Spinal injuries are nothing to snort at... worse part is that it doesn't show externally, and folks get to thinking you're faking. First hand experience here.

If it plateaus, I've not hit it yet. Really can't explain it, you just get to a point where you realize that years have gone by and you're like 'huh?'... the days just start melding into one.

Probe cores and large rockets

I've done this in the past ... And this... It works. -
How do I edit the save file?
LordFerret replied to Findthepin1's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you can find the file in Finder, left-click on the file once to select it, then go File \ Open With \ Text Editor ... and if Text Editor is not showing, select Other... and pick Text Editor. If you're using a mouse, you can right-click and do the same via the context menu. -
I can't believe how fast this summer blew by. Then again, the years in general have been zipping by. I'm getting old. Time flies when you're having fun - or not. Time warp comes with age - beware.

[1.1]Hullcam VDS - mod adopted by linuxgamer
LordFerret replied to Albert VDS's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I've been using the docking cams since you've released them. Thank you; Much needed, very helpful and appreciated. Some observations: I've noticed that when coming in for docking, more often than not there is no data displayed about the target ship... don't quote me on this yet, I'll have to check further, but I think I'm only getting data on the first dock after starting the game. Sometimes that data pops up after the ships dock. Tonight I did 4 dockings, building my space station in Kerbin orbit, and not once did docking data appear in the display. I can't figure why this happening. While working on my space station, when attempting to switch to the docking camera on the current ship, I find I have to toggle through every docking port to get to the one onboard my current/active ship. There's nothing unusual about my ships, nor docking attempts - 'control from here' is enacted on the inbound ship, 'set target to' is selected on the target docking port. Is there something you could do about having the docking port camera selection/toggle skip any port that's already in a docked state? -
[KSP v1.1.3] Stock Bug Fix Modules (Release v1.1.3b.1 - 10 Jul 16)
LordFerret replied to Claw's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Have not yet had any issues with the two items mentioned for the current release, but I'm downloading and installing it anyway. I'll keep my eyes open. As always, thank you Claw. -
Wish I still had the listing... guy I worked with (late 80's) used to code using farm animal names for variables. Picture a very large and complex subroutine written as such, and having to go in and rework his code. He was also notorious for leaving random comments like 'I hate my wife and 'If one day you find this doesn't work, it's because I'm really hung over right now... I'll skip his comments about the secretaries.

Moho Easter Egg or Terrain glitch? (not mohole)
LordFerret replied to MrWalrus123's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Some manner of glitch/mistake made when creating the terrain mesh. -
Selected 'Other'. Being I test all ships using probe cores before going manned, I lose most Kerbals (believe it or not) on rover missions ... usually from bad choices, like going too fast and flipping the rover, or using a mono-engine assist to climb a canyon/crater wall and ending up going airborne over the lip at the top. lol

That could very well be. I've heard that 'some types' of formatting had issues. I've not run into it however, but that's likely because I started using Open Office so long ago. I've noticed LibreOffice is coming with most Linux distributions these days, which many believe (of Libre) is superior. I have both actually, but rarely use except for the spreadsheet.

Sorry to hear this. Fires and floods and such really suck. Fortunately you lost only 'things' and not what really matters - your life and that of your loved ones. Wishing you the best during these hard times.
-
Open Office Gambas ... plus other alternatives like the Mono Project. Edit: ...forgot, LibreOffice too.

My history started before there was a PC... can relate. Smart move!

Don't know if it's a bug, but I've had both cases happen from time to time. Usually I'll pop out to the Space Center/Tracking Station and go right back in... seems to help. Sometimes I'll also go out to the far end (as you've described in Case 2), create the node, and then drag it back to where I need it. Sometimes I find I can create the node even when it seems it won't allow it, as if the line is so thin/fine that I've got to hover there and move around a bit before it shows up - and sometimes that's only briefly, and then I have to try again and again.

You all do know that Google, YouTube, etc, are all gearing up for taxable downloads/streaming ... yes?
-
Ah yes... I've lost a number of Ion ships from falling asleep during long (long) burns. lol

I've never seen them 'jump', not from a head crash anyway. For something like that to happen, the spindle and drive motor/flywheel would have to instantly seize - then maybe yes. For a large drive of that type, you'll hear a head crash... for sure... the sound is unmistakable, and unforgettable. One thing I have seen dance across the floor was a huge magnetic core drum. We're talking real old skool stuff here. The thing stood verticle and spun at something like 3000rpm (don't quote me on the speed). Usually they're bolted down to a 1 or 2 inch thick steel plate, which is also bolted/anchored into the cement flooring. If the bolts shear (or some numb-nut forgot to bolt it in the first place) or the cement anchors come loose - get the hell outta the way.

Agreed. Likewise.

Something I wouldn't mind seeing in the VAB (or rather - out back of the VAB) is a test-bed; That way, you wouldn't need to "launch" to test out ladders, solar panels, other parts etc. Some of them do work inside the VAB, some don't. It would be nice to be able to test (or set default state) for action group part assignments inside too... for example, you can toggle RCS thrusters on/off, but when you launch they're always in a default 'on' state - unlike, say, SAS, which can be set off in the VAB and it remains so at launch.

That reminds me, data center in NYC (stock & commodity services house, early 1980's)... 10 HP-1000Cs {+2 R&D} (daisy chained) powering back up after full shutdown, in a room full of 'dishwashers' (12-platter stack drives, I think 24 of them)... they had to spin up to speed and temp before head load & settle. Was like listening to several small jets wind up lol.
