Finally I come to a solution that I'm happy with (I think )... After many aborted launches and modifications... we're green to go... 61 Ton command module arrived at a 400Km orbit with 5% to spare in the last tank (the one at the back - the other tank is full of 'galoobies'). I'll keep the tank in case the next 4 attachments don't arrive on a full tank. Oh yes.. I managed a perfect moon alignment orbit - flaming miracle it is Edt: Checked alignment - OK call me a liar for 0.3 degrees - not bad for manual flight (enjoyed that)

I 'installed' this on the Kerbal OPM-V1.5 version, but not quite sure which mod it was Does RSS have something similar, or does the same mod work here... and of course which mod is it ? Thanks for help Col
-
The RSS graphics look to be a bit wobbly... Anyway.. launching my station into orbit.. And the first docking bit... https://www.dropbox.com/s/ow5o4q12x00jxin/KSP_StationDocking.mp4?dl=0

I was wondering if aerodynamic resistances had kicked in yet ! But I'll do that anyway.

It took a few tries to get it right... My space station parts we coming in between 45-65 tons a piece, and I wanted to achieve a 600-1000km orbit. .. so thinking I just put a few large rockets together and it'll be OK... HAR HAR!! First rocket me - neat slick but only up to 200Km and no orbit.. Try something different... well no difference.. OK alright If I have to do big.. then I'll do it.. (not my prettiest invention but I was getting desperate ) ...got into the neighbouring country (they were upset), but no orbit:huh: Have a rest... next day try a different angle... Whoopie.. into orbit at around 400Km+ .. but had to use my station fuel to achieve this.. (I need this fuel when the ship station is built) Geez man!! How big do i have to go.. Look at the internet, Apollo project. WOW! Saturn-V weighing in a 3.8 million Oh.. very well.. let's make the Mother of all Rockets (I need a bigger VAB) Weighing in at 3.4 million.. I present the perfect 'weight shifter' 700KM orbit and all my station fuel still on board..:)
-
Thanks 'Change Root tool' maybe it'll make things easier - I'll look at this What I've discovered, is that you can diddle the part file (it's just a text file) If this introduces bugs.. I'm not sure, but I've fiddled this without any problems so far The sub-assemblies look like this .. and the saved ships look like this
-
Maybe I've missed something here. With a clear VAB, when loading a sub-assembly first, one cannot add any parts to it. It seems one has to load a menu part first, then add the sub-assembly to this. Is there any way to enable the sub-assembly as a 'first part' then stick other bit's to this ? Thanks The Colonel

Spent long hours trying various configs just to get a few 'Km's down the road'. Eventually I 'invented' a 2-stage monster just to get the first part of my station into orbit. I nearly ran my station fuel dry just to get orbit.. but that OK as I'm going to send up more fuel.. 2nd stage burning.. You have no idea what a pleasure it is to see this !!! Must sort out the cockpit screens... What can I say... Station cruising

Just Released: KlonksWorks are happy to announce that the three Kerbinauts (Gernie, Kirsy and Ronmore) that went to Mun, and Minmus have all returned safely. It was an outstanding trip with one Anomaly site visited on each moon. KlonksWork's CEO, ColKlonk, reported that 'We were very excited about these two visits, but sadly there is nothing unsual to report. Soil samples and rocks have been brought back for analysis, as we trust that our high tech scanners have detected something. We kindly ask the public to now respect Gernie, Kirsy and Ronmore's privacy after such an enduring voyage. We are very proud of them and their families wish to be alone with their new heroes Thank you all for sharing in this voyage and there will be plenty more in the future " Pictures of the moon anomaly sites Ronmore at Mun Kirsy on Minmus

Klonkworks Press Release: With only a +1.9 degree node adjustment at Kerbin... Gernie, Kirsy and Ronmore fly down the 'Valley of the Gods' at 10Km. These, ladies and gentlemen.. are skilled Kerbinauts. Mission Control will be soon revealing the first anomaly landing site, which is most likely to be on Mun's equator. Released here in a short recording filmed by Ronmore's 'selfie camera'. https://www.dropbox.com/s/6al5raczrhwhmif/ValleyOfTheGods.mp4?dl=0 (18MB) Or download https://www.dropbox.com/s/6al5raczrhwhmif/ValleyOfTheGods.mp4?dl=0

No please don't do that, I had the Kerbonauts walk into my office and threaten to resign, if I don't put a big rocket under their rear-ends and send them to the Mun I was wondering what type of rocket they were talking about, but you know these 'right stuff' green guys.. they seem to think there's never any shadows behind them. We had an emergency meeting and showed them the scan maps of Mun and Minmus, and the anomalies detected. We explained that the plan had changed somewhat , that we needed to find out what the anomalies were, and that 'only manned flight' could do that. When asked whether they could land on a pin-point target, it was like a circus of little children. But anyway they happy about this and somehow they'd lost their resignation papers !!

With only 2 'minor' glitches to contend with, mission #1 has been accomplished The mothership, yesterday, finally arrived at it's final orbit at Minmus. There was a slight delay in the route traveled, due to KW launching out of the transfer window, however our engineering staff minimised fuel usage with time, with great success. The mothership is now using it's long range transmitter to target the inner planets of the system. In this case Eve is the current target Minmus Orbital approach Orbit established.

Had two slight problems.. 1) Forgot to disable the crossfeed (I'm a twat) 2) Somehow couldn't separate the satellite from the faring Cancel the above flight (amazing what you can do in the 'future') Do some testing.. with interesting results.. 381 tons just vanished So all is ok .. Back to where we were => in orbit 4x Satellite launches around Kerbin. Having done that let's 'trot' along to Mun. All comms look well covered. A nice pic before launching the last two satellites..

Developing Duna (pic heavy) - ^_^ with Part 11 ^_^
ColKlonk replied to Brotoro's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
:) Some nice ideas there.. I like those 'trashcans' on wheels.. I've mistakenly made a re-entry discovery.. - If you come in (retrograde) with you rockets on, you can reduce the re-entry heat buildup. -
KW have been planning and developing this mission for some years now and today is 'D-Day'. The mission outline is to put remote communication satellites around, firstly Kerbin, then Mun and lastly Minmus. These satellites will facilitate control communications to all ships exploring these two moons and later, as KW moves onto bolder projects to the more distant planets. Mun and Minmus are to be the testbeds of KW's space technologies Once KW has established conditions and prospects remotely, manned missions will be sent to the most 'lucrative' (did I say greed ) planets. The satellite that has been 5 years in development: - A sufficiently large supply of fuels to place it in nearly any orbit of the target planet - 4 solar panels that will supply more than enough power for all instruments - 1x short range (10MKm) comms 'whip' aerial for local control - 2x medium range (40MKm) directional aerial for comms between the planets and transferring ships. The multipurpose mothership (rocket) coming in at 371 tons of 'high explosive'. Starting at the top: - 1x long range (400MKm) directional aerial (once the ship has finished it's main mission the secondary mission will be to send it as far as possible to the outer planets) - 4x medium range (40MKm) directional aerials - 2x short range (10MKm) 'whip' aerials for local area comms - 1x Remote control unit The latest in KW remote control technologies - 1x large battery backup pack - 4x large solar panels - 4x body solar panels - 6x satellite containers housing the satellites to be put into planetary orbit - 340 tons of rocket fuels It was a wonderful quiet, crisp morning at launch time... then the sound of sweet thunder of the new era ! First stage is dropped as fuel tanks run dry.. Chasing the sun into the heavens.. Second stage is dropped.. Aiming for 400km.. The critical task was to get into orbit before control communication was lost ( = lost ship). This was achieved within 12 minutes of launch - everyone at mission control was relieved :) We're in orbit with plenty fuel.. 'This ship is going far'!! More later... must do some real work now !!

They make nice Remotes ??

Big Brother spy probes :) - Geostationary orbits
ColKlonk replied to ColKlonk's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Getting better all the time. This time I wrapped the satellites into a capsule - This'll work nicely when/if V1.0 come with aerodynamic forces and friction. At the moment I'm doing everything manually.. Toned down all the decoupling forces.. Decoupling... Takes about a minute or two to get away from the ship - nice-n-slow Too powerful a charge and it blows all the equipment to pieces Pop all the other pieces off.. And we're ready for launch.. -

Oh OK.. still learning !! Thanks -
Big Brother spy probes :) - Geostationary orbits
ColKlonk replied to ColKlonk's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Dumped all 6 probes.. phew! what a mission to get the orbits just right.. Something has to be done about those jumping peri and apo points. This should cover Kerbin.. we've got your every move 4 satellites in the equatorial plane, 2 at opposite angles That remote computer is very valuable you know... it must come back!! Just as well these things float.. also close enough to KSC to be picked by rowing boat. - - - Updated - - - -
Thought I'd try out the geostationary stuff. The whole lot is remote controlled Making the 'sky-truck' - looks like something out of a James Bond movie A future idea (excuse the pun) for probing the outer planets First satellite is on it's way from the mothership. The different orbits - 1st probe in position just above KSC (good for remote control of other rockets) and so the 'spying'.. err!! Communcation begins I think I'll extend this idea into the current system.. nice cheap way of exploring. 'Manned' flight will come later.

Help with ALCOR and RPM
ColKlonk replied to nicogusuarez's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Looks like that in the initialisation (or other) part of the mod, the procedure that initialises the 'Object' is receiving a zero value (0 = NULL) instead of a reference to an initialised Object. (if that makes sense ) It could be that one of the many objects that are being initialised if failing. When a function in software fails, it usually returns a NULL (zero) value, but most programmers don't check this, and use the return value (zero in this case) as an object reference. The system then catches the error, so one is generally in the dark of exactly where the error occurred - statistical experience of the error helps resolve it Do you have enough memory. Are all the parts/objects installed..etc, OR it could be referencing something from another mod. CFG files.. Reinstall the mod - files might be over-written by some mods? -
Shrinking parts ?
ColKlonk replied to ColKlonk's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
That's my editing 'highlighter' I have TweakableEverything mod installed. It's not game damaging.. but I'll look at the config files Thanks
