  1. Oh, and all the torches will be moved to the center block row, also freeing up torchs to be used elsewhere. - Andy
  2. Well, i'm going to be working on the main intercity line for a bit today, then off to put up the glass sides on the eastern trunk line. The goal is to lower the intercity line by one block after it exits the interchange area onto its own right of way all the way to the far side of the lake, as well as straighten the route through the former spawn chamber which will save time and the rails used in the "bypass" area can be used elsewhere. Anyone who wants to help is welcome to join me. - Andy
  3. I am not complaining. It is A project, OUR project, group/server collaborative project. the fact that you think i am complaining is a huge indication that you're not quite understanding the situation. So i'm just going to do my thing, because it's xmas eve and i'd much rather be enjoying my time on the server vs argue with someone stuck in a certain mental mode. Enjoy your day! - Andy
  4. Here's the thing. Someone would have eventually done a rail line system. This is and will remain a collective and collaborative project. The rail line passes through too many areas where other people are involved for it to be "owned" by anyone. I have taken the title of railways foreman, but i would never claim to own any part of it. My title basically means i maintain and safeguard the rail lines while also looking at improvements and enhancements. I collaborate with people who know redstone to do the redstone, and they let me do all the crazy building and tunneling required to actually construct the right of way and put track down because that is something i am really good at. My area of real-life expertise is sustainability, especially in transportation and planning. It's the perfect fit for me. Continuing with the "thanks for the contributions to my rail system, but its mine and me mine myself my idea" line of thought is not going to jive with the community we have become over the last weeks and months. If we all work together, we can do literally anything in this game. It has grown far beyond your original vision, and the cause has been taken up by several others eager to make lots of additional improvements including the in-city loops at both hubs. Lets be a team player, huh? Don't be "that guy". - Andy
  5. Ooo, um ok. That's really far. Going really far (past about 4500 from x0z0 increases the save file size for the game exponentially and puts a larger load on MK's data allotment. I am going to go ahead and say building a rail line that far is a big no-no. Sparky and i agreed that my own adventuring out into the wilds beyond is not a keen idea. I found ice spikes at 8000 9000 something and even made one into a tiny hut. The next thing that happened is that i went out there and got all my stuff aside from like one thing and have never returned. You will have to talk to MK and sparky/zoo about this, because far = BIG save file size plus the data usage. It's cool that you found one though! Nether portal may be the only appropreate way to get there if it's allowed at all. I would like to check it out, but again, the save file/data use issue. - Andy
  6. I have officially reached the terminal areal for the eastern trunk line after some scouting and some tunneling. it will stop at a station that serves as a ferry/rail inter-modal terminal at an ocean. Small seaside huts for each player can be built along the water with personal docks etc (nothing too big please), a long and noteable (coney island pier comes to mind) fishing pier would be nice, and something small and compact to supply the seaside resort with food would be amazing (yotojoe's chicken cooker comes to mind). A very small economy area can be set up near a cliff face (torches, sand in my signature pattern put into the cliff side) away from the waterfront proper. This rail line is not a priority and will be worked on when everything else i have planned is done for that day ie i ran out of glass etc. I can supply all the rail myself. This area will not have a cart storage/call system, but just one chest for carts that will be monitored and kept stocked by myself. I foresee this line being completed 100% including glass walls and terminal ferry building by mid-january if not early feb. A lot of rail bed has to be laid, and powered rail with levers for power must be crafted. I can do the entire thing. If someone wants to build the rail/ferry terminal please do contact me, it would be great to collaborate on such a project & make it a team effort. - Andy
  7. There is an area below the terminal like a basement, and under the rail bed blocks that i have clearedout for any cart storage systems. I am in the process of completing that, which will only take a few minutes once im out there. After that my desert line daylighting project will resume. I have all the glass plate i need, and my home furnaces are busy processing glass block in the mean time. I think fluburtur may have an idea for cart handling system, he likes team projects, so why don't you to work together on that one, and i'll just make space for you to to do whatever you like under the terminal area. The entire scope of the cart storage/call system has it being underground, with nothing visible aside from tracks going down underground out of sight. I prefer this because the primary concept of the desert terminal and why the terminal building is a lot smaller than central station is i want it to remain as-rendered by the game (scenic/ on the border between the desert and forest biomes etc). As for terminal, yes that is the end of the line. The other part of the desert line still in concept phase is a cargo tram for transporting mined resources back to the terminal area in a totally separate storage area for both carts and cargo. You can make the cargo tram cart handling and cargo handling system sit side by side underground, but i do not want cargo carts on the passenger only desert line. One thing that might be possible (and fun to do) in the long term is a second set of tracks mirroring the current tracks probably just underneath for use as a "freight line" for carts with material handling stuff (chests, hoppers etc) in them. This will take a huge amount of work to build out, and will be a low priority since currently players can simply carry items with them in their inventory. The line heading straight east (the desert line is actually a branch off of this at the river junction) will be extended past the remote tree farm site. More scouting needs to be done by me since it has been a while since i've been in that area & i need to see what's what. The line will probably have another branch going west, and a third large settlement area (after sanctuary and paradise) could totally be set up there. P.S. whomever built that desert village, looks good, thank you for doing that, just don't mine too much stuff so close to the terminal going forward (scenic/as rendered etc). - Andy
  8. Firstly, thank you. Secondly, i did more than just build the line past Jermey's bridge. I scouted the route of the line, set up the tree farming area, and definitely had some help with the trunk bit into the woods past the bridge (thank you thank you thank you). I built bridges and enclosed the rail line as to protect from hostile mobs and general interference from other mobs. I also put work into paradise central to finish the brick and glass shell. I then finished out the inside with the two upper floors with fencing and torches, my railways office for a central storage place for railways material & tools etc, then i went underground and completely dug out the sides to make them both uniform looking and at least two blocks thick on the other side. As part of that project i finished all of the details that had been overlooked sich as replacing stone with stone brick at ground level outside, then dug a perimeter trench 3 blocks deep and put stone brick there to protect the lower concourse from accidental intrusion. Then i added all the torches (from stuff i mined etc myself) underground for uniform lighting to end the continued spawning of hostile mobs down there. I also put torches all over the basement around the redstone works, sealed off tunnels and caves to protect it from hostile mobs (creepers still blew up stuff at that point) and plugged all but one access point (leading to my humble foundry). I took hours to craft clay bricks and glass for the station, and kept pushing for the main shell to be finished. Then on top of that and with sparky, protected and modified the intercity trunk line to keep it safe from water, hostile mobs and careless mining. I am actually not done with it yet, there are some modifications that need to be done such as re-routing it through the old spawn chamber vs having it go around, dropping the whole line by one block, and filling in all the mined out areas in the walls and ceiling. Florid, you may have indeed started this project, but once you went missing the rest of us adopted it and took it over as a community project. That is a GOOD thing, because if we didn't care, the station would still look like it was bomed out during a war, there would be water intrustions all over the place, and the line past jeremy's bridge would not exist. Instead of acting like my girlfiend's kids over the issue, you didnt even bother to take the time and step back and realize that hello the station building is complete and looks amazing. Hello, the line to the east desert is complete, and is in the middle of a refurbishment project to make it safe and more scenic, and has a terminal station and will have a redstone cart handler system soon. I even decided on having surplus cart storage in chests next to the cart storage units so any imbalance in count can be corrected easily. The line past jeremy's bridge is 3x3, allowing room to jump so you can travel faster on foot if need be plus it's more spacious visually. My plan was to make the intercity trunk line 3x3 as well, and simplifying the torch layout to the block row between the tracks so the torches can be freed up to illuminate paradise and sanctuary to keep hostile mobs away. I have more plans too and i can actually mostly do it all by myself thanks to the kind and generous gestures of my fellow players. The rail system that you started has grown into the most complex and most amazing team built thing i have seen in minecraft, including any/all videos on youtube. Can't you take pride in that, vs act all resentful of your fellow players? C'mon dude! - Andy
  9. Guise, go check out the area where the desert line comes out of the ground after leaving paradise station... It's just the beginning! - Andy
  10. So, i have been very busy. Sorry that i have fallen behind on my task on making the railway safer with fencing. It will be addressed. Also, i am likely going to open the super long tunnel section in select spots, make others have a glass enclosure, and the areas remaining enclosed will get skylights where applicable so it doesnt keep the "never ending tunnel of oblivion" feel. Prime considerations here are rider safety, rail line integrity, and keeping mobs OUT. I am going to have to scale back gameplay quite a bit till january. Lots of end-of-year festivities, traveling, family stuff on top of taking care of two kids and a house. SO long story short, i will be using each time i get to log on to the fullest extent till further notice, no exploring or other off-task stuff. Any crafting tasks will have to wait (foundry is closed till january, paradise rail station kiosk requests will be seen but possibly not processed till january) and any big projects like daylighting the rail line tunnel will be taken on in an as-i-can-find-time policy, so please be patient! Warmest seasons greetings. - Andy
  11. I am not on here for violence, but to create. I had two blocks of TNT left from 9 that i swiped from a desert temple some weeks ago. I used the other 9 on random junk like trees and dirt way the hell out away from anything. I had two after that which i buried, and do not know the location of nor did i note the location nor is it traceable or marked. Just putting that out there. I have no use at all for TNT, so good riddance. In any case, the area below the desert line terminal has been cleared out into a basement and the are below the railbed in front of and to one side has been dug out and sandstone put in for a 3x3 tunnel. There are netherrack blocks i put in for visual guides a the very end of the rail bed. I suggest beginning the redstone works before that, but depth does not matter. I would like 99% of the cart storage to be invisible below ground. If you wanna build it, please respect the integrity of the area, including/especially the station, fence, and gates. Don't forget to close the doors and gates. Some time this week i will double height the entire line with fence to protect from skelly arrows, while keeping it "open" and "scenic". Please refrain from altering the desert terrain in the terminal area more than it already has for the village. The whole point is for it to be scenic. - Andy
  12. Guise, please stop digging at the bottom of the damn fishing lake, the rail tunnel is under there. There are plenty of other areas to mine. This is not one of them. No touchie! Srs tho, tempted to fill the damn thing in, this is the 7th or 8th time someone has screwed around underneath the wood rail viaduct where the paradise-sanctuary rail tunnel is. I have already undercut (lowered) the tunnel in 2 places and had to put extra blocks of stuff on top to keep water away because people keep mining too close. Office of railways foreman will have a word with anyone doing further shenanigans!!!! - Andy Basically what i just said HAHA. I didn't see this post till just now. Yeah, someone broke it AGAIN and i had to fix it AGAIN. I will keep an eye on it. There should be no water dripping from the ceiling of any of the rail tunnels. There should be minimal activity around the rail tunnels. It took the rail team weeks to build this thing out, so for the sake of our collective sanity keep clear. Thankies! - Andy
  13. I kinda built where i did to be far away from everyone else. I have my "in town" addresses at paradise & sanctuary with the glass fort and the apartment tower. I personally like that sparky's desert beach house is well over 1000 blocks away. No path or nether portal, please, it's supposed to be a rugged journey out from the desert terminal. The plan is to create a small street grid at the desert terminal. The plan is also to create a simple automated cargo tram that goes far, far, far out into the desert to a very remote location to service mining & resource gathering activities. Also, there will be a cargo terminal adjacent to the desert line cart dispenser (yet to be built, i don't redstone, someone will have to build that who isn't me) which does not share carts with the passenger rail line. Carts with stuff in it (dispenser, furnace, chest etc) should not be mixed in with carts you ride in. - Andy
  14. Dat sparky tho. Super glad to see you're well enough to join us in posting here. Hope you get right as rain asap bro. - Andy
  15. I'm not here to make the server a hair splitting police state or make rules up, i'm not an op or moderator, just a player. I simply expressed my opinion, which no one is required to agree with. I am interested to see what comes of the redstone you speak of. When you go to my island there are two things you should be aware of. One: the roofed forest nearby is a sanctuary that i manage by replanting and etc, it's the primary source for all my tools, so if you need wood the remote tree farm site (also a roofed forest) is both closer and easier to get to via the rail line. The second thing is that the forest near my island is absolutely thick with dangerous mobs, small ponds you have to place blocks to get out of etc, so please be careful. The best way to get there is to go to the eastern desert, then keep going straight out from the terminal till you hit water. There's an arrow of torches and a spire of some kind to get you to the best area of the water if you veer off to the right (the side the station is on a bit as you go out (kinda diagonal). - Andy Oh, right. I am in the process of making the inner shell of the station at paradise all stone brick, and laying an extra 3 block tall buffer all around the perimeter of the station building. There is a hole i left (fell through it by accident & died) that is directly above the redstone works room below the station proper. Just be careful not to fall like i did, it's not survivable even with enchantments etc. I have already replaced all of the dirt visible inside the station (lower concourse) with stone brick, and plan to do the same with the entire inside wall. Any mural/design suggestions are welcome. - Andy
  16. Literally everything i make is as small as it can practically be. The biggest thing i made was the house on my island which is supposed to be a "look what i can build with a little help if left alone". I mined or everything. Sure, i had help, but i'm not here to be on creative, i already have like 8 worlds on my own singleplayer mode to do that with. My island house has a roof with a diving platform (you can dive into an enclosed pool). Under that is the bedroom with basically just a bed and a chest. Armor stand and some item frames will likely go in there. Under that is my primary processing and crafting area, and some storage. This is the main floor when you enter. under that is a new area i just made a few days ago for storing lots of the same stuff so i dont have to make tons of runs all the way back to spawn/paradise every time i play. Under that is a plain empty room that leads into the island mine. This room is simply a shortcut so i don't have to go above ground outside, saves a bit of time. I don't plan on putting anything down here. Out front i have a boat dock & a stairway from there to the front door. There are trees on the island that were there when i started building the house. That whole side of the island only has torches, otherwise untouched/natural. The other "hallf" is all house/stone decking. Oh, yeah, there's the water access tubes to the ravine i found below the island as well as a future ladder location (super deadly dangerously long fall, don't mess with it) covered for now. The whole island is less than two tower floor's worth of load on the server i bet, yet it serves all my needs in the game plus some fun extras, like automatic doors. Go check it out if you like, it's at 1318 3326. - Andy
  17. So the whole "towers are bad for data use". I see three new huge towers, all empty etc. I keep getting massive lag every time i get near paradise now because of all these huge towers that are nice to look at but serve no purpose and sit there eating up the server's set data limit. One of these new towers is for some reason sitting on top of a lovely meadow area with trees now full of dirt and wrecked my passageway which i had to go in and fix. If you break stuff i made, i will put it back how it was as best i can. If you see a name on something, you can't just plow it over. ASK. Like, here it is, if you mess up something i build, i'm going to undo whatever you did. Sucks that it has come to this, but this whole thing isn't just some anarchistic free-for-all. I mean, we have rules for my girlfriend's young kids that include: no bad messes, no touching stuff that isnt yours without permission, and be respectful of people and property. Please don't tell me we can't follow those rules but a 4 year old can. Folks, I need to be honest, i'm getting a bit frustrated. What the hell is wrong with reasonably scaled structures that are actually 100% in use? If this keeps going i'm definitely going to not be a part of this anymore, even if to save MK's internet data usage. And why is ANYONE in creative mode? If something needs to be moved etc i get it, but otherwise you're creating a stratified playing experience. I know this is going to be fixed soon (dec 10) but come on. /rant - Andy
  18. Sparky helped me early on with the desert/tree farm line. My first and biggest project. Also one of the first people i encountered on the server. Heart beating fast as described is likely a valve or structure issue. Not a light thing. Basically you are totally bedridden and not allowed to do anything that might elevate your pulse till whatever they do to you is fully healed and properly healed. Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans. Lets hope all ends well & he returns more chipper than ever. - Andy
  19. Was that you that started that big round thing? - Andy
  20. Whomever modified my passageway, please change it back. No one is supposed to change anything or remove anything without permission from the builder. It also looks like it was obliterated by the base of a tall tower. If you didn't get the memo, tall towers are being discouraged due to server load/data cap & lag. Come on folks, we all gotta play by the same rules. On a lighter note, my island i think is finally finished. Just gotta stock up on all the essential items in the chests and do some final sorting. Feel free to visit, but please do not take anything or touch/change anything. Thanks! - Andy
  21. I have not used creative on here once, just for the record! - Andy
  22. The main reason i use existing stuff or make small lil shacks is because of the data issue. I did not realize about the exploration being an additional issue. I won't roam farther than my island unless permission to do so is given. I have a lot of uncovered ground closer to spawn that i've never seen anyways! My ice spike hut has been de-housified aside from two wood pressure plates that i couldnt carry. - Andy
  23. Ok. Just trying to stay out of people's way. Sorry. - Andy r Recovery from what? - Andy
