you know... ever since the discussion about KSP multiplayer began, I was against it. For me, KSP is very much a solo game and didn't see any benefit to it. However... building my Minmus refueling and refinery station took quite a toll on my time budget. Two lifter spacecraft, one utility rover and basically three bases (two on the surface, one in orbit) maybe me juggle between craft all the time. And then I realized: This would be really fun to do with a bunch of friends and would feel less of a chore. So yeah... there you have it. I converted to being a pro-multiplayer guy. Would you look at that.

Thoughts on a Grand Tour project... too dark maybe?

Thanks to all for your input. Expect me to deliver on that mission in a few weeks -
Thoughts on a Grand Tour project... too dark maybe?
ShadowZone replied to ShadowZone's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I see your point However, there were some people who did a GT without having to refuel. So for some reason in my head a GT was something you did without any refueling. But that was without real aerodynamics and the new challenges they brought. -
Hey everyone, I am starting to plan a Grand Tour including the Outer Planets Mod but without landing on Eve. Thing is: my vehicle is designed in such a way that it can land on pretty much anything except Eve (okay... land, maybe, but not get back up into orbit). It also has a drill and refinery on board. However, I would still need some resupply depots... So here's my first question: does that still constitute as a Grand Tour if I use up to eight small stations carrying ore for the vehicle to convert into fuel? Current plan would be: Place 8 resupply depots around the system. Launch probes to scan the planets/moons to locate optimal landing site (ore concentration). Launch the GT vehicle proper (with some SRB help it can get into LKO by itself) and to the tour. Now for the dark part: I want to do a YouTube series about this (those of you who know me know that that's kind of my thing... See also my signature). Since I am gunning for an OPM GT, there are nine main planets I want to visit (Moho, Eve, Duna, Dres, Jool, Sarnus, Urlum, Neidon, Plock) besides Kerbin. Therefore I was thinking about styling the episode after the nine circles of Dante's Inferno as sort of an underlying theme. The GT vehicle's name is "Orpheus" (greek mythology: guy who went into the underworld and came back), the resupply stations would be called "Eurydike" I to VIII, the Transfer vehicle to distribute those depots would be called "Charon" and the scanner probes will be called "Kerberos" I and II (one ion powered for the inner planets, one nuke powered for Jool (or mabe already Dres?) and beyond. My second question to you: since KSP and almost everything about it is rather lighthearted, would you think using those rather sinister themes (Inferno, Greek underworld, ...) are sort of counterproductive? Especially since I probably won't stay very serious throughout the series... Any other input about this idea you would like to share? Just bring it on Current developments: GT vehicle, depot launcher, Charon transfer vehicle

Have to agree with the other guys: SRBs serve a certain purpose, which is not being reused throughout a mission
-
I am currently experimenting with a Grand Tour concept. The massive thing is my launcher for the resupply modules I will distribute throughout the system.
-
Was this with the service bay or a cargo bay? Because in my experience the cargo bays do not interfere with other parts when opened.
-
I built a shuttle capable bringing a full orange tank to LKO. Got angry because the new Bandicam messes up the audio track. Still managed to record my orbital speed run. Which was fun
-
I learned the hard way that the claw is Kraken bait deluxe.
-
In honor of the first moon landing I did an Apollo 11 style mission: Not everything went smoothly
-
I made an Eve return vehicle that can get 4 Kerbals from almost sea level (~200m) to orbit. Used a tiny probe core with a 2.5m service bay and 4 seats inside.
-
I used Mk3 cargo bays as sort of hangar doors. I also seen somebody build an entire space station with interior out of the Mk2 cargo bays so the entire side opened up for hangar access.
-
I made a New Horizons replica

MK2 Drone + Cargo Bay + 2x Phyisics = Kaboom
ShadowZone replied to Tobyz28's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yeah I had vehicles explode directly after physics kicked in on the launch pad. Pressed F3: part xyz overheated. Placed that part somewhere else: no problems. -
Congratulations! Want to put your rig to the limit? .craft files are in the descriptions
-
I have used MechJeb extensively in the past and the longer I play, the less I use it. That being said, I still like to put it on my vehicles as sort of a backup option and for maneuver node editing as well as interplanetary transfer window planning.

What SQUAD should do
ShadowZone replied to account212's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
ahem.... this was launched with 1.02 ... maybe not incredible enough for you, but quite unrealistic compared to the real world -
Used them for my final stage of my Eve ascent vehicle. Used them for a resource scanning satellite. So yeah. They're useful Basically whay I like: you don't need a second fuel type if you want to make a lander or satellite or probe that then needs to dock with a mothership or station and want to repeat that.

Valentina transformed into the Kraken on a Mun EVA. -
This is driving me nuts: I want to design sleek landers with shielded docking ports, but I can't attach them to my main craft or decouplers or anything, because there is no node, when you toggle the shielded docking port to open. I want my node! Any way to trick the editor to attaching stuff directly to the docking port?

What is your favourite part of a space mission?

So much this. -
It's okay, nobody got hurt
