But there was air and food in North America. Not sure about Mars...
-
Well... The launch and the first day will probably be a joyride (if all goes well) but it's true that when you paid half a million bucks, 3m² of living space with no windows gets old quickly

I suggest you continue this discussion by MP or start a new thread. After all, this thread is about spaceX. It's starting to be very confusing if you guys deviate this much from the subject. On topic : When is spaceX supposed to make an announcement about it ?

Giving the Various Companies More Functions
Hcube replied to Windspren's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Okay, what about the concept of having separate rep bars for each company ? Forget about penalty for moving stuff This idea makes me think of Spore with relationships to maintain... ( It should be WAY less restrictive and invasive than the system in spore wich made the game close to unplayable though) -
Did we really find a "super-"earth" in our Solar System?
Hcube replied to RandomRyan's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Wouldn't something this big be confirmed/infirmed by calculating it's supposed effects on nearby known objects ? Like, can't we just look at Pluto's orbit and look for inconsistencies in its orbit that match the supposés position of that planet ? Just like Le Verrier calculated the position of Neptune before it was seen -
Giving the Various Companies More Functions
Hcube replied to Windspren's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I really really like this idea ! This actually makes much more sense than what's in place right now. But that should not replace the existing rep bar, just be an addition : The general rep bar should still have a role : if you keep failing contracts for companies A and B, company C will be less likely to offer you generous contracts even though you have never failed them. -
I'm pretty sure some countries (no names but i'm sure everyone will know) would not really be super cool to give fusion technology to some other countries...
-
There's never enough energy. It's not coming soon but don't think that it will have no purpose. Just look at the energy consumption augmentation in the last decades... We use more and more energy, and will always need more
-
Well, technically once fusion is doable, there should be absolutely no point in burning coal. How ever i can see developed countries refusing to sell (or impose prohibitive prices) fusion technology to less advanced states that would keep using coal Until then... Some are trying to reduce fossil fuel usage, but not with a lot of conviction :/

The ethical dilemma of self-driving cars
Hcube replied to RainDreamer's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I'm pretty sure this is a small problem hugely compensated by the advantage that self-driving cars have : ideally, once every car is automated, car accidents should drop to almost zero, since the cars can communicate between them, for example one car will tell others that it has a problem and is about to slow down... They do not exceed speed limits and keep the right safety distance (that no one respects nowadays) Etc. Leaving the only accidents to car malfuction, wich actually is a very small fraction of car accidents in the world- 43 replies

This is going off subject. I suggest you open a new thread or MP it.

I doubt cloning a full human being, with lab manipulations, finding a woman to develop it, waiting nine months and then get some hair to put on the crime scene and get rid of the clone would be handy. Yes if someone's DNA is found on a crime scene, it could aswell be his clone, but that's already the same with twins It's actually much more than that, though.
-
It looks like many people in this thread are mistaking "same genome" and "self-copy-that-can-be-genetically-manipulated-to-do-weird-things" A clone of someone is just his twin ! He still has to be raised, educated... It's a normal person Also, everyone talking about "yeah but you could illegally make clones to have them work as slaves or killers etc... --->works with non-cloned people too (and happens everyday). This is not the point of cloning Same for " reviving human race after everyone died"-->a clone doesn't magically come out from a machine ! It's exactly like a normal pregnancy and birth... And finally you can't simply stick some genes into a genome and except the transgenic individual to have new, perfectly working capacities ! Actually, transgenesis is more about shutting down genes than about putting new ones in

What's wrong with the telomeres ?
-
On topic(since we're here already) : I'm convinced fusion will be THE energy solution for the future. Even if it's in 50 or 70 years, i'm sure it's the best and maybe only way to go. I know that Laser Megajoule and Z machine are also doing research on nuclear fusion, but since they are more orientés towards nuclear weapons research i think that ITER is the project that offers the best chances of actually producing energy with fusion If it's a few years late, well... Big deal ?

But that's not random, you actually moved the cursor. When it happens to me i don't touch anything and its self moving. It's a completely different problem !

Just reminding you guys that every table sticks out of the frame on the mobile version... I originally thought it was because of the "enable desktop mode on mobile" but the tables are messed up on the mobile version too, both on Firefox and chrome (Android)

I don't like this forum (at all) for a few simple reasons : 1)the international section was trashed and there doesn't seem to be much will to put it back up : who thought mixing posts in different languages in the same subforum was a good idea ? 2)it's so sterile with 4colors : 2blues, white, and gray. The all-white facebook/apple flat design literally gives me headaches after a while 3)i used to be able to display many posts on my mobile screen (wich is huge) and now i can only display one (if it's short enough !) 4)my cursor randomly moves when i'm typing. It is terrible. I'm spending twice more time as before to write a post because letters disappear, duplicate, whole words change position... Also the BBcode is gone, and i miss it There are some big mistakes like tables sticking out of the frame on the mobile version...

Actually, all of them. Looks a lot like you are pulling those from your pocket without estimating some important factors like increased drag impact for lower mass, etc etc. About hydrogen, a few reasons for why it's impractical in an airport and for rapidly fueling jets : 1) It must be cooled down to 33K. ->expensive new set of tubing for every airport in the world, and since the tubing is often underground... That's some hardwork. It's gonna need MUCH more maintenance because metal tubes don't like having supercold fluids running through them. ->storing a liquid that must be cooled down at 4K sucks. It's gonna need special tanks and you'll need energy to keep it cool (probably much more than what you get from using H2) ->Extra safety measures and protection for all the personnel ! Who wants a frostbite ? 2) It has the nasty habit to invisibly, odorlessly mix with air and explode. How safe is that ? ->the fact that it is so less stable than kerosene and that it tends to detonate for no reason goes against the obsession of safety that rules every airline today ->the flames are invisible ! How practical and handy is that. ->It will asphyxiate you in its gaseous form, guess a leak in the cabin would suck Jet fuel does none of this. It's stable, liquid, warm storable and cheap.

Funny enough, i've never had this problem with vBulletin and now i'm constantly having letters self-duplicating, auto-moving cursor and words disappearing...

Atlas V launch watch live T minus 20 min
Hcube replied to Beatz0121's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Wind is getting stronger, i wouldn't be surprised if the launch was reported a (long) while further. -
Indigenous rights group block telescope construction

I guess it's a place of cult... -
You just made up these numbers didn't you ? The single fact that hydrogen is so dangerous and impractical makes it impossible to use in large scale airliners

When is the launch ?
