Lithobrake Exploration Technologies by NecroBones has some really long ladders: https://kerbalstuff.com/mod/1052/Lithobrake%20Exploration%20Technologies
-
I thought I saw that option recently--but it might be the other way around, as in being able to put on the helmet from the right-click menu, but not being able to remove it. Now I want to experiment....

[1.3.1] Cloaking Device (v0.11a Oct 14, 2017)
LitaAlto replied to wasml's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Does turning on/off the cloak cause immediate transparency/visibility? If so, any chance of adding functionality for a slightly more gradual, but still quick, fade in/out? -
Antibiotics, "Night Soil," and *The Martian* [SPOILERS]
LitaAlto replied to LitaAlto's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Glad the movie does that. Although it doesn't entirely remove the risk of contamination with antibiotics from Watney's stool, it would soften the effect. It might lead to antibiotic-resistant Martian soil rather than sterile soil. I'm not sure if I like that idea better. And if Ridley Scott made this change, I guess I'm not the first to go "huh wha?" at Watney's fertilizer strategy--but I don't know of anyone who raised the antibiotics issue before. -
Antibiotics, "Night Soil," and *The Martian* [SPOILERS]
LitaAlto replied to LitaAlto's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Thanks, I'll re-read the Sol 14 entry tonight. I might've glossed over that bit. Presuming they had five days' worth of stool from the rest of the crew, that's a 30-day supply, and might help offset antibiotics in Watney's own stool. But still, presuming he was on antibiotics for 14 days, that's about a third of the supply. That's still pretty significant. -
Antibiotics, "Night Soil," and *The Martian* [SPOILERS]
LitaAlto replied to LitaAlto's topic in Science & Spaceflight
As I mentioned above, "Let's presume that by the time we're ready for Mars, we've resolved that issue." That's a heck of a presumption, but I'm willing to gloss over that. I didn't see anything in the novel (which is my focus here--I have yet to see the movie) to suggest he was using anyone's stool but his own. It's entirely possible that everyone's waste was available, and wasn't processed beyond extracting water, but again, that wasn't mentioned in the novel as far as I can recall. I'll check when I'm home. -
There have been a number of excellent critiques of Andy Weir's novel, The Martian, from a scientific POV. But one that I haven't seen mentioned has to do with Watney taking antibiotics, then using his feces as fertilizer when creating arable Martian soil. Since the novel specifically uses the word "take," I presume these are oral antibiotics, as opposed to injections, salves, or other delivery mechanisms. First, there's the concern that antibiotics aren't as effective in space as on earth, presumably due to microgravity effects. NASA is currently studying this issue, and the results of their first AES-1 experiment haven't been made public yet. Let's presume that by the time we're ready for Mars, we've resolved that issue. How can we be sure that there won't be antibiotics in Watney's stool? And, furthermore, how can we be sure they wouldn't negatively impact the Earth soil, used to culture beneficial bacteria in the sterile Martian soil? If Watney waited until he was done with his antibiotic regimen, that would not be an issue--but there's no indication in the novel that he waits two weeks. Indeed, Watney wanted to make sure he had plenty of feces to use, so he started collecting his stool immediately. This isn't an abstract concern. There are studies which show that antibiotic usage can have adversarial effects on soil. At any rate, this is one aspect of The Martian which kind of bugs me....

Hey all, I have been working on the next challenge, but I'm having some extreme difficulties, and I'm not yet sure if it's because of Kerbal Foundries (version 1.9g) or KerbinSide Air-Race (version 1.7). At the risk of giving away some of my plans--can any of you successfully start the race at Dundard's Edge, using any of your previous anti-grav racecraft? Mine are doing one of two things. It either rolls 90 degrees at the end of the runway, or pitches upward just as you start the descent into the river valley.

I'm really looking forward to seeing more from this--a Copernicus or Nautilus-X would be so fun to fly! As is, I was pretty impressed with the Discovery II parts when I tried them out a couple months ago:

Anyone have a astronomers visual pack for 1.0.4?
LitaAlto replied to awesine's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
CKAN simply installs AVP, either in whole or as individual components, without hitches on my 1.0.4 install. You shouldn't need to do anything specific to make it work. -
"Delta-v calculation errors during landings stink."
-
1.0.4 was bug fixes for the atmospheric heating model. Most mods that work in 1.0.2, should work fine in 1.0.4 unless they were designed to work with the older atmospheric heating model. I believe both DangIt! and TAC should work fine in 1.0.4. I don't believe Steam gives you a built-in option for that, and circumventing that is probably a violation of license, so I will leave it at that. And yes, if you have a mod with a part, and you use the part on a ship, then uninstall the mod, the ship will be removed since the game can no longer render it. In theory one can edit the ship in the persistence file, but that could potentially cause more issues than it'd solve.

So someone could race your Orion against Nyrath's version. HMM. If I weren't already busy....
-
TweakScale is just the easiest way of doing it. You can copy the .cfg, rename the part, change rescaleFactor to a larger number, and that would produce a separate, resized version of the part.
-
FWIW, TiktaalikDreaming adapted Nyrath's original Orion mod, so those who want to go BOOM today, can.

New Maneuver Node Editing Tool
LitaAlto replied to Alshain's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I like Alshain's suggestion, a lot. Even when using MechJeb I find myself manually adjusting nodes all the time, and having a control off to the side would be a wonderful improvement. -
I've given up on my Career game after unlocking all the science nodes. Does informing Whackjob about the updated Orion nuclear pulse rocket count as a sin, or virtue?
-
FL-A5 + TweakScale...?

Cooling his jets after having landed on both Minmus and the Mun. He's letting the younger members of the astronaut corps focus on exploring and colonizing those moons. And he's agitating for a mission to Duna, so he's likely to be in the first expedition there.

Actually, no, not everyone knows. Which is why I asked. If "many" people are doing "the same" in this forum, Squad will shut them down. They cannot accept the legal burden of distributing unlicensed software on this forum, which is why the moderators are very rigorous about removing DL links if there is no license, or if you're distributing others' software without respecting the original license terms. (If you're talking about Reddit, then that's up to Reddit to worry about, but license violations are still a big deal.) It's nothing personal--Squad has to protect themselves legally, so it's up to us to help make it easier for them by respecting the licenses of other mod-makers.

[1.0.5] Kerbal Planetary Base Systems v1.0.2 Released!
LitaAlto replied to Nils277's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Incidentally, Science Revisited Revisited now has compatibility with this mod, with buffs for the Planetary Lab and extra experiments. Edit: Maybe not more experiments, but I did confirm the Planetary Lab now can process 1500 research points at a time. -
[1.4.3] [(Re^4)visited!] Science Revisited 1.7.0
LitaAlto replied to zekew11's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
No worries, thank you!
