  1. Is this the 1.5 mile per pixel image they were discussing?
  2. Yes, inadequate. I have the impression they're working with a single ground receiving station. Other missions have used multiple stations with similar funding. As for 'international' science folks?... last I heard this mission was NASAs, the US alone.
  3. I was quite surprised to hear that information, that downlink speed would be affected by its position in the sky. This tells me that they have inadequate global listening coverage.
  4. Yes. He also stressed that first years and years of study of the data would be done. Thank you. I was just rough guess off the top of my head on that. And I did mention 'one way'.
  5. Why are you guys even watching/listening to these social media twits? Any idiot can get on social media and spout and become a star... look to more credible sources, like the live conference on C-SPAN2 which is happening right now.
  6. The press conference is (also) being broadcast on C-SPAN2.
  7. Those of you who downloaded the app and watched the simulation of the flyby, likely better spent your time than those of us scanning the news for word (which no major networks that I breezed through made any mention of) or watching NASA's tv.
  8. I must say, I am unimpressed by NASA TV's broadcast... too much emphasis on the 'social impact' of this opposed to the actual science and happenings.
  9. Yes, I remember this too; Was posted here in the forums not too long ago. I kept it bookmarked (the site). Forget the scrolling and cheating... try starting at the sun and clicking on the little 'C' icon in the lower right, travel it at the speed of light. I demonstrated that once to my great-nephews using Celestia; Light speed from the sun to Earth. They were astounded... and bored. lol
  10. I think the answer to that is in the post you put up the other day. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/102112-New-Horizons?p=2075404&viewfull=1#post2075404
  11. I would think the receiver (in the boat) is old and tired and suffering from some sort of signal splash-over into the channel which controls the motor. What manner of radio system is it? You say it's old ... PCM/FM?
  12. Somebody has waaay too much time on their hands. lol
  13. Hold the phone!... Wait a minute!... STOP!!! I take back everything I said. While looking at other Mars images I did find something!!!
  14. When I enlarge the rock circled lower-left, I'm seeing eyes and a sad mouth, as though he's agonizing over something ... like maybe this thread.
  15. Not to be rude or anything ... but, are you high or something?
  16. I'm very keen on seeing if the carbon-oxygen white dwarf star associated with said encounter/capture is found. The few known of, I've started looking into, but not enough data is available ... need proper motions. Did you start that Mission to Sedna page?!? Nice!
  17. Sorry but, at first glance of that Ariane 5's second stage picture, the engine ... the first thought which ran through my head was "More struts." Great shots, good info ... thanks for the heads-up!
  18. An article put out (about 4 hours ago) by Idaho State Journal, about the batteries which power New Horizons ... http://www.idahostatejournal.com/members/inl-s-space-battery-powering-new-horizons-spacecraft-on-mission/article_62d72694-2888-11e5-8580-5b2e5398008c.html
