  1. In the new aero SAS is more liability than help during ascent. You tend to get buffeted by the air, SAS corrects, the air pushes back, SAS corrects more etc. It's a feedback loop that can shake your rocket to pieces. For one I use KJR because I imagine that my Kerbals don't make their rockets out of toilet paper rolls but also I don't use SAS anymore on ascent. Just get a TWR between 1 and 2 (I like 1.5 although mine tends to go up and up throughout the launch but that can't be helped) and give it a slight nudge when it reaches 10m/s. At that point just watch the rocket nose itself over gradually. By 10k you'll want it to be between 60 and 45 degrees. If it's pitching over too fast accelerate, if not fast enough decelerate but don't use SAS or wasd. Let the rocket fly ballistically. This should give you a nice clean ascent profile and it won't have as much tendency to wobble. Of course, you can also add struts.
  2. Now I finally know what your user image is a picture of. I had been wondering what that was behind your shuttle.
  3. When I get home I'm gonna see about designing another module if that's cool I'm thinking some kind of observation area with cupolas. That is, if anyone will trust me with the save game again. lol. This time I'll make sure to give it back as soon as my launch/launches are complete.
  4. Mine never have landers. That's what EVA propellant is for. I even do something I call the "Valentina Maneuvre" since I first did it with her. I fly way out to a distant location with EVA, then fly back and without touching the ground I fly right to my hatch and board.
  5. I'm sure you've probably done it already but you could build a space station. I always enjoy doing that. Or you could try a multi-body gravity slingshot (not sure if that's what it's called but basically see if you can send a probe that gets redirected by Duna to head on a fly-by of Jool and then maybe gets redirected again to come back into the inner planets). Or you could try FASA and fly recreations of historic rockets. So you could do an Apollo mission using a realistic looking Saturn V and Apollo spacecraft.
  6. By the way, I don't know if this is against the rules but since I'm holding things up a bit I don't mind providing the save info directly to @ScriptKitt3h if that's easier. I could just pass the baton right along to him at the same time that I send it to @DMSP
  7. Right. It occurred to me after I went back to work (I only post on my breaks). I'm in the Florida so EST.
  8. Sorry about that. I didn't realize I'd need to get it back so soon (I figured it would be ok as long as I gave it back before midnight tonight). I get off of work tonight at 9pm and will be home around 9:30 and will give the save back first thing.
  9. btw, we should totally get a signature badge to commemorate our participation in this project. Someone better than me at graphics should design it.
  10. lol, no I didn't kill Jeb. I assume he's aboard one of the stations because I didn't see him in the astronaut complex. Also it was late when I finished my turn yesterday so I didn't end up uploading the file. I'll do it tonight when I get home from work.
  11. And here's the album for my Mun landing. Also I uploaded just one image and then did them one at a time to make sure they were in the right order. http://imgur.com/a/Cn32Q Not quite There's my final launch
  12. Just completed my launch to dock my new habitat module with Gateway Station. Here is the album http://imgur.com/a/d2gmc EDIT: Screw it. I have no idea why it doesn't save the correct order of the images. I keep re-arranging them and then when I click the link in this post they are wrong again. You guys are smart, I'm sure you'll figure out the correct order. RE-EDIT: Just looked again and now the images are in the right order. lol
  13. I would agree with this being early in the tech tree, like basic rocketry. Also I can't wait to see better textures and maybe have the vapour rise or fall (I want to say in videos I've seen the vapour falls due to being so cold, but I'll have to look again).
  14. @DMSP No problem. I'll get it tonight after work and then I'll do my launches.
  15. I have performed multiple test launches and run through every aspect of my launches and procedures. I am ready to go!
  16. "occasionally". Actually I did finally perform a successful gravity turn last night and didn't get the burn in effects. Also; When you dump a stage with a third of it's fuel left because you don't need it anymore and it's mass is slowing you down.
  17. So I go with Norse mythology. I also do the NASA thing of having a name for the rockets and a different name for the program. I also number the rockets based on design iteration as I refine them. So right now in Career mode I mostly use the following two rockets Longship III - a light LKO lifter and satellite launcher Thor V - A medium lifter mostly used for Mun and Minmus missions My projects are Hunin - Kerbal orbit satelites, I'm up to Hunin X or so now I think Munin - Probes to Kerbin's moons Viking - one manned orbital missions. Basically my Mercury project. Valkyrie - Project to test rendezvous in orbit. Basically a very short lived Gemini Einherjar - My Mun and Minmus landing program. Basically my Apollo. The first three all used the Longship vehicle (I want to say that Longship I launched Viking I and that longship II did the next couple Viking launches and then Longship III did the Valkyrie, Hunin, and Munin launches). Project Einherjar uses the mighty Thor V rocket (Einherjar's 1-3 used earlier iterations that failed and were failed missions. Einherjar IV used the Thor IV rocket and almost ran out of fuel hence the creation of Thor V for all future Einherjar missions). I rename the vehicle on the Launchpad (unless a fairing is in my way in which case I rename it later) based on the mission. In my current career I look forward to creating Valhalla station in orbit soon but I'm waiting for a contract so I can make bank doing it.
  18. I know the contract you are talking about and it states "WHEN splashed down". You have to splash down first and THEN you activate the rocket through the staging sequence.
  19. One little thing that nobody else has mentioned is that the name of the mod "mechjeb" is an abbreviation for "Mechanical Jebediah" and is a play on the fact that the game's original and still most used pilot is Jebediah Kerman. Anyhow Docking Port Alignment indicator is fantastic but if you're looking for a docking camera there's always this thing Also, if you would like to know some great non-cheaty mods here are some of my favorites, a couple of which actually make the game harder. KER - Kerbal Engineer Redux. It adds the info of mechjeb without the autopilot so some players prefer it. Better Burn Time- Revamps the burn time indicator for maneuvers and helps with the suicide burn for landings. Just makes the numbers more accurate, not cheaty Enhanced navball - adds a couple of indicators to the navball that really ought to be there already anyhow TAC life support - now your Kerbals can starve to death or suffocate in the harsh void of space! Dang it! - Makes parts fail at random times. Most parts are fairly reliable but once in a blue moon something will fail during a mission forcing you to get creative. This helps recreate that Apollo 13 "Failure is not an option" feeling. Chatterer - Adds beeps and com chatter. That's it but once you use it the game will feel incomplete without it. Final Frontier - Now your Kerbals can earn ribbons commemorating their achievements. I find this invests me more in my Kerbals lives and careers. Hot Rockets and Cold Rockets - better visuals on exhaust (hot rockets) and ice falling of the rocket at launch (cold rockets) Transfer Window Planner - what it says on the tin I might edit the list later after I get a chance to look at my gamedata folder.
  20. @DMSP Alright, I'm on deck to go next so I just have a quick question. Can you PM me the dropbox link and any necessary passwords/etc.? Also, what's the rule on debris, should I just recover any debris that may be left if I don't stage clean? It's an important question in that my Munar lander stages off it's landing legs and external fuel tanks during ascent to conserve fuel for the return journey, so should I leave those on the Munar surface or recover them to keep the save clean?
  21. Hell yes, I love Traveller. Still haven't had a chance to really play the new Mongoose version that came out. I took part in the playtest and still haven't bothered to get my copy. lol
  22. I do Norse mythology names. I like to imagine that my game takes place in an alternate world where we went with Norse rather than Greek mythology. I also name the rockets but then use "rename vehicle" on launch pad to give it the mission name. Here's what I have on my current career. Longship III - an LKO and satellite launching vehicle. It was instrumental in the Viking program (basically my Mercury) Valkyrie (My Gemini) and the Hunin and Munin probes Thor V - My Mun lander for my current Einherjar project (basically Apollo) The numbers (i.e. Longship III and Thor V) indicate design stages as I perfected the rocket. So Thor V is my fifth iteration of the Thor rocket (happy coincidence that it worked so that my Mun lander would be ___ V like Saturn V. It wasn't on purpose).
  23. We're rooting for you Dax! Bring our boy home
