  1. It just really sucks when I have a kerbal strapped to a robotic arm trying to build a satellite in my shuttle's payload bay and I cant attach small engines that cant be surface attached
  2. So after messing around all night, I've noticed that the node attachment system for the EVA construction doesn't work once the kerbal is beyond a certain distance from the root part. Even if said kerbal is right next to the part you want to attach too, if the kerbal is too far from the root it wont work. I tested by: translating a docking port close to the root with kerbal near root, node attach worked translating a docking port far away from the root with kerbal near root, node attach showed up but couldnt reach with the part (as it probably should be) translating a docking port close to root with kerbal far from root, node attach didnt work (as expected) translating a docking port far away from the root with kerbal far from the root (right next to the part), node attach didnt show up or work I'd like to see this fixed, as it makes construction in the payload bay of my shuttle near impossible
  3. Aerodynamic control surfaces have had this feature for a while, and it's only gotten better as time has gone on. Why shouldn't engine gimbals have this too? It would be perfect for craft that often have their COM change due to additional payload or fuel drain without having to manually change their mounting angle in the VAB.
  4. Slight modification to my design. The big change is the placement of the props. I know the OP says "no extreme clipping/offset" so I don't know how you guys would classify offsetting the blades just enough to remove their rotational drag to remove the need for overclocking. Also, to answer your question: The motors themselves are the only things in the fairings. The propellers are not. Minor speed update:
  5. I got you beat by about 8m/s. 12 blades per rotor, 4 rotors, each clipped inside a fairing. This was also with the torque overclocked significantly.
  6. Hello again everyone, I recently went back and rebuilt my gantry system to be an all in one refueling, integration, and storage facility. I'm thinking about stress testing this system by integrating a simple payload over and over again until it breaks. I will update you all when I have managed to break it (hopefully it surpasses my previous record as posted here last year). See you all soon.

  11. As long as you keep youre transverse rates really low you shouldnt see much wobble. Im talking like 1 or 2, not like 10
  12. You can stack hinges and strut them to the moving part to make stonger hinges. Thats how I made this heavy crane Since autostruts only work through locked robotics, you could throttle down at SRB sep unlock the hinge, move it and relock it to make it less wobbly. That or you could do the same thing that i mentioned above. It sounds like youre having a lot of issues with docking ports. If you use a ball joint at either the end effector or the shoulder it would fix that since you'd have 2 vessels. @4x4cheesecake posted a link to my arm earlier. I actually only replaced the elbow on my new from my old and it works 100x better than the old one and it just about as easy to use.

  14. So if everything I integrate into the bay isnt released as payload it counts as a different variant?
  15. The arm module counts as a unique config? There was no modification to the flight characteristics of the vehicle. The Fuel tanks was a dummy payload with all its tanks locked. Just for future reference, what counts as a unique config besides fuel usage and engines? Cause at the end of the day this flight ended up no different than any previous one
  16. Should I keep you guys updated with future missions? It takes me a very long time to design, integrate and fly payloads, let alone complete large multilaunch missions, so it won't be all that often. For example, I did end up testing that arm I showed off in a previous post last night on ESF-14. I had to actually integrate 2 payloads, deintegrate both, then reintegrate them since that initial arm I showed didnt fit like I wanted it to. Ended up taking me about 5 hours in total for the whole mission. Heres the initial integration: The mission log: ESF-14: Crew: Jessen Jebney Rodlock Seegard Payload: KerbalArm Skylon Demo Payload Mission: Test the KerbalArm Skylon by manuevering the Demo payload to the Skylon's main docking port, then back into the payload bay Conclusions: Flight to inclination: Successful Orbit: Successful Rendezvous: Successful Docking: Successful Payload Mission: Successful Undocking: Successful Reentry: Successful Landing: Relatively hard. Touchdown @ 70m/s. Keep speed higher, but same landing profile Notes: Don't exceed 10t payload with the arm. It is very wonky to move around with payloads as large as the Demo payload. New Flight profile researched. May allow for larger payloads/ smaller payloads to deep space. In a simulation (quicksave and quickload) it was discovered that this new flight profile allowed for Explorer to rearch Munar SOI with around 20t of payload. And some pictures in space: There weren't any payloads actually deployed so idk how that fits, but I did maneuver this test payload around for a bit Oh, and then I completely rebuilt my gantry crane. New version works the best out of any I've used so far. Its symmetry use is wayyyy better than the previous version, so its wayyyyyy smoother. Also, for anyone wondering why this doesn't perform all my launches, its because I find this bad boy much more entertaining: (Again, completely stock parts)

  18. 1. I would give you a better name, but as a joke the actual craft file is titled "_________Skylon" cause I needed to drag it to the top. It was never actually at the top and now my spaceplane hanger's craft list is a huge excrements storm of "__________________________________________________untitled space craft". Or you can just call it explorer since I renamed it after I put it on the runway the first time. 2. I started flying this back in December. If I remember correctly it has landed at the runway every time. The previous version started at the normal cape then fly over to the desert after a mission though! 3. Yup (ignoring some quicksaves on landing and turning to the correct inclination, as its a massive chungus soooooooo. The runway is 6 degrees inclined so I have to fly to the equator, for some reason the wings would rip off on earlier missions. I wasnt pulling many g's either ) 4. Does it necessarily have to release it? I have one payload thats specifically for carrying crew to my space station/deep space ships. I have used it once, but it still sitting unrecovered on its original truck near my gantry. 5. So that is literally a docking port, a hab and a fuel tank. No engines, no deployment, only fueled on the ground. It just used the extra fuel to do the mun flyby. It was also originally designed to help refuel deep space vehicles. Here's some pictures on orbit after it completed some missions: Duna Satellites: This was a 2 mission set where one was to carry a satellite and an adapter and the second was to carry the second satellite. Thats what you see in the middle of the large spacecraft in this image (2 launches) Mun Transport (Abandoned): Built this entire vehicle. The lander attached at the top was originally designed as the main propulsion and transfer element. After design of a larger more capable vehicle this vehicle was left in orbit abandoned. (4 launches) Untitled Mission: Don't remember what this was but this has both the new upperstage (top right with 2 cheetahs. payload is attached to it then the whole thing is deployed. The upperstage does a spacex like boostback burn to rendezvous with the skylon) and that hab (Middle right) bit that was in question. Edit: I will be adding more to this in a few minutes with a few pics of the current launch complex Current Complex: New Arm Payload This is still in the design phase and has yet to fly. Im planning for it to be removable and for it to be put in alongside a regular payload. Its using krakentech ball joints and a BG servo.
  19. Yup, got all that. Guess I should explicitly mentioned that, huh? Full stock part and atmo. Only refueled on the surface using a mining vehicle. No modifications were made to the ship beyond payload configuration. The most vehicle effecting payload I've used was a 4crew hab and half size 2.5m fuel take I used to take it around the mun on a flyby. That's counted in in the number of missions I gave you. It hasn't been recovered since I first started that count.
  20. Do we get bonus points for actually reusable cargo sstos? Cause I have one that has flown 14 missions to this point. 14 different payloads with the largest being an asteroid redirect craft weighing about 40t lofted into polar orbit. It also has an upperstage I can put in which has flown 3 times (i think?). I use a gantry crane to put it all together.

International Space Station! This one is a massive project. All the Russian and truss segments are from a previous attempt, but everything on the American side is new taking inspiration from @Raptor9. If I ever do actually try and fly all this hardware it won't be until the summer after I build my new PC. This thing gets to 1250 parts with my shuttle and the two arms. Both of which I will actually need to build this thing, and I'm not really down to operate one, let alone two, at <1 fps. How bout some shuttle derived architecture?
