  1. I keep seeing this word "plaid" everywhere. What does it mean in the context of KSP?
  2. Wow, lots of good advice here, thank you everyone. I also think the new aero system has thrown me off kilter, perhaps my vehicles are inefficient because I'm too accustomed to the old soup atmosphere. I'll get the slide rule out and try some different stuff. 1.0.2 is just out so I'll upgrade and start fresh and put some of your tips into practice!
  3. .....Or perhaps they flew on the wings of love? I admit it's not a scientific hypothesis, but scientists should keep an open mind.
  4. There is a phrase "easier said than done". I'd seriously appreciate a good description (or a tutorial) about how to accomplish that. Getting to Minmus seems to be an impossibility given the tech tree choices I've made so far. Painting oneself into a corner is definitely a thing in KSP 1.0.x.
  5. At 600MB per time, hmm. I know it's the 1990's but it still hurts.
  6. In answer to recent posts - yes I have built new planes with many science instruments and flown them far and wide and hath spammeth aplenty where applicable. The rewards are dwindling, alas. I understand the attraction of sandbox mode, but it's something that I have always felt to be a bit aimless. "Sure I can build this 8000 ton mega-frigate with homing missiles, but so what?". Might go back to 0.90.
  7. Sounds like grinding. If it takes several (real-world) days to get up to a strong tech base then this is going to hurt a lot of players every time a new update comes out. I notice that 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 have been released in the last few hours. *sigh* The trials and tribulations we endure eh?
  8. More moaning, because I feel sorry for myself for no reason... I was initially encouraged by being able to get about 120 science by doing the normal science spamming tactics - but that only gets you to the mediocre early rocketry parts and crap aircraft parts and maybe thermometers if you're lucky. Now I'm pretty much stuck on Kerbin with 400 tightwad hipster tourists and no decent biomes in range because my unmanned rockets will not fly in a straight line and a grand total of 3.6 science to spend. Trapped in purgatory and there is no science here. The other option is sandbox. But in sandbox, nothing matters. No fun. Bah
  9. 1.0 is kicking my butt. Didn't used to be like this. It's as if my ship design is a secret password - wrong password, NO SPACE FOR YOU! Why is there so little science reward for such hard early contracts? 1 science point for a mun flyby? Are you kidding me? I'm struggling to find enjoyment in the career mode any more. HEEEEEEEEEEELP!
  10. Hmm, the LV-1R "Spider" engine category (check the spelling on the OP) just got me to the Insular Airstrip in less than 5 minutes without any real effort or any real wings. Perhaps this challenge should be restricted to a maximum of 2 or 3 spider engines. I will not submit my entry in this case since I dispute the rules
  11. I'm stumped. Well, lets give it a few days. We have new features to explode explore, and we might find a new way to use ions in a green fashion.
  12. I fear no more ion gliders. 0.1kn thrust on the runway.
  13. Seems that KSP1.0 has severely nerfed Ion Engines. I can barely get a simple go-kart up to 10m/s on the runway. Any ideas?
  14. When in space, staring into the sun blots out all the stars. That's a nice feature.
  15. Congratulations indeed! I doff my flying goggles to you Juzeris. It was a really great challenge and it's always best to have some tough competition to test one's mettle. And you stuck the landing too. Hmmph. I have just now moved over to KSP 1.0 (complete abandonment of previous version). So any future efforts on my part will be undertaken in 1.0. I hope 1.0's shiny new aerodynamics will allow me to claw back a few seconds from you
  16. WORK-AROUND!!!!! You can kind of half-avoid this parts placement bug issue temporarily without leaving the VAB or SPH... How to reproduce the bug in KSP 1.0 (I've literally been playing it for 3 minutes )... Enter the SPH but DO NOT TOUCH the 3D mouse yet! start a new craft place a command module move the 3D mouse a little to change the camera angle (this seems to set up the bug) Go to the engines list and place a FLEA engine -- the bug happens here. The engine gets stuck in the construction area and you can't click pick it up until you exit and re-enter the SPH or........ The fast workaround to get you going again quickly without leaving the SPH and re-entering... Hit the "2" key on the main part of your keyboard click the FLEA engine (it should now be attached to your mouse like as if it's in the "Place" mode). Hit the "1" key on the main part of your keyboard. This gets you back in normal place mode again. Place the part where you want it. Carry on working as normal. You'll have to do this every time you use the 3d mouse while in the VAB or SPH. I have not seen any problems outside of these contexts yet but I'll update later if I do. This seems like a nice workaround in the short term if you are used to working with the "123" keys as I am (as of 0.90). I hope this helps some of you. If any devs are listening, I suspect that the bug is to do with event handling somewhere in the mouse clicking and volumetric coordinate-calculations for the current mouse cursor. It's as if the 3D mouse is de-synchronising the camera's understanding of the scene from the 2D mouse's reference frame. Perhaps the 3D mouse needs to tell the 2D mouse that despite the 2D mouse not moving, the scene has. I don't know, but that's what it "feels like". I'd be glad to help devs debug this on my machine if they need assistance.
  17. No, it's one of these... http://www.3dconnexion.co.uk/products/spacemouse/spacenavigator.html Works, but found a few annoying bugs in KSP already. Apparently they won't be fixed in 1.0 but whatever, I'll work around them. Made a perfect landing on the island runway first time of asking! I had to reduce the sensitivity of the device in the settings though, it's pretty twitchy until you tune it just right. Flies a jet like a dream.
  18. My brand new spacenavigator and KSP 0.90 has this parts placement issue also. I'm severely bummed out by this. Doesn't seem to be marked as fixed in the bug tracker linked above, it's not even targeted for fix
  19. 404 "patience" not found. :D I bought a SpaceNavigator as a treat to myself in anticipation of KSP 1.0. Just setting it up now.
  20. Pandora or Calypso. Hmm, to Open Pandora's box? I bet Jeb would open it in a heartbeat and with a smile. But, some say that Calypso has some connection to the Kraken. I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to decide which moon I meant. Plus 17 is a prime.
  21. The timezone isn't really the big problem with getting a copy. Squad have crashed 1,000,000 copies of KSP on the 17th moon of Saturn and you have to go fetch one yourself.
  22. My donation to the KSP Challenge Judges' Retirement Fund is in the mail.
