So what should I do val?

I'd try with a simpler wing layout to reduce the possible amount of faults.

    • A simple straight wing, with optional Ailerons.
    • One set of horizontal fins at the back for elevator control
    • Keep the vertical fins as is.

Keep the CoL close behind CoM as you have it now. If you can get that to work, you can add more and modify layout until you find out what made it go wrong.

For some reason, I'm not having that problem... You're probably right and I've found some sort of strange KSP physics flaw...

Very likely. As the CoL doesn't take into account lift and drag from parts with no Lift rating. Which also means my statement is only accurate for crafts with very few non-Lift rating parts.

Torque from off center engine thrust can also be a factor.

I do not understand. Are you talking about the elevators on the wings ?

Yes. It is probably not the only problem you are having, but I think it's a contributing factor.

Thanks for the explanation! (in time, what did you use to generate the animated images?)

I first recorded it as a video clip, then made it to a .gif with http://gifmaker.me/

In time, @Val, since the CoM usually moves as the fuel is consumed, would be more appropriate to make the elevons shift functions based on the CoL?

It can't be based on CoL, because moving the control surfaces moves CoL. That is actually the whole purpose of control surfaces. Moving the CoL around to make the craft change attitude.

This would make things a bit more realistic - and logical, as the rotation pivot is the CoL...

    No. The pivot is CoM.

@Vanamonde no not really. The question was about a chat/pm's with a user. The messages are not older than 3 months. Still the other user in the chat is now named 'Guest'. This was a bit irritating because the chat showed me as the only participant.

The blue tag that mentions a user (like the blue one that mentioned you in this post) is also a dead link for said user.

I wanted to know if this means that the user deleted the account or if this can be a side effect of e.g. a renaming of the user.

If you Report the PM with your question, a moderator can look at it and maybe get an explanation.

Post count building thread before the mods get their grubby paws on it.  (Looks at Dman.......accurate.  :D)

Posts in the Lounge don't count towards post count.

  7. In stock Aerodynamics, all wing surfaces in KSP are completely symmetrical. It doesn't matter which side is up or down.

    • They only create lift when they have Angle of Attack.

So if your craft shows the Tail Fin as producing lift to one side, that means the fin is not moving 100% in the direction that the fin is pointing.

A likely cause could be that the landing gear is buckling slightly either from load or because the parts the landing gears are attached to are flexing.

  8. This could be caused by having the main landing gear to far in front or behind Center of Mass (CoM).

To get a stable landing gear setup, you want

    • A main gear lifting the craft as close to CoM as possible without tipping.
    • A nose gear or a tail wheel as far from the main gear as possible.

A car type layout of the landing gear, where all the landing gears are located near the ends of the craft can create the symptoms you describe.

Here's a couple examples that are very stable.

im to quick to pull the trigger when asking questions, figured it out almost immediately after posting.

I think it'd be much better to leave it for the next someone with the same issue or question. It'd be even more helpful if you replied with the solution (as an actual reply) and then marked the reply as best answer. Then it'd be even easier for others to see that there's a useful reply in there.

But... since nobody has replied yet, I can delete it if you really, really want me to.

  10. If your post concerns itself with colonization, ISRU, survival on extra-terrestrial planets, satellite internet, or flamethrowers, then it doesn't belong in this thread and will be moved.

Consider posting it in one of these threads, instead.

If you have questions or comments regarding this, please do NOT post here. Either report this post with your question or concern or PM me or another moderator.
