High detail NASA probes [DEV THREAD]
clivman replied to clivman's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Imagination yes, imagination that they work, imagination that they are the right size, imagination that the carrier rocket is not wobbling 20 degrees. I used to do replicas in stock until I realized this. They will be stock when Tweakscale and KJR are incorporated into the game as they should be. Also, I'd rather provide 200 people with high quality replicas rather than 1000 with bad stock ones. I don't mean anything against you or your replicas by this, but only a few craft are able to have both the correct scale and be highly detailed, such as your Constellation Mission. -
This is the release thread for my NASA probe replicas made by Duna Aerospace. These crafts use Tweakscale and Kerbal Joint Reinforcement All of these come with launchers and are correct scale. Images of the launchers are at the bottom of the page. Clementine Clementine was a spacecraft similar to LADEE in shape that was the first US probe to the moon after the Apollo missions It was launched on a Titan II. 53 parts, costs 21,770 http://kerbalx.com/clivman/Clementine MAVEN MAVEN is a mission to study the Martian atmosphere, it was launched on an Atlas V 401 63 parts, costs 50,389 http://kerbalx.com/clivman/MAVEN 2001 Mars Odyssey 2001 Mars Odyssey is a Mars Orbiter named after the 2001 a space odyssey movie, it is still orbiting today and was launched on a Delta II. 70 parts, costs 33,335 http://kerbalx.com/clivman/2001-Mars-Odyssey Mars Climate Orbiter Mars climate orbiter was a mission to study Mar's climate from orbit, it was famously lost due to a metric versus standard units error. It was launched on a Delta II. 76 parts, costs 34,197 http://kerbalx.com/clivman/Mars-Climate-Orbiter LADEE LADEE was a mission to study the moons dust "atmosphere", it was recently deorbited and crashed into the moon. It was launched on a Minotaur V. 77 parts, costs 25,015 http://kerbalx.com/clivman/LADEE Mars Exploration Rover- Spirit/Opportunity Spirit and Opportunity were two identical Mars rovers, Opportunity is still running today. They were both launched on a Delta II. 141 parts, costs 33,830 http://kerbalx.com/clivman/Mars-Exploration-Rover Mars Pathfinder/Sojourner rover Mars Pathfinder landed the Sojourner rover on Mars, leading the way in a new set of Mars missions. It was launched on a Delta II. 142 parts, costs 36,764 Use reaction wheels to pull Sojourner away from Pathfinder. http://kerbalx.com/clivman/Mars-Pathfinder Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is a 2005 Mars Orbiter with a main mission of photographing Mars. It was launched on an Atlas V 401 67 parts, costs 54,809 1 deploys solar panels You will need to attach and re-dock to the antenna to get it offset, but only do this after completing all major burns do to the offset thrust this will cause. http://kerbalx.com/clivman/Mars-Reconnaissance-Orbiter Phoenix Mars Lander Phoenix Mars Lander was the second mission to visit the Mars' Polar Region, launched on a Delta II, and was the first to succeed in landing. 90 parts, costs 45,209 7 deploys antenna and Robotic arm, 1 deploys solar panels. http://kerbalx.com/clivman/Pheonix Mars Polar Lander Mars Polar Lander was the first mission to visit the Mars' Polar Region, launched on a Delta II, sadly the lander crashed due to engine failure. 177 parts, costs 42,240 7 deploys antenna and Robotic arm, 1 deploys solar panels. http://kerbalx.com/clivman/Mars-Polar-Lander Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter + LCROSS Lunar Impactor Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter was a joint mission along with LCROSS to observe the moon from polar orbit launched on an Atlas V 401 75 parts, costs 58,767 http://kerbalx.com/clivman/LRO+LCROSS Curiosity Mars Rover(Mars Science Laboratory) Curiosity is the largest rover landed on Mars to date, this replica comes with an Atlas V 541 Launcher and an aero shell and sky crane landing system. 128 parts, costs 150,870, AG 7 deploys robotic arm. Remember to switch control to cruise phase at beginning of flight as rover is upside down during ascent. http://kerbalx.com/clivman/Mars-Science-Labaratory Dawn Dawn was the first spacecraft to orbit a dwarf planet and the first to explore Ceres. It was launched on a Delta II 83 parts, costs 77,793 http://kerbalx.com/clivman/Dawn New Horizons New Horizons was the first spacecraft to explore Pluto, replica comes with an Atlas V 541 Launcher 127 parts, costs 98,500 http://kerbalx.com/clivman/New-Horizons Juno Juno is a solar powered probe currently headed towards Jupiter, replica comes with an Atlas V 541 Launcher 63 parts, costs 59,475 http://kerbalx.com/clivman/Juno SOHO Solar and Heliospheric Observatory was a joint project between the ESA and NASA launched on an Atlas II. It is now circling L1 Lagrangian point. 87 parts, costs 30,625 http://kerbalx.com/clivman/SOHO Lunar Prospector Lunar Prospector was a NASA moon orbiter launched on an Athena II. 54 parts, costs 12,845 http://kerbalx.com/clivman/Lunar-Prospector

Thanks for the feedback, but I knew it wouldn't get as many downloads with tweakscale and KJR when I started this project and I'm sticking with that decision, plus, as it says on my page, I like building craft that aren't possible in stock.

679. Pay for everything with hundreds of pennies, and keep on re-counting how many you brought.

You might find it easier to just replicate pathfinder, as sojourner is so small it's not possible in stock. -
They have tweakscale- in stock you can either have high detail or correct scale and functionality. I wanted both.
-
No they are designed for looks and functionality and so I do not use heavy science equipment unless it looks right on the probe. My Dawn replica has quite a few working instruments but these just have dummy ones. Edit: Also Now I just need Cassini

Thanks for the feedback, MER is already shrunk considerably (it fits in a 1.5m aero shell) but I'll shrink the body more and add more detail while keeping the solar panels. -
Design Goals of Multiplayer

Agree with everything here, besides the no ownership part, you should be able to choose if it's a joint mission or your mission -

But since when do propeller engines have anything to do with spaceflight? -
I'm so bored. Does anyone need anything built?
clivman replied to a topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
You can put as much weight as you can into it's cargo bay and that awesome shuttle will still get to orbit. -

Fog to enhance terrain texture.
clivman replied to CaptainTurbomuffin's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
You tried World of Warships yet? It uses a similar concept and looks and performs amazing. -
Does Sojourner count as a mini-craft?

Laythe was planned to be volcanically active and I believe Eeloo was supposed to have geysers. As for Tylo, it's hard enough already.

Spend Science to Upgrade Parts!
clivman replied to GeneralVeers's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
But you can change the stats in the craft file of certain parts(thrust, fuel percentage) to over 100%. Maybe you could only upgrade the engine or part on one craft, which would also make people want to reuse the same rocket like in rl. -
A bigger NERVA
clivman replied to Kuu Lightwing's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Thrust scales linearly. So it would have less TWR. What we need is a stock nuke cluster for 2.5m
