R.A.P.I.E.R. engines... do they suck or am I using them wrong?
Wanderfound replied to chrise6102's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Planning on taking half a dozen Migrations instead. I want a crowded parking lot as well as full grandstands. At least four Porklifters for use as start/finish line marker posts, too. -
As far as I know, although it's been a while since the issue came up. Probably worth using TAC-FB to test and confirm.

Have I been living under a rock,,,et?
Wanderfound replied to SpacedCowboy's topic in KSP1 Discussion
http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/55145-0-24-2-Real-Solar-System-v7-2-8-14-14 The Kerbal system is about 1/10th the size of the human one. As Douglas Adams pointed out: Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space. -
[1.3.1] Ferram Aerospace Research: v0.15.9.1 "Liepmann" 4/2/18
Wanderfound replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Keep in mind that lift and drag are closely related. High wings pull the nose up, low wings pull the nose down. AFAIK, anyway: I'm a neuroscience geek, not a physicist.- 14,073 replies

[1.3.1] Ferram Aerospace Research: v0.15.9.1 "Liepmann" 4/2/18
Wanderfound replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
BTW, Ferram: now that everyone has adapted to and stopped whining about the 50% nerf, feel like giving 33% another try? The increasing uptake of the aerodynamically slick soon-to-be-stock SP+ parts is recreating the old superplane issues. At the moment, spaceplanes are kicking rocketry's arse so hard that Squad is likely to bring in its own nerf if you don't pre-empt them. Mach 11 in atmosphere is fun, but it's more than a bit silly. As mentioned previously, I'd be happy to go to AJE, but I don't want to lose the Kerbodyne customer base. Stock vs FAR is enough of a schism already.- 14,073 replies

Have I been living under a rock,,,et?
Wanderfound replied to SpacedCowboy's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Keep looking. There are plenty more such things to be found. Even on Kerbal scale, a solar system is a big place. Lots of room for hiding cool stuff. -
As mentioned upthread: just about any spacecraft should have at least two batteries (and the internal battery of a probe core is fine for one of them). Use tweakables to lock one off as emergency reserve and you will never have a power shortage emergency again. No heavy RTGs required. I did kind of enjoy the desperation solutions of using EVA Kerbals or collisions with other spacecraft to spin the panels into a better orientation, though.

Kerbodyne SSTO Division: Omnibus Thread
Wanderfound replied to Wanderfound's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Still keen to see some more times on the assorted piloting challenges, BTW. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/entries/1662-Active-Challenge-List You don't need to post the best time, just your best time. Give me some bulk so that the leaderboards actually become a list. I've been stuck in this room playing Kerbal for months (Wanderfound is not a healthy boy; I don't have the luxury of a lengthy wait for anything). I could use some external entertainment. If you're worried about exposing yourself as not the world's best pilot, remember that even the worst time on the board beats anyone who didn't try at all. And even if you fail completely, you should get some entertainingly explosive screenshots out of it; see my assorted attempts at the Cratermaker challenge. -
R.A.P.I.E.R. engines... do they suck or am I using them wrong?
Wanderfound replied to chrise6102's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Any reason for the ram intakes rather than shock cones BTW? Incidentally, you could tidy it up a bit if desired by running the fuel lines under the wings and between the lateral tanks before using a single pair of connections to the core. SP+ passenger cabins are crossfeed enabled. -
R.A.P.I.E.R. engines... do they suck or am I using them wrong?
Wanderfound replied to chrise6102's topic in KSP1 Discussion
...which is good. Finally we can build serious passenger liners that don't look like Whackjob monstrosities [1]. I'm hoping to do better than a 100 Kerbal audience for the Minmus ice races. Given the interplanetary fuel range of the Migration, you could easily add another four passenger cabins on the nacelles and still make it to orbit, BTW. [1] No offence intended to Whackjob; your creations are cool. But it's nice not to have to do that. -
I've been disabling the probe core's internal battery, myself. Also getting some use out of locking down fuel tanks; handy for maintaining spaceplane weight balance and ensuring that you've still got some LF when you reenter atmosphere.

The commando services did stuff similar to this sort of thing for real in WWII, BTW. No matter how crazy it is, the SAS have already done it. I'm waiting on someone to figure out how to recreate this bit of impressive loopyness in KSP: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulton_surface-to-air_recovery_system BTW, my favourite bit of SAS badassery is this: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Nazaire_Raid

More Flexibility In Behemoths Of Ships
Wanderfound replied to KooperIO's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Sandbox mode. Even with FAR and DR installed, you can get virtually anything into orbit if cost is not a factor. Moar boosters. The part counts aren't that much of an issue when you can spam the largest parts around. SLS-scale asparagus launchers can lift an absurd amount of tonnage. -
Exploratory mode
Wanderfound replied to TheFloppyFish's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Some sort of exploratory mode is a good idea, but the sudden discovery of planets probably isn't the way to do it. The knowledge of the existence of most of the other planets in the Sol system predates spaceflight by a couple of thousand years. The ancient greeks knew that the Earth was round, had a fairly good idea of its size, and spotted most of the planets without telescopes. The moons of Jupiter were discovered by Galileo. -
Reputation isn't updated
Wanderfound replied to M3tal_Warrior's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
That's still 422.4 rep every time you park one of these on the launchpad, though: -
There is a known bug with the radial decouplers aiming their ejection kick too low, but it's trivial. A couple of Sepratrons can easily neutralise it until it gets fixed. "Game-breaking" is extreme hyperbole.
-
Nah. Switchable difficulty option yes, so those who want to avoid it can, but it's too much a core part of space travel not to integrate into stock. Ditto for Deadly Reentry.

R.A.P.I.E.R. engines... do they suck or am I using them wrong?
Wanderfound replied to chrise6102's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Put some air intakes on it. Turbines need to breathe. -
SP+ includes an inline cockpit. No idea if they'll retain the old 1950's-esque Mk2.

Feelings about being able to fly without MechJeb
Wanderfound replied to LitaAlto's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
For you. Not for everyone. You appear to be continuing to insist that anyone who doesn't have fun the way you prefer to have fun is doing it wrong. That is the messed-up thing here, not how somebody else might choose to play their own game. If you want to limit your use of MJ, then fine: do so. A lot of players, myself included, prefer not to use many of MJ's features. But nobody has any right to tell other people how they should play.
