  1. Before the end of the month, to the uproar of the community.
  2. My main issue with the Jool system is getting repeat moon encounters that throw my ship out of the system. Never tried to explore any moons besides Laythe... they seemed too much a hassle to get to.
  3. There are only Cheese Sandwiches. Assimilate or perish. Honestly, I couldn't care less. KSP has been one of the few games that has enough merit on it's own that I'm not constantly wishing for updates. KSP is great how it is, and I don't care too much how long future patches take... let them polish em and put em out in their own time. "Alpha," "Beta," and "Release" are just labels in my eyes.
  4. I've had (frequent) situations when a reaction wheel will show "Not enough electricity," but will function perfectly normally.
  5. One time I landed on the Mun (bringing a solar power tower to a mine drone) with 20 m/s dV left. I think I've done a few de-orbits with 0 m/s dV (using RCS).
  6. Started stepping up on mods as we get closer to 1.0 Been having a lot of trouble with EVE, though... I can get pretty much anything else to install and run great, but as soon as I add it, the game crashes at the main menu :S
  7. Back to the original question, then: I personally don't mind them. Even an "obnoxious" avatar or gif (as you are just so eager to describe them as) can be easily ignored or overlooked. Like Vana said, you can choose to have them not appear on your browser if you are so opposed. Unless it's main intention is to be irritating (and even then, who's to judge whether that's true?) or offensive it should be allowed. If it's blatantly against the forum rules, then yes, it should be removed. If the only issue is that you don't like it, well, tough luck, buddy. Is there a specific reason you have to complain about this? Perhaps medical or something (some kind of epilepsy perhaps? I certainly wouldn't count ADD as a major medical issue)? If so, your points are absolutely understandable.
  8. Well, why not totally ban all avatars? Bright colors are really distracting when I'm trying to read text. Especially the yellow in yours, OP. Wowee. You know what, let's get rid of formatting, too. I can't get through a single sentence without staring at those sharp box edges. Seriously, though, if you get that distracted by gifs, then I'm rather worried you might, in reality, be a goldfish.
  9. In my experience (I use the Docking Port Sr. almost exclusively), docking ports will not break under ordinary conditions (ascending, descending) as long as you don't throw very sudden, sharp maneuvers in there. The only time I've had issues, is if I have chutes opening suddenly, causing something docked to it to rip off due to sudden high G's. If you still have issues, consider using Kerbal Attachment System. It adds a few parts to help strengthen your ships (including connectable pipes and struts that can be placed and moved in-situ).
  10. I'm using Kolonization for most of those parts, but I haven't installed any water-related mods. Most stuff has natural buoyancy as long as you keep it lightish. Just make sure to pack on the chutes so it lands nice and soft, preferably under 5 m/s. On a lot of my bases, I put some girders and structural plates under it to cushion the landing and keep it stable (kind of like a keel on a sailboat).
  11. I gotta disagree too. I'd love seeing native creatures roaming around other planets (dinosaurs, whales, even cutesy little fluffy things, idc), and I'm a straight white male.
  12. I find it's much easier to skip those contracts for Mun and just do the ones for Minmus. The lower gravity means you can easily send a small Ion-Powered probe with a couple thousand dV there to do simple bunny hops. I did this once, and completed 6 or 7 seismic contracts, each of which involved landing at 4 or more seperate locations each. Since the gravity is so low on Minmus, you can easily stop your horizontal speed when you reach the zone, and landing is usually a very slow, simple process. Just my two cents.
  13. I don't discriminate against the derps. Green power!
  14. Lol, "Surface Ship" is definitely misleading. Lots of folks on here have made ships, though. Zekes makes replica battleships. Cupcake make Laythe-based stuff. I've made a few floating things too.
  15. Well the thing is, literally every other game besides KSP runs great on my current CPU. As such, I'm not gonna buy a new part to address KSP's very unique single-core-speed issue when in reality, it won't be an issue in (I assume) a year or less
  16. Pipes are the most effective way that I've done. They're sturdy enough for surface bases and you can transfer Kerbals and resources through em.
  17. I strongly support the use of KAS. It makes all sorts of things possible. Also, for the claw, you might want to consider Infernal Robotics. They have a variety of hinges and rotors that can be used for stuff like this.
  18. Sometimes I use it to auto-complete contracts. Other than that, I leave it alone.
  19. Seconded. Also, for KSP, that's waaaay more info than needed. AFAIK, the only really important factors are CPU speed and total RAM (though it only becomes an issue for heavily-modded installs). Based on the stats shown, my advice is: turn all your graphics down to minimum.
  20. While I'm not surprised by the outcome of the poll (overwhelmingly male), I think it's possible that there are a larger proportion of females who play, but choose not to participate in forums/etc, due to, well, situations like GamerGate. There's often a lot of backlash against female gamers, so I wouldn't be surprised if a portion of them are silent for only that reason.
  21. Well that certainly answers my question. Looking on NewEgg, I can say that a high-caliber Intel core is a bit out of my price range at the moment. Thanks for the info!
  22. Hi all, got kind of a random question here. Is there a chart somewhere that shows KSP performance across various CPUs? I've read that Intel has a major advantage in single-processing power over AMD, and can generally run higher-piece ships (200+ parts) better than AMD. I'm using an AMD FX-4100 Zambezi (Quad-Core, 3.6 gHz) and I can get to about 200 parts before physics lag becomes annoying (timer bar text turns yellow). As I understand it, my CPU is rather outdated. Would I get a better boost out of upgrading to an Intel core (assuming hardware compatibility) or sticking with AMD?
