  1. Wait. Why did they have to get permission from anyone to land something on the Moon? Nobody owns the Moon, there's no authority to ask. Is it just a matter of checking with other organizations to avoid hitting their satellites and stuff?

  3. Welcome! It's great to see the community keeps growing.
  4. Hi and welcome! I will give you some useful advice that took me a really long time to figure out. A. In the bottom right of the VAB and SPH screen (at least on computer version) is the staging. It goes from bottom to top and you can drag its components around to change the staging order. B. When you are at a maneuver, start the burn at half of the predicted burn time from the point at which your maneuver is scheduled. Like if it says it should take 22 seconds, start the burn 11 seconds before the maneuver says to start. That way the burn is centred on its scheduled time and is about the most accurate (since the mass of the ship changes as fuel is burnt and leaves it, it's not 100% exact, but whatever). C. Um... well, actually, I don't have a third piece of gaming advice. I'll update this post if I can think of one.
  5. Eastern Great Lakes. This summer's been really dry so far, it's rained maybe 40 to 60 seconds in the last two weeks, with a total of one major rain since summer started, if I recall correctly. It got up to 307 K on one occasion, but mostly hangs around 300 in the day. Last winter was really warm and dry compared to the average. We got like a week in which it got really cold, though, one location sort of near me got to 229 K including the wind chill. That was February 3, I think. Felt like a return to the few years before that, because 2014-15 and 2013-14 were really cold. Sometime in March this year, before the spring started, it got to 289 K one day, which was very surprising to me because it would be the most extreme temperature range of a season I can remember. If you include the wind chill, the effective temperature, it's a difference of sixty degrees K. That's bloody ridiculous. There was a big snowstorm in March, the only one this year. Right now it's cloudy and I'm hopeful. I like the winter better because you can do something about the cold. Not the heat. Besides, it's so much more energy intensive to cool things down than to heat them up. A few years ago there was a tornado. It did some damage to an amusement park in my city but not much else. In the winter, I find myself wishing it was summer, that I could go out there and breathe the air without discomfort and walk around without wrapping myself in fifty billion garments and end up looking like a sumo wrestler. In the summer, it's the opposite. EDIT: It's raining. Hallelujah. SECOND EDIT: Oh, by the way, I don't usually describe temperature in terms of degrees Kelvin, but someone in this thread did it and I thought it was cool so I did it.

  7. The rest can be explained by a bunch of pictures. The rescue OAV is on the launchpad. The rescue OAV ascending: And now it has reached orbit. The rescue OAV burning for the Mun: The rescue OAV arriving at the Mun... ...and entered orbit. Meanwhile, the broken OAV on the ground gets ready to ascend to Munar orbit. The two ships docked in orbit. Helalla Kerman is in front of the docked ships. The Mun's surface is (b)right below them! The two ships undock after everyone has been transferred to the newer one. The old ship begins a deorbit burn. It's no longer usable, and would otherwise become debris. The landscape soaring past below the broken lander will soon be its grave: The abandoned OAV hits the ground. Surprisingly, most of it survived. Then that crashed as well. Nothing survived on the ground. Meanwhile, the Reentry Module is about to launch. It does the routine burn to orbit. I didn't take any pictures of the progress of the Rescue Ship back to Kerbin. Sorry. But here it docks with the Reentry Module: The Mun is visible out their window in the OAV! The two ships are docked as Kerbin waits below. The last space sunset of the mission is seen now: We thought that was the last celestial event, but then the crew got to see its last Moonrise: The first reentry flames appear. The reentry flames are shaped like the Reentry Module (and the Reentry Module is now shaped like a mushroom)! Seen from afar, or on the ground, one might mistake it for a meteor. The parachutes won't deploy because the probe core exploded! Helalla, Henrigh, and Sina have to make a jump for it! All three astronauts safely landed in the sea with the help of their jetpacks, slowing their speed from around 45m/s to around 38m/s. They're alive! For now, I'll just leave them there. They can eat the algae that grows on their faceplates The Rescue OAV was directed into a stable, elliptical orbit after undocking for the final time. I'm going to attempt a direct descent of the Rescue OAV into the atmosphere in the hopes of getting to retrieve it. Usually it makes it, but after we lost one Kerbal I'm taking no chances with the rest. Originally the plan was to bring them to the Mun Colony Ship to stay while the Reentry Module was set up and launched and stuff, but I decided it was pointless, and I should just dock it to the Rescue OAV directly. The Broken OAV is in really tiny pieces on the Mun. The only evidence this landing ever happened was in the Kerbal-remains-covered flag that still stands at the landing site, which I have named Campestris Helalla (Helalla Highlands) after this mission's pilot.
  8. So I have a plan. The OAV, now damaged, is capable of ascent to Munar orbit, but not to Kerbin reentry. It would spin and explode. The OAV will ascend to Munar orbit, dock with another OAV, which will bring them to a vacant 32-kerbal Mun Colony Ship orbiting Kerbin. The broken OAV will deorbit over the Mun and destroy itself on the ground. A reentry module will be sent up to dock with the new OAV which will have to undock from the Mun Colony Ship to dock with the other thing, which will reenter the atmosphere. Going to build the reentry module now. The rest of the Mission Report is in my next post.
  9. Yet Again, Findthepin1 Goes To The Mun And Something Bad Happens I've said it before and I'll say it again. Every time I go to the Mun, something bad happens. So I went to the Mun out of boredom, with the intention of not loading any quicksaves. I sent the standard double-fuel Orbital Activity Vehicle to the Mun to see if it could handle it. I usually use it on Minmus so I don't know if it can still survive the Mun. It used to be able to. So I landed it fine at 3.7 m/s. I sent the kerbals, Helalla, Henrigh, Sina, and Luke out to do stuff on the surface. Luke went out fourth to measure the scientific instruments. He fell off the side of the lander, hit a landing leg, Krakened out, destroyed the landing leg, and died. After I got over my initial shock, I realized I should start taking pictures. This is the lander after Luke died. I'm gonna find a way to get the rest of them off this evil rock called the Mun. This post is going to be updated, so check in again soon! I was in the VAB and I was scrolling through the list of parts, I found out I could drag the list of parts itself to scroll the opposite direction as in the scroll bar on the right, so I went to pan around my ship in the VAB again and I suddenly found I couldn't. I then tried to pan it with two fingers on the touchpad and then it worked. Did I change a setting somehow? How do I change it back? EDIT: Oh hold on I just realized I have been using the arrow keys for panning the screen the entire time I have played this game, and somehow I forgot. I have been taking a break from KSP, plus I'm exhausted (it's almost 11pm at the time of writing) and my brain must be weirding up. Sorry
  12. They are quite biodiverse, even for Earth And Europa. And Ganymede. And Enceladus. And Triton? And Callisto? And Pluto?
  13. Canadian here. I play on sandbox, I don't go to the Mun anymore, I have a bad habit of launching motherships for giant interplanetary missions and then just leaving them there, and I don't use spaceplanes. With Kerbals, I went to Dres once and Duna maybe 3 times, Gilly once, Minmus like 8 times, the Mun 3 times, and Ike once. I'm working on a mission to Jool, where the colonists land on minor moons and get data from robotic probes landed on the bigger moons. When I do Duna missions I choose Kerbals with real names. I still spend more time on the forums than playing the actual game.

Subsurface liquid magma: Mercury?, Venus, Earth, Mars?, Io ---------------------------- Place where temperature is between 0 and 50 degrees Earth surface equatorial, sometimes temperate Mars surface equatorial (occasionally) Venus atmosphere ~52.5km-58km equatorial, temperate, sometimes? polar Mercury surface at terminator ---------------------------- Atmosphere at closest temperature to 20°C Titan: 1.45 atm, -179°C Mars: 0.006 atm, 20°C Earth: 1 atm, 20°C Venus: 0.48 atm, 20°C ----------------------------- To find the most habitable things let's choose the ones that have atmospheres and can be at 20°C somewhere on or above them, that's Earth, Venus, and Mars. Now we want to rule out atmospheres that are too thin to keep something alive. That takes out Mars, with half the planet's surface being below the triple point of water. We're left with Earth and Venus. Now water. Venus has no liquid water but Earth does. So, Earth wins. I suppose this serves as a list of things with water as well.

  18. I believe, that if it is the Magic Boulder, it will appear as either a ship or a celestial object in HyperEdit. I'll check that. WAIT! It could also be the Duna radio thing! EDIT: Nope, the Magic Boulder doesn't appear in HyperEdit. Speaking of HyperEdit, I just crashed KSP trying to put Vall into a 200000-km orbit around Vall.

Given the estimate of 210 civilizations having existed since the Milky Way formed, and the Milky Way's age of 13.21 billion years, one can expect a civilization to form once every 62 904 761 years (plus 330 days and 11 hours and 28 minutes and 36.48 seconds, lol). So, about once every 63 million years. So the last civilization before us probably existed just a short time after the extinction of our dinosaurs, and is almost definitely not still here today.
  20. Nobody has really gone to Pol recently, as far as I know. Anyone who has been to Jool before has probably tried to get to Pol, and Pol is unremarkable, so once you've been there, there really isn't a good reason to return. Therefore most people haven't been to Pol in a while and won't know the mountains' status as of 1.1.x.
  21. I made an SSTSTKTSTK (Single Stage To Space To Kerbin To Space To Kerbin). I then decided to attempt to land it using the engines instead of the chute. Had I used the chute, it could have gone to space again. Presuming the Kerbal could have repacked the chute, of course.
