  1. Yeah it's more of a video than a movie but they didn't have that option for the thread. There's really a lot going on in this one - you need to watch it more than once to get everything. The visuals, the commentary and the lyrics and tempo of the song; I tried to match the story of the missions to the lyrics but it was really tough to get the timing right. This is only the third video that I've edited so I'm still working on getting it down, and it's still a bit rough around the edges. I also had that whole space pirate theme going on but missed an opportunity to put up the Jolly Roger when I planted the flag on Minmus (Doh!). Too late for this video, but maybe the next one. In any case I'm glad you enjoyed it. JR

  4. I'm glad you guys like the craft - I don't play the game the same way most people do, and I prefer to go for design over efficiency, that's just my style. There was lots of stuff going on in the video and I really didn't show some of the capabilities of the von Richthoven like the fact that it can drive across the surface of a planet in order to hit multiple locations for some of those more complex contracts, or the fact that you can pretty much do a grand tour, and I didn't even show any of the science capabilities. This was one of my first all-in-one craft and I wasn't very far along the tech tree when I designed it (I had just barely got to the ISRU stage). I have a backlog of other craft that I need to finalize and do videos for so I'm going to start working on the next one right away. I want to get some of these old designs out of the way before 1.0.5 drops and I get inspired to create more monstrosities. JR Edit: That's just Rune - he insults my designs and I take his beautiful creations and mangle them to suit my needs, it's our thing.

  6. I build all-in-one starships that have the refinery and drills included. I usually refine all of the ore on the surface then fill my tanks again and finish refining it once I'm back in orbit and my fuel has dropped enough to have room. So I guess you could say I do both. It's a system that works great and allows my ships to go pretty much anywhere. JR
  7. I FINALLY finished my first fully edited video and man it was a lot more work than I anticipated. But I'm happy with the results... you can judge for yourself. JR

  10. I have a space craft in orbit of Kerbin and I accidentally deployed the chutes. Now they are going to deploy too soon and burn up in the upper atmosphere. How do I reverse the deployment state? Can I pack them back in and re-deploy them later or am I just hooped? JR
  11. I like to use ALL of the different engines on my craft, it makes each design unique and allows the flight dynamics to be different for each build. My favorite would have to be the Reliant engines because they have the old-school rocket engine look. JR Edit: I tend to design my starships like space planes so I'd like an option to make the rocket engines behave like Rapiers - not air breathing, but from a fuel flow perspective. I like how the Rapiers will pull fuel from all tanks at once: it helps with fuel balancing and saves on fuel lines.

  13. I can't seem to stop making big beautiful infinite range SSTO starships... it's like I'm addicted or something. This one is a remake of a Jool-5 ship I originally did back in 0.90 that I named the Argo. There will need to be a few more tweaks before I can land this puppy on Tylo though - and 29 engines is getting a bit out of hand. JR

  16. The only thing I've heard of is the possible inclusion of clouds, but that is covered nicely by Astronomers Visual Enhancements mod, so it's unlikely to be included in the core game. JR
  17. No it's a regular SSTO space plane, it takes off from Kerbin horizontally on the runway. But you are right about the rest, the landing engines allow it to do a VTOL type landing on low-gravity moons and use the ISRU to refuel. It should basically be able to go to every planet & moon except for Eve, (and I'm not too sure about Tylo). It's a WIP so I have to still test it some more. JR Edit: The landing gear are not showing up in the Sketchfab 3D image but they are there in the design. The drills are also missing - I think I may need to update my loader software.

  20. Yeah I get that, but to me fixing a messed up mission or needing to rescue Kerbals that aren't part of the contract system makes the game more interesting and adds real drama. I'm going to see if I can vidcap the whole thing as well. I can always test designs in a separate sandbox environment before each flight - that should lessen the risk. As far as glitches go, that happens in the real world too so it's just another challenge... JR
