water than in air, the moon's dark side is always dark while one side simultaneously always faces earth, etc. Luckily, she was willing to listen when I tried to say that she was wrong. Still, though, she obviously only knew what her lesson plans told her about science and not much else.

Representing earth; what should we give aliens if they show up?
Vaporo replied to Norpo's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Actually, them getting our diseases is pretty unlikely. Earth biology would probably completely incompatible with theirs because of differences in proteins and such. For the same reason, our food would probably be completely indigestible or, in the worst case scenario, massively toxic to them. Sharing food would not be a good idea. -
Representing earth; what should we give aliens if they show up?
Vaporo replied to Norpo's topic in Science & Spaceflight
First, transmit the entirety of Spaceballs . If we can transmit anything, I'd probably go with a set of encyclopedias. They would contain most of what the aliens might want to know about us, and if they want more they can make specific requests. Perhaps a few works of realistic fiction or some memoirs, if they want to know what it's actually like to be one of us. Don't want to confuse them by sending The Lord of the Rings first. I guess that if we can transmit anything, transmit whatever we can. Seriously, though, Spaceballs first. -
That is the exact the same story behind my handwriting! In first and second grade, my handwriting could literally have been put in a textbook to show people what letters are supposed to look like. The problem was that it just took me forever to write anything. Then, in third grade, the tests got longer and harder and I had to speed up my handwriting to compensate. So it got really, really bad. It's gotten better since then, but it's still horrible.

This an example of an average piece of my handwriting: Seriously, it's pretty bad.

Banned because I haven't banned something in a while.

*another picture is taken of same spot, and "polar bear" is still there.* "Well, it's obviously hibernating, you see. Given the harshness of the martian weather, I'm not surprised that martian bears can enter such an advanced state of hibernation." *Another picture taken from a different angle. Reveals "polar bear" to be a generic rock formation.* Either A. "See! It's gone! It must have woken up and walked away!" B. "NASA just photoshopped the images. They don't want us to know the truth." The truth, of course, is that there are some crazy people out there.

Do you browse the KSP forum more than other social networks?
Vaporo replied to HafCoJoe's topic in The Lounge
Considering that I am not a member of Twitbook or Facetagram, yes, I do browse the KSP forums more than other networks. -
5/10. It's cut off at the end.
-
Why do you have a nuclear-free zone? It's perfectly safe.

Ask a stupid question, Get a stupid answer back.

It says on the dial it's at a temperature of "5." Where's Waldo? -
Stranded on earth. Wait... are you telling me that you haven't figured out how to leave yet?
-
7/10 Kind of random, but it fits your username.

Officer, I am the President of the United States. Of course I have control of nuclear weapons in Washington D.C. And no, you can't look in the box or at my forum post. It's classified. You are are stopped on a pier with a remote control, a can of spray paint, and an envelope labeled "Massive Tectonic Disruption Experiment 4."
-
It's propulsion for the Orion drive they're launching today. I just lost my real security card, so I had to make my own. You are stopped in the middle of the Mojave desert with a large flatbed trailer, an axe, and a box labeled "Joe's Terraforming Emporium: Instant Rainforest."
-
You see, officer, I only have a forum post. Surely I am doing no harm. You are pulled over in a housing development with a superman suit, a portal gun, and a flux capacitor in the back.
-
I am here to help one of the residents convert their gas lighting system to a modern electric one. You are stopped near a antique store. In the back seat is a can of spinach, a magawatt laser with a power source, and a book entitled "Witchcraft: A beginner's guide."

I like to bring these tests up when I see a physx performance thread: http://physxinfo.com/news/11327/multithreaded-performance-scaling-in-physx-sdk/ Test 5 is most like what we would have in KSP. There are huge performance boosts just from having the new version of Physx, which is further enhanced by multithreading. Of course, tests like this are usually designed to show off some very specific instances of performance boosts, so I doubt that we'll ever see anything quite that big.

Happy Back to the Future Day! Wed 21st Oct 2015 (Discussion Thread)
Vaporo replied to YargJay9991's topic in The Lounge
My dad and I are going to watch all 3 movies in a marathon. We're going to have pizza for supper (couldn't find any dehydrated pizzas), then sit down around six and watch them until its over. -
Might add a badge. I have absolutely no image editing skills, though, so I'd have to learn how to make one.

Starship Enterprise (TNG version) - landable on Earth?
Vaporo replied to wossname's topic in Science & Spaceflight
If I remember correctly, there's some sort of regulation in the Star Trek universe limiting the speed achieved by impulse power to 1/4 the speed of light. Any engine able to accelerate a ship to that kind of speed in any reasonable amount of time would have no problem lifting off the surface of a planet (or a star, for that matter).
