Well, i just figured that i'd try tinkering, and wanted to share my findings. Also, a powered "loop" with no actual input from a power source can be created by putting a repeater down, laying wire around to one side, and put another repeater down pointing to the first one. Put a redstone power source in the back end of the first repeater, wire becomes active, remove that power source... should stay on. I have the mill town, made some changes etc but there is definitely some stuff i need to learn still. The switching system fluburtur built is actually really well made, and it takes into account some of the more advanced redstone circuitry rules. Having a series of buttons change the active circuit requires a huge amount of build-out, just like any electronics breadboard for something similar like pushing a simple button for different LED's to light up. Please take the time to study the works below paradise and use what you find to connect new lines as needed. I would even suggest creating a tunnel "bellmouth" in the switch track area (a 3x3 tunnel 4-5 blocks deep), with loops of track to test if pushing the button sends you the right way etc. - Andy -

I have been tinkering with redstone a bit, and made the core of a "mill town" with "boss's house (like a rich mill owner's mansion)" "refinery (big building with furnaces and firy chimneys it looks awesome)" and "crafting house (two levels of 9 sets of chest/anvil/crafting table, with the crafting table set into the floor which is 2 blocks thick and a rail drop off/pickup area with chests that connect inside to out)" in an ice spike biome. Next will be "worker housing". Why am i telling you all of this? Because the rails are powered with redstone circuit instead of torches/switches. I simply run a line of wire along side one side of the tracks (ducking under in one spot to the other side for ease of use purposes) with perpendicular offshoots to the block holding the powered rail, then a loop to the other side for the one on the other side. Everything remains hidden, no redstone tech is visible. I would suggest building any new rail lines like this, as it does very well in tunnels (the redstone wire must hit the block holding the powered rail on its side, which means one block step down from track level) and keeps it safe from mobs and cannot be accidentally switched off in the case of switches, or totally disabled in the case of torches. It makes a very uncluttered result once everything is closed up. Another option, is that you can place the redstone torches one block below the block the powered rail is sitting on. This doubles the amount needed, however in the long run it may be worth taking a look at in areas where the rail lines do not cross caves/ravines and have room below to safely and simply/easily remove a block and seal it back up. Just some thoughts. - Andy -

I stated from the beginning that i cannot put anything in the form of mods etc on this computer. One mods are a headache & two it's not my computer, and minecraft was purchased for my girlfriend's son as an every once in a while treat for good behavior. I play it quite a bit, and i've gone on to build some really crazy amazing stuff in creative for him to try his hand at adventure recently. I can never put mods on here, at least for the time being. The work i have done on the rail lines and elsewhere were left in a good place if someone wants to take over. The biggest incomplete project is replacing all the fence with glass, but not just slapping it on there, it has to work AND look good too. If no one feels like doing that, it's fine. Also... if you could all just leave my stuff where it is at my foundry, office, glass fort, island/house, and whatnot. Took a lot of time & effort to build all of that at make it useful & function well for me. May come back some day, so it'd be nice if it was all there waiting for me. Someone please feed my pup, he's in the glass fort. A piece of meat every few days should suffice. Thanks for all the help from those who helped me on all the projects, and zentro & sparky especially for all the kindness & patience, and for my epic pickaxe! Hopefully this isn't a forever thing, but i'll not be on for the foreseeable future. Take care, you lot. - Andy -

The line i built atually goes through some really spectacular terrain, including a deep valley where the line is at the very bottom near some water, and a ravine, which will have windows to see out the side once torches are placed to illuminate it. There are ome other areas of "natural beauty" as well. It is the most direct path from paradise. Took me hours to scout out a proper route. As others have said, there is way too much empty space in the big buildings at paradise. New folks should be directed here to do their "thing". I don't even see an issue with modifying floor spacing as needed to make room for redstone etc. See this link and excerpt: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/33_Thomas_Street "The Long Lines Building was designed by architect John Carl Warnecke and completed in 1974. As it was built to house telephone switching equipment, the average floor height is 18 feet (5.5 meters), considerably taller than in an average high-rise. The floors are also unusually strong, designed to carry 200 to 300 pound per square foot (10–15 kPa) live loads.[8]" I do not see an issue in maintaining sanctuary as a low key, small scale settlement, and making paradise the hub for the rail lines, especially the longer ones. I mean, what are we doing with the iron dome? If it is not going to be used as intended and have a station stop as was originally intended, just let me take some iron blocks from it to put toward rail lines and redevelop the space as something else. The connection i made from the iron dome stub end was not meant to be a permanent thing. If the old port line is to be used as access to the port town, it needs more than one station. The east trunk has the desert and tree farm and the ocean terminal, and the mid-mountain station, with more to come over time. The new port town will also get a mid-mountain station, as well as 2-3 other stations for players to both use for exploring the area and resource gathering/transport, as well as creating small settlements (hiker hut for mid-mountain station is planned for example). Agree, we need fluburtur to come back on here and help with the upkeep of the redstone he built. If he does not want to do this, then he can at least explain what the circuits all do to zentro, sparky, and whomever else is good with redstone. - Andy -

Built some additional monorail supports. It is very time consuming, so it will take me a while to build all of them. It also doesnt help that there is varied terrain and water and fences etc in the way literally all over parts of sanctuary. I built the stub end of one of the spokes off the main loop. Some ladder to get up on the rail blocks would be nice, i do not have the inv space to carry them. I am working on this project, my fortress island, resource gathering/mining, and crafting/smelting stuff for the rail lines and whatnot. The other large project i am doing as i can, is re-doing the desert line with glass in place of fence to make it more scenic and safer for riders and keep mobs out. I don't mind ding some of this stuff all on my own, but i do need time to gather resources in-game, and i also need time for real life/real world stuff. Appreciate the patience. I need someone's help to tie in the new port town line with the switching system at sanctuary. I did not build this system, and i don't really "get" redstone, so i do need someone else to help me with this. It comes in right next to the desert line. It can be moved if need be to the opposite side of the interchange area down there. On top of all this, i am playing ksp still, because i like that game too quite a lot. - Andy -
This is a simple, basic, and easy to fly/land/take off parasol plane, with the primary fuselage/hull being mk2 parts. https://kerbalx.com/transitbiker/parasol-plane-2 Enjoy! - Andy

Above ground monorail. I have family visiting from out of town, so i won't be on to help till tomorrow or maybe later today. - Andy -
I had a craft on launch pad, loaded auto-saved craft to runway. Lil map icon showing capsule now shows up in live craft view, in editor, and basically everywhere but the initial menu screens. Initially i had massive fps issues till i went to tracking station & "recovered" the craft. Icon still remained. What's going on here??? 1.2.1 64 bit win 7 amd cpu/gpu. - Andy

I am going to work a bit tomorrow on connecting the new port town line with one of paradise's unused selector stubs. I can also mine out and survey the route for the underground tram line in sanctuary. I will also start the process of mining out the space under the intercity line for the cargo only line. Have decided that the cargo only line will connect to a small structure next to my humble foundry. This will allow the line to be built quickly & expansions to also take less time, as i can access the foundry's stores and crafting table to create the line. This works a lot better than constantly going between my glass fort, the desert terminal, my house, and my office in the station for one project. If you wish to donate materials to the railways dept, just leave them in the chest outside my glass fort or foundry. Your donation will be acknowledged on signs once whatever project i'm working on at the time is complete! In other news... why i was not on yesterday? Power was out for 7 hours (basically all day) for electrical upgrades to my girlfriend's place while they did all the needed work. Next will come solar panels. Tomorrow i have limited time because the local electrical inspector needs to inspect the work, including switching the individual breakers one at a time. This means no internet/computer during this time. I know there are a slate of projects yet to be done by the railways dept, but this is a real world thing. Thanks for all of your understanding. I know some of you are excited to get trams built in both sanctuary and paradise. It will happen, and super soon. Just give me time to get this IRL stuff done & everything will be beautiful! - Andy We should also start thinking about creating a perimeter barrier around the two cities with enough torches within to keep hostile mobs out for good. Port town is pretty well isolated, but some barriers might not be a bad idea. We can use diorite blocks spaced evenly with 5 torches each on top of whatever block, probably cobble. Hope to see you all on the server tomorrow! - Andy -

So, what should we do with the port town rail line? I have created the right of way, laid some track on one side, and brought it in ready to connect at both ends. Sparky, zoo, opinions? The line at paradise may need to be ducked under the station, or it could be tied in as it lay now - right next to the desert/tree farm/east ocean line. Let me know what you guise want to do. For those wondering why i want to re-route it from sanctuary, it's mainly because i'd rather do all the long distance lines from paradise, and keep sanctuary's line extensions going to the opposite direction of paradise. This makes the intercity line a De-facto pass though between the paradise system and the sanctuary system. Many cities have their rail lines/metros laid out this way, and it works very well for them. One example is grand central and times square. Times square is the largest subway station in the NYC subway system, and grand central terminal is a commuter rail line hub. Metro north (grand central as terminal) The times square/GCT layout with subway lines in their respective color codes. What the map doesn't show is a passageway linking the blue line (A,B,C trains). Hopefully this gives you an idea of the vision i have for the railways network. A small metro loop at sanctuary (one track, one direction) with stops at 4-5 locations would be great, so players don't have to walk to the main metro hub. Ideas for local metro/underground stops would be appreciated, and i can dig the tunnel and put in the rail system etc. What i see happening is powered rails that by default are turned off at the stations, then if you're nto getting off at that station, you press a button and the powered rail sends you off to the next stop. - Andy -

Rail line to port completed. Rail line dumps you off at the end of the marina dock. I parked your horse in a pen with a lead. A cart storage system with room for 15 carts would be much appreciated. Can be built under the marina dock near the activator rail. A system like the one at the desert terminal would be amazing. I can build out underwater to make building the redstone works easier. Will not be back on till later tonight/tomorrow (it's around 11:30 eastern time for me typing this right now). As railways foreman, i have made a formal decision regarding cargo/automated lines. I will build a mirror system for use with utility (no players riding). The intercity (paradise-sanctuary) line will be first, as it is the shortest line. There will be a tunnel installed below the current rail tunnel 2 blocks separate vertically. The line will not be big enough for players to fit riding carts. One block of air with the rail sitting on stone of some kind, then another block of air to give the carts the needed space to move. This will be using redstone block to power the rails from underneath (any redstone donated for this use would be appreciated!). The tracks will sit right next to each other, with a 2 block tall service walkway to one side. The line will connect with a separate cargo terminal located adjacent to the current passenger stations. The one at paradise will terminate either next to my foundry, or at the street tram cargo head house. On that topic.... The street tram cargo line ill be moved to a single direction monorail overhead. This will clear the walkways and open spaces of track (carts can be blocked by players/mobs) and allow for easy and aesthetically pleasing additions to the loop where needed. Help with this specific project would be appriciated. Please do not start construction of monorail structure blocks. I will lay that path out with marker blocks and also build a large amount of it. The cargo tram headhouse should probably be elevated once the monorail structure is completed. In either scenario, the cargo only line will have an interconnect with the tram line. Another issue is the sewer and other underground diggings/structures. In the process of building the cargo line, i may need to build through the sewer as it lay now. In this case, i will either re-route the sewer, or duck the cargo line underneath. Check your coordinates for dig/build activities, and try to avoid anything under the current intercity line. One last thing, very minor and not really an issue: The main hub of the rail line will be officially moved from sanctuary to paradise. Paradise has room for three more lines, and branches off those lines if need be. Sanctuary only has room for two more lines. I am sure new lines will be built at some point, but as i see it now, paradise is the main transfer point. The one line leading off from sanctuary aside from the intercity line is the port town line. If this port town can be reached practically from paradise central, i will move the line accordingly. Will have to look into that. Zoo, we can talk about this if/when the time comes. I can do all of the work myself, but before we even have that conversation, we should see which station is closer etc. This is not a real thing on the railways dept agenda, but if it's shorter from paradise, it really should be moved at some point. - Andy -

Oh, almost forgot. I have put in a mid-mountain station stop for players wanting to explore around the mountainous area the rail line tunnel passes under. Please remember to close both doors to ensure safety of players using the station and the rail line! Hiking trails using torches will be installed, and a hiker's hut will be constructed near the mountaintop entrance/overlook platform. - Andy -

Do i get creative? No biggie if i don't, just curious the criteria etc. Looking at the layout of the landscape, i can say that I would be happy to build some things at the harbor/port town. I am also putting the finishing touches on the east line between jeremy's rail bridge and the desert line bridge junction (mainly removing the "tube" and opening it up to daylight). The redstone workshop below my foundry next to paradise station has been completed structurally. Next i will fit it out with chests, crafting tables, and a hopper to drop redstone into which the chests will catch down below. Stay tuned! One other thing: any underground spaces underneath walkways or houses need to be filled in. I they are not, hostile mobs can spawn there literally any time day or night, and if someone is working in the vicinity of one of these voids, they can be attacked. One such void had 3 zombies and a baby zombie. This was right below sparky's quartz monument, and stretched over to the nearby walkways. Thanks for your mindfulness! - Andy -

Your kiosk area is ready. You can replace the dirt with any kind of block you want. You can utilize the space floor to ceiling there as well. Widened the floor so players can pass easily. Please keep the torches in that layout when you replace the dirt blocks, so the area has proper lighting! - Andy -

What are the admin/op requirements? Sparky has done a great job, but maybe it'd be good to have a team to spread both workload & availability? I could do whitelist stuff, if need be. Just tossing my hat in there (and definitely not taking away anything from sparkytheamazing). I am basically a "house husband" and i typically get my stuff done 5x faster than the average person, so i have tons of availability, though it would definitely vary day to day based on my girlfriend's work and custody schedule and so on. Also: the sewer is a fun idea, however the part under my humble foundry will likely need re-routing. I plan to put two basements underneath the foundry. One will be for all redstone storage and crafting (with access to the station's redstone works etc) and the other will be primarily for the storage of iron/gold ingots and ore, as well as wood and coal/charcoal. The chests in the foundry now are fine for what i need to store right now, however hey make the layout in there kinda awkward and i want to re-do it. I also plan to make more use of the foundry, which means i want a super efficient layout. The basements will be 3-4 blocks high each with a 2 block layer between, and at least a 2 block floor for the lower basement which will have a direct access to the station's lower levels and redstone works. That is a total of 12 blocks, which puts it directly in the way of the sewer. On a more fun note, i have started building out an island fortress formed out of a decent sized mountain island. It is near my home island. It's bare bones and needs work on the lower levels, but all are welcome to check it out. It looks like a huge jail. Adjacent to this is my stone quarry. Basically i am utilizing a seaside hill as a source for multiple stone types. Anyone in need of any stone type please leave me a request here & i'll deliver it to coordinates you pick. Please do be careful here. Unlike my fort, house, and mined out island, this one can have mobs spawn, especially hostile ones. There is no fence or anything keeping them out. Regarding the mind out island: it is not a safe place ad the fall from the rim is not a short one. There's a boat parking area, and stairs. If you decide to go look around, please leave the boat there so i know someone is down there! - Andy Oh yeah, one more thing. In addition to the title of railways foreman (yes i can help with any rail line, not just the intercity etc stuff) i am also giving myself the nickname MegaMiner. I have officially mind out over 10,000 stacks of stone! - Andy -

Just a general heads up: the desert/tree farm trunk line has been "daylighted" through a woodsy area. Mobs can get into the right of way till i cap it back over with glass block. That will not happen for several days. Just try not to be there longer than it takes the cart to pass through so no bad guys get into the system (they follow players). I'ts not a real big hazard, just be mindful. Also, please no breaking the fence or glass. If you want a break, leave me the coords and i'll make a doorway or gate. ^-^ Happy new year everyone, see you in 2017! - Andy -
