Is Kerbal society global, or made up of nations?
Rocketscience101 replied to Tex's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I believe Kerbal are native to the small area where the ksc is. Possibly in th grasslands. I don't think they have spread very far and spend much of their time in caves. Other than the desert and the small island, they try and remain hidden. The Kerbals recently came out from their caves, and discovered the stars. Absolutely transfixed they immediately abandoned their traditional ways and pooled all their resources to, and I quote "get a closer look". -
Well it won't be Kerbal comic. But I'll try and start something up. Although I don't want to replace kerbalcomics. I do want to see it continued if at all possible.
-
Well hey I'm trying to get into online comics. Perhaps we could start a new one. Which would y'all prefer. Comedy or serious?
-
Whatever happened to the maker of kerbalsomics, if anything I'd love for someone to continue it.

Kerbal Space Program 1.2: Loud & Clear release date and more!
Rocketscience101 replied to UomoCapra's topic in 2016
We are trying to fix it, but then the stream started so I'm just waiting for the launch and then steam to download the update so I can return to being completely quiet from the forums for like 2 months, before returning and getting hyped about the next update.- 418 replies

Kerbal Space Program 1.2: Loud & Clear release date and more!
Rocketscience101 replied to UomoCapra's topic in 2016
Are you talking to me? I'm not trying to be rude, but I've been here since .13 back in 2012. I feel I've stretched beyond KSP jedi. I am more reaching towards KSP zen, trying to find my perfect KSP inner piece and complete myself before I die, so I can go off and be one with the KSP, and fly alongside Jebediah forever in the KSPs. lol.- 418 replies

I love arguing with people about the moon landings legitimacy. Yes Argue with me, the man who owns a space jacket with all the Apollo lunar missions, 1-17 on it, the man who when you go to his room, is like walking into a science fiction crap pile of ship models, spacecraft sketches, a couple of spacesuits, several real patches. Who's library consists of 95% nonfiction books on space exploration and astronomy, 5% science fiction. A man who spent over 12 years of his life studying space exploration, physics and history, at the expense of other grades. Who's free time consists of theorizing new ways to cheaply and effectively travel through space. Ask complex questions about life, and design rockets, satellites and space capsules, builds model rockets, flies model airplanes, and has written basically every report in his school on some form of space travel, if he was able to find a way to work it in. Yes, please argue with me, I need a confidence booster.

Kerbal Space Program 1.2: Loud & Clear release date and more!
Rocketscience101 replied to UomoCapra's topic in 2016
Yeah, but it was the same solution we used to do for space shuttle developing, by building the shuttle in the SPH, then moving the craft file to the VAB. Which was bipassed when they added the option to select which hangar to load from. Besides, this is aeronautical and space development shouldn't everything be as streamlined as possible.- 418 replies

Kerbal Space Program 1.2: Loud & Clear release date and more!
Rocketscience101 replied to UomoCapra's topic in 2016
I understand what y'all are saying, and would like to than you for being respectful about it. I agree now. but I don't feel it should happen yet. The community is still growing, and there is still more room for improvement. If they keep minor updates free, I'll be cool, and make the major ones relatively reasonable so that we can all afford them and they are able to make a profit, I'll be content with it. Now back to the hype. I really like the new layout of the debug menu. It'll make it so much easier to produce videos, and test vehicles in sandbox, but I really want a system so that I can design a craft in sandbox, and test it, then move the craft file over to my career mode game, so I don't have to rebuild the ships after testing them.- 418 replies

Kerbal Space Program 1.2: Loud & Clear release date and more!
Rocketscience101 replied to UomoCapra's topic in 2016
I would much rather see them develop a new game, to open a new franchise then have us pay for things that have come free up until this point. They would have greater success with a new game, especially with all the development experience they now have from KSP, and have now gotten their feet wet in the video games market, giving them a recognized developer boost. Like Mojang, Valve, and even Bunji.- 418 replies

Kerbal Space Program 1.2: Loud & Clear release date and more!
Rocketscience101 replied to UomoCapra's topic in 2016
I personally, do not feel a game should have to resort to paid DLC or paid updates if they constantly give good and new content with every new major update. As the game expands, they can increase the price ever so slightly, to make a little more money for the new content, and offer the updates for free as they have always done to those whom have already paid. I can see expansion packs, going into sections of possibilities that wouldn't be generally considered for the vanilla game. But I wouldn't want to see KSP turned into another cash cow of the video game industry. Increasing support for the game, and better updates, with better advertisement will increase profits better than offering something that used to be, or would have usually been, a free update, or mod, to those whom have already paid. Again expansions, things that might add things such as ocean topography, biomes, and underwater science expansions, a weapons and war expansion, adding an ever expanding, and hostile enemy space program that career has you launch attacks against, and will penalize you if you don't get to certain achievements, i.e. orbit, to the mun, or Duna before them, or a realistic Space Program expansion, allowing you to have full size earth and solar system, with properly scaled rocket parts, and models of astronauts instead of kerbals, I would gladly pay for a few of those. But having part expansions that would often be part of the vanilla game, planetary system expansions, and aerodynamic, or physics updates, disguised as "expansions" I would not be ok with. An expansion pack should be something similar to what a modder will add, but take it to a level that will either make the version with the expansion both unique, and still the same game, so each update would not remove the expansion, and possibly add to it. So to clarify, since I sorta rambled a bit. Expansion packs, that add a new feature to the game, that either doesn't fit the main games theme or changes the way the game is usually paid, are ok, because they are optional. But DLC or expansions that have content that the community has been accustomed to receiving in the free updates is most definitely not ok. If anything else, SQUAD can always invest in producing another game, and build a new community around that to continue to make a profit. It would be yet another expensive undertaking, but as long as they did not neglect their current major games project, and properly utilized the skills and experiences they had gained from the development of KSP, they not only will, but I see very little doubt that they cannot succeed. I believe this because of the track record KSP has set for SQUAD as a developer. With only one game being developed at the moment, and incredible success from it, anything they put their name behind may struggle to fail, unless it is a truly horrible project with no effort or care put in.- 418 replies

I'm gonna need to see a 3 scenario in flight tests, 1. At 1,000 meters traveling at standard low altitude slow speeds 2. At 5,000 meters, traveling > the speed of sound 3. At 10,000 meters traveling > the speed of sound, to simulate SSTO emergency situations. Otherwise its an interesting pad test system.

Kerbal-Kon 2016- Let's Do This, For Real This Time
Rocketscience101 replied to kenbobo's topic in The Lounge
Can we have kerbalcon at the Kennedy Space center some time. I haven't been in so long and would love to go and meet people just as enthusiastic about space travel as I am. We could hold it in either the rocket garden, or the Saturn V museum. We could have devs, community members and astronauts speak at the event. The goodybag could contain a poster of Jeb Bob and Bill in the Apollo 11 style 3 crew photo, and Valentina in a classic astronaut pose. Have 3d models of kerbals, a model rocket designed like the semi large srb, and a series of squad and NASA patches. If we have to, I am almost certain the community would be more than happy to help fund it. I now I would and would still be willing to fork over the price of admission. -
People who joined back in 2011: are any of you still here?
Rocketscience101 replied to Panichio's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I joined around .13. I think it was closer to 2012, but it may have been late 2011. -
Update. I have the spacesuit that I am going to use. Will post pictures, after I learn how to type better with these gloves on.

Well I have none of those and this is legit. I am attempting to complete this. I just haven't had the time to make the videos yet.

Ok so this is a project that I have been working on for a while, and have recently begun working within it. I'm still working on a couple things, but I have outlined a good idea of what I'd like to do with it. So to explain, I have been working on an astronaut training program, or more or less searching for one. Since I have always wanted to be an astronaut and have a ton more free time since I graduated from high school, I decided to start working on the details. I'm going to document my progress with this on Youtube, and livestream some of my missions on twitch. I just need to know that people are gonna want to watch it. Just so you all know, I am working on both a workout, mind building, and simulation program, that uses KSP and some other games. How it works is simple. You set yourself on a schedule like an astronaut. Or try and set one. This schedule should include, workouts, education, and simulation time. The workouts don't have to be to tough. Currently I run around 3-4 miles a day, and do push ups in the mornings and crunches before bed. This rounds out my workout and helps me build what I lack in muscle mass. My last run was kind of great because I was able to complete it before my time constraint ran out. The education doesn't have to be anything fancy. Go to Youtube, and search what you want to learn. Take notes, and subscribe to their channel. Learn math, science, or history. No tests or quizzes, just study what you want. Finally simulations. Plan out a mission for yourself, and pick a game that would most suit that mission. For example, you want to go to an orbiting space station. There are several games including KSP that would adequately simulate going to a space station or you can build your own in KSP. Plan and train yourself for a mission to the station. Put yourself into orbit, practice the maneuvers needed to get an encounter, and practice docking. If you want to you can also practice reentry and landing. Missions are another important step in this. Missions are sort of rewards and can take many forms. The first obvious one is you livestream or just play out your mission. No using timewarp during an actual mission. So if your going to the mun, you better be ready to sit there for a couple days or plan on doing other things while you wait. You don't have to livestream. I will be for mine, and am planning my first actual mission close to January time. But do not have a current date. Another form of mission can be a simulated space road trip. This requires you have a car, a tent or other things, and a spacesuit costume. How it works is you pick a destination, say a camp site in the forest. You drive there, living either out of your car or in a tent. Reach your destination, have some fun, doing EVA's and science experiments. Then drive back. Catch is every time you go outside, you have to wear the spacesuit. And you have to act like your on a space mission. And finally the last mission type is a space themed vacation. Travel to either a local air and space museum. Go to one of the major ones or a NASA center. Just enjoy your time there, and learn something. Missions are achievements. So when you've reached a certain goal. Than you can go off to the next achievement, and enjoy a reward for it. So I'm just curious if anyone would like to watch me attempt this. I will post a link to my channel in the future, but I want to know if people will watch it, and if you want to do it as well, go right ahead. This is designed to better yourself, and have a little fun. Thank you. Have a good.

I don't believe its a scam, although I don't like all the media attention its getting for one reason, it is seen as a joke. Some things I find wrong with their plan. 1. Its to big of a leap. I know coming from a massive space enthusiast, and someone who almost applied himself, and still may in the future if some success is seen, it is still to ambitious. I agree that NASA, with its government funding has been going to slow with this mission, but jumping straight to a colonial mission from the get go, sending people to never return, is a little out there. They could just as easily develop a Mars Direct style mission to go along with their current goals. 2. A non return mission. I hit a little bit of this on my first point. But I feel that the most important part of having a mars mission, is the return, not for the glory, or fame, but for science, and for those doing the mission. Although as we have seen that there are several people willing to spend the rest of their lives on Mars, I do not see them lasting as long as they hope to under the current mission plan. 3. Not having secured a launcher+date. This is a big one. There are only so many launch vehicles capable of sending their payloads to Mars, and you can only Launch at a certain time to get there. Not having either pre set up before selecting crew is a risking move. And as anyone who plays KSP knows, risks are apparent in space travel, but never should you risk it on a launch vehicle, or date before you select your crew. 4. The kind of people this attracts. Specifically for the astronaut selection. Two kinds of people have come out of the woodwork. Failed astronauts, or people who dreamed of space travel, but due to physical, mental, or psychological reasons, where unable to. To clarify, when I say mental reasons, I mean they didn't have the grades. It also brings out fame seekers. Those who just want it for the glory of having their name remembered. Now, based on this list, who is most likely to get selected. Fame seekers are. They are not gonna be the people, who really want to die on Mars. It was a in the moment decision to sign up, and if selected, they have until that rocket leaves the ground to change their mind. Which they won't do because of all the media attention. They are going to be proud, gloating and seem all ready to go, but under the pressure of the real thing, will break the easiest. 5. Self Sustainability. An important part of developing a colony is having self sustainable life support, food, water and electricity. Most of which are not possible on a large enough scale that Mars one is proposing. It may seem small. but once again, they have no launch vehicle and no launch date. I remember nasa had announced the launch of Orion on an orbital mission over one year ahead of the launch. I now the launch date for curiosity was selected long before construction even began. So since it is obvious the crew has to have supply, not only does the mission not have how they are going to deliver supplies to the crew, but they have no time plan from when certain supplies are going. Now they may say they are going to use the Falcon heavy. If they are, than they need to begin developing the supply drops at the same time as they are developing the manned missions. Overall right now the plan seems to have been developed based on the SpaceX dragon promotional video showing the Dragon as capable of landing on Mars with it's draco engines. Then the rest of the mission designed around it. While it is a good plan, it is incomplete, especially with the time frame they have set up. So in conclusion. No I don't think its a scam. I just don't have absolute confidence in them.

What is your favorite "I did it!" Moment?
Rocketscience101 replied to Sgt.Shutesie's topic in KSP1 Discussion
When I first landed on Duna. I suck at interplanetary manouvers so getting into orbit around duna was a huge deal for me. I brought it with a small apollo style lander, that went down to the surface. All of this was in career mode before currency was enabled. I gathered a huge load of science, and went back into orbit to transfer the crew to the return vehicle and head home. I made it back to Kerbin and splashed down in the ocean. I realized something was wrong when I got into Kerbins SOI though. I had forgotten to transfer the science to the return vehicle. All the surface science was on lander still in orbit around Duna. So to collect it I sent my asteroid recovery craft to grab it and bring it into orbit around kerbin. I never did achieve that, an update came a while later. but just getting to and returning from duna was an achievement I will always remember. -
Veteran players reminisce: What was your first Munar landing like?
Rocketscience101 replied to Tex's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Well my first few attempts where back in 0.13. We didn't have any encounter warning system so when you burned you burned till you made it to almost above the mun's orbit. When I encountered I was always over eager with my landings, and since most of my Pe's where on the night side of the mun, I always came down at night. When I was coming down, it was impossible to tell how far you where from the surface, so I would often pancake jeb bob and bill into the surface thinking that I had made it more than a kilometer or much more up. It wasn't until I would look at my navball and see me gaining speed would not be able to slow it down in time. Soon I figured out how to enter orbit, and pick my landing sites. But it wasn't until I downloaded some of my first mods, those that gave me landing legs, was I able to land, and until .14 that I was able to build one that would return. -

what kind of ksp DLC would you like?
Rocketscience101 replied to Roderik's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
none If you intended it to be in the game, do not release it separately, put in the full game on release or in a free future update. -
Wether or not the universe is infinite, it is still expanding, and expanding at such a rate, that humans will not in the near future reach the edge of the universe, and the actual edge of the universe is not defined, I'm sure it means areas where there are galaxies stars and planets, and while there is an edge away from them, the galaxies are all moving away from each other, so that the empty space is now taken up by the universe. One of my favorite was something I heard from Neil Degras Tyson, in Cosmos. An old Greek philosopher theorized that, if you stood at the edge of the universe, and fired an arrow, one of two things would happen, 1. It would fly straight on, or 2. it would hit a wall. For 1. if it continued to fly straight, than you had not reached the universe, and if it never stopped, than the universe is infinite, or 2. if it hit a wall, then what you perceived as the edge of the universe was wrong, and you would move to that edge and try the experiment again, and continue with that experiment, with only those two options happening. Which meant that the universe must be infinite.
