  1. Thanks for pointing that out. I completely forgot about partless
  2. Ah, here we go. Here's one from my recent Duna and return mission (feel free to check out the whole thing under my mission report post titled "Project Odin" if you like) http://imgur.com/saKHgjG
  3. So if you have Ker there's a hud type thing when you are flying your mission. I'm not sure who's screenshot this is (I googled it since I'm at work right now and can't generate my own) but do you see how his in mission HUD on the right hand side has a button labeled "vessel"? And with that selected you should see an entry for "delta V current". Although, I want to say in the current version it will instead say the stage like "S7 3025/6000 dv" which shows the total and current for that stage. If I remember I'll try to get a screen shot of mine when I get home. I use it all the time.
  4. I posted this elsewhere but it dawned on me that perhaps I ought to post my mission report in the mission reports part of the site. Duh. Anyhow I present to you, my first successful Duna landing and return mission! http://imgur.com/gallery/BCeWu
  5. You could use KER btw. It does the dV calculation for you. Also as someone else pointed out your return dV is really high. Did you wait for a return transfer window? Again, there's a mod for that
  6. "I don't care about what anything was DESIGNED to do, I care about what it CAN do." - Gene Kranz, Apollo 13 movie
  7. Right, my point being that you can send an empty capsule with a probe core instead of using a service bay.
  8. Also your poll only works if you answer the second question even though I said that I like Kerbin.
  9. Always a proud moment when Scott Manley takes on your challenge.
  10. Welcome to the game Kinner! I'm glad the issue was resolved for you. One thing nobody mentioned, probably because we've all been playing for a while and didn't think of it, is that the parachute icon in your staging sequence is color coded. So if it is red you are going to fast, orange you are almost there, once it turns to the normal grey button it is now safe to hit space and deploy the chutes. This happens around 300 m/s surface speed. Not sure if that's what was causing the trouble but it's something to keep an eye out for going forward.
  11. Yes, and now to apply what I've learned to do the same thing in my career save and rescue the Kerbals I've stranded in LDO. lol
  12. Dang, that mod is robust. Might have to give it a try later.
  13. I was explaining the Van Allen belts to a co-worker and thought "That would be a neat challenge to add to KSP".
  14. Here's a fun experiment. Find a place with an unobstructed view to the west. Lie on your stomach and watch the sunset. The second the sun finishes setting stand up and you'll get to watch the last moments of the sunset a second time. This is because you change your observation angle slightly as you observe the sun passing behind a curved Earth.
  15. Thanks for the breakdown. One more thing I would add to your description of when to use parallel is that I sometimes find that I end up using it if the rendezvous target is orbiting so low that Kerbin's atmosphere prevents me from doing one of the other options, or if fuel is tight and I can't raise and lower orbits too much.
  16. Alright, here's the corrected album http://imgur.com/gallery/BCeWu
  17. Agreed. I just did my first successful Duna and back mission and I just planned a bit of wiggle room into my dV and I did the radial adjustment to get an encounter. I also did another adjustment burn with a node at the ascending node so that I would wind up in an equatorial orbit of Duna when I arrived (thanks to Starhawk for the recommendation on that one).
  18. Dang it! I spent so long re-arranging the pictures. What gives imgur? Oh well
  19. Dang it! I spent so long re-arranging the pictures. What gives imgur? Also this was sandbox. I tried the NERV but I didn't actually get any more dV out of it because I wasn't using a liquid fuel only tank for my CSM. The liquid engine ended up being all I needed to pull off my mission though. EDIT: Album fixed. Here's the new link http://imgur.com/gallery/BCeWu
  20. My first successful Duna landing and return. If some of the captions in the album are obvious it's because I also posted this album to facebook and I wanted people who don't play the game to understand some of the stuff I'm talking about. http://imgur.com/a/7JWCJ
  21. It was a success!!! By the way, if some of the captions seem obvious it's because I also shared this album on my facebook so people who don't play the game might also see the album. http://imgur.com/a/7JWCJ
  22. I'm not sure. I want to say that application is out of date but I could be wrong about that. There is a transfer window planning mod though. Let me find it and link it for you.
  23. Thanks, I'll give this a try tonight. If successful I'll post an album of my mission
