Reading a Delta V Map.
LordCorwin replied to SpaceSmith's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
According to the map, intercepting Duna once you've escaped from Kerbin costs 110m/s. Has anyone of you achieved that? Normally it takes me between 1000 - 1200 m/s (10 times higher). Also, it takes me more than the 75 days mentioned. -
Jenedaih has landed on the Mun to test the Mainsail engine as part of a contract. The big issue here to me was to land carefully at very low speed with such a monster.
-
I think you've just built the first warp drive :-)
-
Right, it was a Dune reference, I didn't know the other one ;-)
-
Here you can see my concept of a nuclear lander that will go to Duna. It's called Harkonnen. Let's see if I'll be able to harvest anything :-) Right now I'm testing it on Minmus.
-
I think you need about a minimum of 10500 m/s of delta-v to make a mission to Duna and back to Kerbin, assuming you follow an optimal path and good staging.
-
Wow, thanks, a lot, I really didn't notice!
-
I think I discover them today (CAPS LOCK), although I haven't seen any indicator nor message that they're ON or OFF. :-)
-
I also docked a lander to just a fuel depot space station, as it appears in some youtube video tutorials. Before this one I did another test, unsuccessul because the probe was too small and the RCS system was too poweful, and because of my lack of control. So this time I tried a lander with more inertia. Also i put several RCS systems to test what happens when they are out of the center of mass.
-
I'll try, but I'll make some more practice before :-)
-
Achieved my first docking!

need help rescuing Camgrad kerman

Solved! It seems I have a different keyboard. So using Settings I've redefined keys [ and ] and now works. -
need help rescuing Camgrad kerman
LordCorwin replied to mrxplek's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I've tried to press [ and nothing happens :-( No message saying that now I control de Kerbal, and if I press R I only activate the rocket RCS system, not the Kerbal propulsion system. -
need help rescuing Camgrad kerman
LordCorwin replied to mrxplek's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I did as DBT85 said and achieved to be at 400 meters away. Then I aproximated making converge the navball vectors yellow and pink at very low speed. Now I have my Kerbal at 3.7 meters. What I still don't know if how actually rescue him (I sent an automatic probe with an empty pod). -
Is perfectionism driving you crazy in 0.24?
LordCorwin replied to allmhuran's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yes, me I haven't seen any mission regarding biomes and these places provide a lot of science. So I'm trying to do as many contracts as possible to get funds in order to leave me enough cash to do the science missions I want. Of course this also involves to return as close to KSC as possible. 0.24 - Asparagus too pricey?
LordCorwin replied to ShunterAlhena's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
My unmaned probe cost me 24820 (just going to Mun: orbit, science data, land safely and more science data) . For the "Plant flag on Mun" contract: my manned mission to Mun (return to Kerbin included) cost me 59766 and I was able to recover 12208. It included as Payload 3 SC-9001 Science Jr and 3 Mistery Goos and 4 parachutes. I almost cannot come back to Kerbin. I finished out of gas trying to escape from Mun's orbit, I had to squeeze every drop of the monopropellant remaining in the RCS system to come back to Kerbin! -
0.24 Issue when targeting Kerbin
LordCorwin replied to LordCorwin's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Ups, sorry, I thought Kerbin's SOI finished when I was orbiting Mun! Thanks EdFred. Lord -
FYI, I have a mission coming back from Mun and I wanted to target Kerbing to correct the angle. It turns out that I can Focus View on Kerbin but I cannot target it (and I'm still in Mun's orbit, I'm not in Kerbin's sphere of influence). Also if you move the mouse over the planet it seems as if it is not recognized (it doesn't provide information), and if I click on the planet the menu to target Kerbin does not appear, I just can focus view by double clicking on it. In the same situation I'm able to target other celestial bodies without any problem. I tried to increase the zoom out the view until all inner solar system fits in the screen and then I targeted Eve (no problem). At the same scale Kerbin, Mun and Minmus appear as a single dot. Then if I move the mouse over Kerbin, Mun and Minmus, information for all three appears in the screen and it allows to target Kerbin again. But when confirming action ("Set as Target") it appears the message "No Target"!!!. I think this didn't happen to me when using 0.23; I made other missions to Mun, Minmus & Ike and as far as I remember I didn't have any problem targetting Kerbin. I'm using v32 bits. Regards Lord

FYI, I don't know if this has been tested before or if it is a bug, but I'm going to explain what I've tested today. It seems it is possible to place a Materials Bay AROUND a nuclear rocket. And both work ok. See the picture. The drawback I've found is when staging a booster below this. The design gets a little crazy, and when doing the separation the rocket gets quite unstabilized. I've solved more or less the issue adding some retrorockets to the booster stage. In the image you can see that the booster below the nuclear engine has 2 fuel tanks, and one of them is "mixed" with the nuclear engine, just were the material bay is. So in the same place we have materials bay, nuclear engine rocket and decoupler+ booster 2nd fuel tank. Image before separation (they correspond to different flights, sorry). The instant of the separation: activation of decoupler + retrorockets + nuclear engine fairing separation. 2 seconds later I managed to stabilize again the rocket. Why mixing the materials bay and the nuclear engine? I wanted to save space above the engine, and reduce the position of the center of gravity. Lord.

Third time Jebediah has landed on Mun. As former occasions, I've improved the probe. Also I've spent less fuel in all maneuvers, and I've landed in a more difficult place. Here Jebediah before climbing again to the hatch.

Hi r4pt0r, I've just landed in Kerbin, still with most of the fuel in the last stage (the single small motor under the cabin). I've been able to get an EVA report, samples, report, etc. As my former probes already landed in mountains and the Farside crater, this time I landed in the East Farside crater, so I still have obtained 388 science points. Still I need to do some adjustments in my landing rocket. I have gained a lot of stability and solved the torque problem. But when reentering in the Kerbin atmosphere, it was quite unmanageable (I don't know what would had happened using a realistic mod). Moreover I would like to access the hatch in a easier way. So I think I still have a lot of work to do! :-D Lord

Today one of my Kerbals has landed in Mun for the very first time (previous versions I sent a probe)! And he has enough fuel to come back to Kerbin. You cannot imagine how happy I am right now :-) Lord
-
You have fantastic rockets! I've achieved my third Mun landing. I think it will be the second to achive Kerbin return. I've improved stability and maneuver. I had some problems with spinning, but I've nailed the problem.
-
Second successful Mun landing achieved! I did another landing with a similar probe, but it was quite difficult to manage, my horizontal speed increased and started to do rolls over the surface until it crashed. This time I added some RCS to facilitate control, and finally achived landing. My intention is to come back to Kerbin, though I'm not sure if I have enough fuel. Lord

First Mun landing!!
