With all those beautiful SSTO designs out there and videos of infinite range space planes doing the "grand tour", I decided to start working on yet another craft. Similar to my existing fleet of starships except that it's all-in-one from launch to landing. I made it out to Minmus to refuel on my latest test flight but it has a lot of bugs to work out before I'm ready to release it, and testing these infinite range SSTO's tends to be a lengthy process. And with a craft like this, if you can't land it on Laythe and return there's no point. JR

Thanks, I'm now working on new designs for infinite range SSTO's that don't require all that "piggyback mating"... (as much fun as that sounds it's pretty time consuming - LOL!) JR

Yeah, I've moved on since that last failed experiment. I'm now working on the next illogical but aesthetically pleasing design. This one can go directly to Minmus for refueling. JR

I'm having a problem with those wings on the design below: I'm basically going to try spamming heat sink's and air-brakes to see if I can stop the explosions on reentry! JR

What's your descent profile? How do you keep those wing segments from burning up on reentry? JR

If the game does include some sort of life support requirement that brings up the issue of rescue missions. How will it work if you need to rescue a Kerbal in orbit around say Eeloo? Will you need to do it before their life support runs out? JR

I grabbed maps from Sido's Urania system as well as the Alternis mod (and I've imported some from Space Engine), but the red and green planets were just me dicking around with the Boulder Co atmosphere config files - adding clouds and changing colors (some new cloud textures were imported from Space Engine as well). I'll be revisiting this at a later date, but for now I just grabbed some really cool pics. I've been having problems with that modded install, with all the experimenting that I did so I need to work on getting it stable before I can think about sharing it out. JR

Exactly my plan; surround the main controller, weapons engines and some fuel and power with heavy armor, then build the rest of the craft around it. That way when you get hit, things will explode but you will be able to continue the fight. JR

Put it this way; I've landed on Tylo and returned safely into orbit. I can't say the same for Eve. JR

It's really bad when you think it's Wednesday and it's actually Friday! Doh! JR

I had so much trouble trying to land on the Mun at first that it got me freaked out about docking and I kept avoiding doing it because I figured I would fail miserably. As it turnd out it wasn't as difficult as I had convinced myself it would be. It was all just like walking downhill after that. There's one exception however; the one thing I still haven't done in this game is a return from Eve - but I'm working on it with a little help from my friends. JR

Good point. Maybe they're like a keystone species seeding the galaxy with life and thriving on Terran class planets, evolving into intelligent space-faring species... JR
