  1. I had never heard of AR-1! It looks like what appear to be the gimbal mechanisms are Stephen Canfield's trio-tristar carpal robotic wrist joints, do you know if they are?
  2. My guess: our best hope is a fast flyby launched by SLS Block IB in the late 2040s.
  3. If you're adding rings to the tank texture, FYI only the fuel tank uses ring-and-stringers, the LOX tank is monocoque, with no rings. Incidentally, the fuel tank is also where the logo would be painted, because once it's fueled, the cold LOX tank is covered in frosty condensation.
  4. It's actually she ._. But yes that's what I meant! Honestly I hadn't considered that problem - Procedural Parts and RO have ruined my sense of "standard sizes"! It would just make it a little easier to to use ATV to make nice-looking Nodes.
  5. Can we get the adaptor as part of the service module instead of the MPLM, on ATV?
  6. That's not what the advanced boosters will look like, its just a generic depiction from when the Advanced Boosters Competition was still (technically) on. The SRBs will be ATK's "Dark Knights" four-segment composite solid boosters of the same basic dimensions as the current five-seg SRBs. Most depictions show them with a tapered nose cone and unpainted dark-grey.
  7. It would be pretty complex, but totally worth it! You could choose different fuels, engine cycles, regenerative or ablative cooling, and stuff!
  8. Disregarding politics, all components of formerly-SLS and Orion have been tested successfully, and the stack configuration seems sound. These space vehicles could fly for a long time, and they hopefully will!
  9. Actually, they are berthed to Station because they use Common Berthing Mechanism which doesn't have any guiding or impact-absorbing mechanisms.
  10. I think it was Big Lizard, cause the first Lizard was too small to get onto orbit. My first orbital rocket in RO was Ferret 4.
  11. Energia-M is my fave rocket that never flew </3 Such a pragmatic use of legendary Energia hardware!
  12. That makes sense, except won't it be facing the wrong way? PMA-3 is (will be) on the R-Bar, and PMA-2 faces against the V-Bar!
  13. The latest release works like a charm! I launched my first (semi)successful Moon flyby probe today :3 Hiker 1 at 48 Mm periselene (kind of like the Ranger missions)
  14. RS-88 is the rocket engine Boeing selected as the primary (pusher) launch escape system for CST-100, as well as its OMS. It burns ethanol and liquid oxygen. But part of the commercial crew contract is that the vehicle can stay on-orbit for the duration of the expedition, which is several months, and liquid oxygen is mildly cryogenic, and will boil off over time. That's why Cold War-era missiles (which had to be kept in silos for months at a time) quickly switched to (storable) solid or hypergolic fuel! Is the boil-off rate just low enough to be within tolerance for a deorbit burn following a nominal mission?
  15. It's called Falcon 9 v1.1, which also had both stages stretched. Falcon 9 v1 (the original) flew five times before being retired.
  16. Looks brilliant! CST-100 is so cute, even if it has that generic ugly name! RO configs? <3
  17. Forums are meant for discussion aren't they?
  18. (Emphasis mine) They didn't have to make any allowances!
  19. Those are very practical advantages! (the Soviet lunar mission required multiple cosmonauts, and spacewalks) It also made Voskhod more capable than Gemini, which had dozens of studies about continued use and improvements.
  20. This beautiful mod can't end like this! I may have almost precisely zero experience making textures, but if you are interested, I will try my hardest!
  21. These images were taken with Long Range Reconnaissance Imager which operates at visible wavelengths, just not in color.
