  1. We're talking two different things here. I'm referring to what the eyes/brain perceives on input. You're discussing post processing of that.
  2. Perhaps a bit, yes. I see you live in Houston. You are free to go live where you want, some other country. Will you? And if not, why not?
  3. Could be auto-updaters looking for updates, or usage statistics reporting if you've volunteered to permit such.
  4. Well, what can I say?, that's just you. I have many friends here, as well as people I just know, from nearly every nation in eastern and western Europe (not to mention Asia and South America and elsewhere) ... and they're pretty much all working towards their citizenship. They work here, go to school here, vacation here, look to bring their family here. Yes, things have changed, and they'll continue to change - hopefully for the better as we seem to have gone off track.
  5. I remember that. In 2011 (or was it 2012?) there was another, although I forget the epicenter. I was in Philly at the time, Abrams cancer center, up on the umpteenth floor ... the building swayed, as did all the other buildings outside. I was sitting next to a window, felt the motion, and then noticed everything outside swaying back and forth. Very very freaky.
  6. Truth is, we all live in the past as everything you see has happened already ... it takes time for the light bounced off what we're looking at to reach our eyes, so in that sense we're seeing what has happened and not what is happening.
  7. Nice bikes! I went with Specialized, a hybrid mountain bike (shock absorbing fork, but no floating rear) ... makes for an excellent tour bike on/off road, for unpaved trails - which I do a lot of.
  8. I'd love to know what 1% you're talking about... care to define? What are these facts you speak of? Are you an American? Bash it if you want, yet people from around the world - every nation on the face of this Earth - want to come here. Maybe you should ask yourself 'Why is that?' My day was spent with family and friends and neighbors, sharing food and drink and talk and companionship... counting our blessings, thanking God for all we've been blessed with. Happy 4th all!
  9. From the second link I posted - "The Pluto/Charon system is unique among major bodies in the solar system because it has reached the endpoint of its dynamical evolution: the so-called “dual synchronous†state in which Charon’s orbital period, spin period, and Pluto’s rotation period are equal; ..." I was unaware of this dual synchronous state, and find it interesting; Mention being made about the possibility of evidence of the situation shown in surface features. "As the orbit evolved to its present state and Pluto’s spin rate changed to match Charon’s orbital period, changes in the equilibrium tidal and rotational figures of the two bodies may have left their mark as systems of tectonic features on the surfaces of each body." I'm eager to see better resolution images.
  10. All the speculation about Pluto in this thread, yet no mention about a possibility of a subsurface ocean? I found the following an interesting read..... A Subsurface Ocean on Pluto? and from that article, a reference to... Tectonic Activity on Pluto After the Charon-Forming Impact
  11. I'll stick with the ocean... I hear tell Kerbals tend to pee in the pool.
  12. Latest information I've been reading, is that the 'Pillars of Creation' would be more aptly named the 'Pillars of Destruction'. There is speculation that the pillars, in fact all of the Eagle nebula, have been destroyed ... the image/light of such just hasn't reached us yet. Just a few of the many links out there on the subject... http://www.geog.ucsb.edu/events/department-news/1626/hubble-goes-high-definition-to-revisit-iconic-pillars-of-creation/ http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/crux/2015/01/06/pillars-of-creation-destroyed/#.VZf_7fkQI_A
  13. Not a free OS... as people will soon discover. Neither is MS known for backward compatibility.
  14. P.O.L.I.T.I.C.S. ... and nothing more.

  16. Image #5 ... is that a flying commode/toilet ?!?!? lol
  17. Marriage is a great institution... if one is into being institutionalized.
  18. I don't have pictures available, sorry. I bought my dad the Revell 1/96 scale Constitution kit, this was about 25 years ago, a birthday gift. We built it together. It kept us busy for quite a while, literally took us months to build. The rigging was a task and a half. It was an awesome kit to build, a lot of attention to detail. This link gives an idea of what goes into building one. Years later, around 2005 or so, I helped him a little again with a built from scratch project - the DD-783 he served on in the Navy. Because the ship had undergone so many revisions/upgrades, much of what he fashioned was from memory and the scant few photographs he had of 'his' ship... the configuration of which very closely matches the one in the image below (courtesy http://www.ussgurke.org).
  19. In looking at the image on the right, I notice that each of those dark spots has a corresponding light spot above it ... same with the image on the left, the long dark swath having a light swath immediately above it. I'm thinking 'shadow'.
  20. Using Gimp to enlarge the image and take a look, it kind of reminds me of a frost heave.
  21. 'ME' stood for 'Major Embarrassment', or so it was referred to at the time.
  22. No. Computer systems have been handling leap seconds for over 30 years now ... forget the news hype.
  23. I'm starting to notice a lot of other software companies are jumping on the Win10 bandwagon... offers for downloads of their products which will specifically work with Win10. That's what this is all about - grabbing your $$$$$. Think twice... maybe even three times.
  24. I wondered about that too. Seems very foolish though, accomplishes nothing... so many other ways to voice the displeasure and offended feelings (like simply opening ones mouth and discussing it, or writing letters/emails/blogs). Brings a lot to question about (alleged) AI and statistical learning models, doesn't it. (I mention that because of a recent topic about such here on the forums)
