About to do a Minmus flyby and i haven't unlocked a heatshield for my Mk1-2 (3seats) capsule. If i do multiple passes and follow a shallow enough re-entry profile, can i make it back to Kerbin ?
-
You are going too fast at launch : try lowering the throttle a bit, or better, remove 2 radial engines so that your thrust is qtill good and you will have less mass, hence more deltaV. And try using a gimballed engine on your 2nd stage to have more control, here you used the LV30, wich just won't do for a 2nd stage in this configuration. And overall, start your gravity turn sooner ! And in order not to flip over, do not deviate from your prograde marker too much. (with that you should be able to get it in orbit)
-
Yeah i must say that i am quite happy with the kerbal being randomly either attached to the ladder or not attached but floating by. In 0.90.0 it was either attached or thrown into outer space at 30m/s....

Landing gear attachments.
Hcube replied to Brownhair2's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I don't have this problem, and i'm thinking you might be coming in too hard. Try flaring harder before touchdown to get a very slow vertical velocity, and you should be fine, whatever the size of your ship is. -
Attitude control of Kerbals on EVA
Hcube replied to Lorunification's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I wish the EVA controls were the same as ship controls : same keys for pitch, yaw and roll(QWASDE), and also the same for translation (IJKL...) That would be so much simpler... Its very annoying not to have a "pitch" for kerbals in EVA -
Yes, the Round-8 is in the "ion propulsion" node... They must have forgotten to change it back after they decided it would stay LFO. I don't remember seeing this patched in 1.0.1

I'm gonna try it, hopefully it's only 1 flight. If not, then i'll be tricked because the price that the tourist pays is totally not enough for 2 rocket launches Thanks
-
hey, i was just proposed a contract with one tourist that wants both a suborbital flight and an orbital flight. Is this : 1) a bug and iwont be able to complete it ? 2)normal, and i just have to orbit (first suborbital, then circularize) to get twice as much money ? I didnt accept it yet cause im not sure. Anyone knows ? Thanks

Aerospike Nerfed too hard.
Hcube replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Did you mean nerfed ? -
^This. Really. A "show thermal overlay" toggle. That is what we need, along with the alarm, so that we dont have to have to overlay ON most of the time to check if everything is ok, just check when the alarm goes off to see what parts are overheating. Alarm only : not precise enough. Overlay only : you would have to keep it on all the time to be sure everythibg is nominal. Both : Perfection (IMO) None : what we have now !

Shoddy Job with the VAB/SPH...
Hcube replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I'd rather say bugged. Useful, sure (i do like it) but bugged. About the list that uses a scroll only for half a line of text not fitting: 100% agree. It also bothers me a lot... maybe resuce the font size could help ? The clouds : we will get them some day anyway. Tis only a matter of time i guess. cant talk about the grammar errors since english is not my mother language. (i must say i didnt exactly spot them, it all looks fine to me... anyone care to explain ? ) I'd like to see those fixed some day, but right now i think that overall 1.0 is good enough (in fact, it is very good) for us not being too picky about such small things. And there's also the fact that 1.0 arguably includes some pretty major oversights (*cough*, fairings, *cough*, heatshields *cough cough* ) wich are WAY more important IMO. -
Pink Floyd. Very relaxing, and spacey enough to fit with Jeb's space adventures. EDIT : the ksp soundtrack is very good too
-
fairings are in the "aerodynamics" parts in the VAB. Their image in the list looks like a nosecone. In career/science mode, you unlock the fairings theough the aerodynamic/jet nodes.
-
just wondering, what's the surface gravity of Ceres ? I was thinking 0.5 or 1m/s^-2 but is that too much ?
-
Exactly ! Why is there a 2.5m decoupler before you get 2.5m parts ? Why can you get 2.5m tanks without 2.5m engines ? (clusters, maybe but you still cant have a cubic octagonal strut to do them either) This makes no sense at all. it is the first thing i saw when looking at the tech tree. How does this kind of stuff pass through experimentals ? I wonder.
-
There's a difference between trial and error and having a part that you cannot use because you need another one too. In this case the "OMG so kerbal" is not even okay since you just cannot use the stayputnik without a fairing... wich is VERY far down the tech tree. Whats the point of even having it ? there is no way you can "do it differently" and thats what bugs me at least our civilization figured out that fragile probes do not withstand airflow very well when going at roughly 1000m/s EDIT : plus, you have to unlock "aviation" to research fairings, wich makes no sense : if i want to make rockets and probes early on, i still have to purchase those jet engines ! This is very annoying. Why are fairings in the same node as wings . its not like im gonna use any on my spaceplanes
-
It's all in the title. I like it better than the previous one, but some things are still...err...derpy. Why do we get a probe before we can even get a fairing to launch it ? U_U +Fairings are mixed with the aviation parts in the tree, wich makes no sense... Not gonna use a fairing on a jet, and maybe the player wont want to purchase plane parts at first, but will need fairings ! +Tier 2 node "General construction gives you a rockomax decoupler and a 2.5m decoupler even though you have no 2.5m parts to attach them to yet ! WHY? +and many more, feel free to discuss i hope that the devs will sort this out in 1.0.hotfix

workaround: spam the fins ( mind the CoL / CoM tho )

Tourist wants Suborbital flight on the Sun
Hcube replied to Kerano's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Along with an basic jet engine, obviously. -
What's up with parachutes in 1.0?
Hcube replied to yopeasants's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Can they ? Id like to see that. Can you give pictures/video and steps to reproduce please ? -
It was very hard and painful to watch the video. He is basically misnaming (is that a word ? not sure) jeb, bill and bob, doing a lot of retarded stuff that new players do not even do (tutorials, for squads sake) and i dont think that he even reached space in his video... (not sure,. couldnt stand watching till the end) HOW is this >crap< whorth 1.9 million views ? Even the video editing is ugly
-
they are not OP because they have very slow terminal velocity ; ie its not the fact that 1 chute can slow down a full booster slow enough to land it that is the problem. What makes chutes OP is that you can just open them at like 40km hile re entering at 3500m/s and they will not burn nor tear apart and they will slow you down freaking 25gs very easily. THAT´s what makes the chutes OP

Parachutes need a fix
Hcube replied to cicatrix's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Bu then theres the problem of the new aero : if you launch a basic capsule+heatshield and small chute on a eccentric suborbital flight, the re-entry is pretty steep : while not using the chutes you decelerate WAY too slowly when not using a chute. If you dont open it you hit the sea at 400m/s (and the terminal velocity of the pod is way less!) So if we balance the chutes in a somehow realistic way (make them burn if theres fire and plasma, make them tear apart if you are going at 3000m/s, or if you get 30g) we will not be able to open them before the craft hits the ground !! -
The roll is CRAZY in the new aero. Uncontrollable.
