What Are Things You've Heard That Made You Facepalm?
ChrisSpace replied to michaelsteele3's topic in The Lounge
I remember this from the first time I was seriously injured: 'Whats the number for 9-1-1?' Yup, I have awesome friends. -
I have literally waited years for this, 'cant wait to see what the surface looks like. Perhaps a cross between the moon and Europa?

I agree. Like me, most of pewds' subs are ordinary, nice people with a legitimate interest in gaming. We must welcome them in to the forums just like any other gaming enthusiasts. Pewds may have been playing the game with the skill level of a kookaburra pecking the keyboard, but when his fans play KSP they will learn how to actually play the game.

Bonjour et bienvenue sur les forums. Comme vous, je l'ai aussi été timide pour rejoindre les forums, ne vient récemment . (I did a bit of French in middle school)

This is the single best PR stunt squad has ever done. I don't care if pewds has the playing ability of a watermelon rolling over the keyboard. I am hoping he does more KSP. Forget beta, forget 1.0, this is the one true sign squad has succeeded in making Kerbal Space Program With all that said, the question is, what happens now?

It's government is killing less people with airstrikes than the US WDUKA Liberland, the world's newest country?

What I'd do, ordered by realisticness: I'd throw up I'd waste hours identifying every geographic feature on the earth below I'd bring my laptop and play KSP in microgravity I'd bring out my binoculars in the observation deck and spy on all the spy satellites I'd fire an arrow in microgravity and see how far it flies I'd whack a NERVA on the outside of the station, connect it to a fuel tank, and set course for Saturn

What should the first Mars City/Colony be called?
ChrisSpace replied to Fr8monkey's topic in The Lounge
When I first wrote this it was just as a joke, but now I realize this could actually happen... -
Unoriginality.

Ah, the old 'everything will change and we all live happily ever after' trick. If anything, the American regime will become even more militarily focused and even less space focused over the next few decades. I agree, the SLS will suffer from the same fate as the buran or Ares-1X. I do not agree, however, that SpaceX will be the only manned space launcher left. While they will be the only one in North America, China and India will continue to fire people into space long after NASA, the ESA and the Russian space agency become virtually dead. They actually do plan to increase their space budgets, both due to political interest, and as a side effect for the nations' rapidly growing economies. India is already building a manned capsule for launch in 2016, and China isn't putting any major barriers in front of its SLS-like mega launch vehicle. As for SpaceX, they are already making enough money to begin developing the required technologies for their mars missions, and they will become much wealthier once reusability brings down launch costs. This is because launching satelites will be cheaper and hence more customers will do it. And since SpaceX will develop reusability sooner than other launch companies, they will get even more customers who would otherwise choose other companies for their satelites. You really think that? There are so many ways the colonization of mars could bring SpaceX profits like it has never seen before. Some examples: - Even if only one in a million people in the united states alone is capable and willing to live on the mars colony for an initial travel cost of $10 million, that gives SpaceX over $3 billion, just from people wanting to get to mars. - Right now, soil samples from the lunar surface are practically worth their weight in plutonium, and mars rocks will be just as valuable. While the influx of mars soil samples will weaken its value, it will still be a commodity comparable with gold or diamond. - If just grabbing the dirt isn't enough, mining the ore underneath could be very profitable. Remember, we are talking about an entire planet that has been left alone for 4.5 billion years, slowly building up mineral deposits from asteroid strikes. - Even if mining minerals from mars itself isn't getting the trillions of dollars you want, mars would make a great waystation for spacecraft heading outwards towards the asteroid belt, which has hundreds of billions of dollars of minerals per asteroid - Tourism could also be quite profitable. There have already been people who spent tens of millions of dollars just to get a joyride to the ISS. The surface of mars would be even more exciting, and there will inevitably be many millionaires wanting to go there I agree. Since when did peaceful diplomacy become so uncool? Right off the top of my head I can name three nuclear wars just waiting to happen.. It is completely relevant! It shows how much the American government values space exploration compared with everything else! I could even say it is more relevant than the budget itself! That graph shows the budget up to 2013, which is just before Sanctions, political unrest, oil problems and everything else blew a smoldering crater in the Russian economy. Elon Musk and Xi Jinping have both made it very clear they are both looking on the long-term end of the scale. We should do this plan. I like this plan. Are you going to be busy with anything in 2016? If not, you should run for president. And a presidential change. And the Vietnam war. Mostly the war. I have seen this statistic many times before. When one country has a higher military budget than every other country on earth combined, you know we have a problem. And the things they are doing with that money is... horrifying. This... is terrifying. To be fair, the growing budgets of India and China are largely just because they have rapidly growing economies, so expect the same kind of growth with their space programs. Also, when china transitions towards a democracy they will inevitably ease off on their military force, persuading its rival India to do the same. India also won't have to worry about Pakistan any more, so its military will be weakened further. Anyway, enough of my ranting for now, what's your opinions?

[DEVTHREAD] Deep Space Exploration Vessels
ChrisSpace replied to Angelo Kerman's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Good point with the supernova engine. perhaps instead it can trade throttle for isp? As in, at 100% thrust the isp would be 15,000s, at 50% it would be 30,000s, etc? That way we get the best of both worlds. Also, I might as well remove some of my other low-thrust high-isp engines from the list now... (But i'm still keeping the KITE on the list because I like it) -
10+ Things to do While Waiting for 1.0
ChrisSpace replied to SpenSpaceCorp's topic in KSP1 Discussion
- speculate on what the new tech tree will be like and where everything will be on it. seriously, am I the only one hyped for the new tech tree? - feel disappointed you can't into spaceplanes - feel mega disappointed tomorrow, and the next few days after it, are school days so you won't have time to enjoy 1.0 the same time everyone does -
Wait, NASA's started discovering warp anomalies? Isn't this like what professor brand said in interstellar? Something about 'we first started detecting these anomalies 50 years ago'?

is there an irl version of the kraken drive
ChrisSpace replied to Findthepin1's topic in Science & Spaceflight
If by 'kraken drive' we mean a way to move a spacecraft that does not require propellant, photon sails do not require any. However they have to be very big and fragile and have almost no thrust. And they don't work in the dark. -

ChrisSpace replied to Angelo Kerman's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Okay, I have removed all the mega-overpowered late-game engines, so now it is easier to see my (and my friends') other suggestions. What? Why can't we add both? As far as I could tell, the NSWR was perfectly balanced with its destroy-everything-when turned-on quality. In fact, I specifically did not add NSWR because I thought you were already on it. And if you plan on making the supernova the absolute end-game engine, its isp might need to be bumped up a little (the discovery II's engine isp was a bit over 35,000. scaled down for the kerbal universe, an isp of 20-30k would be best) -
Good news, KSP ep2 has now been uploaded and can be viewed at I managed to cut back the time a bit, however I am having trouble implementing some other suggestions (not stuttering, avoiding 'uhh' and 'umm', having something to talk about) Again, I need feedback! I need suggestions! Also, school has started again and I am already overloaded with schoolwork to so do not expect any more videos for a while. sorry.

That is good, I will certainly feature it on my channel once 'survival mode' is well implemented. In other news, KSP ep2 has been recorded and edited, it should come up tomorrow:D

You find that minmus's SOI has been closed of by the international kerbin environment protection organization (IKEPO). Your mothership crashes into the fence gate and you are fined for trespassing in a protected area. I launch a nuke at a random location on earth's surface. Other than wasting a nuke, what's the worst that could happen? (be creative)
