I teleport to Skelton in the North-East of England. I throw a hot cup of tea at the next user.
-
Yep, checked straight after posting and found that out I've corrected it now.

So, the new update is out... Time to work on that Ion SSTO* *as soon as I unlock ion propulsion, that is.

Not with your face. Why can't I hover? -
Granted, you can now only code something to display the word "better". I wish I could code. Preferably, quite well.

For those willing to accept this mission, what lies ahead will be a grueling and precise task. I'd advise you now to turn away from this mission if you are faint of accuracy. In this post, "1 pixel" refers to "1 light". So we all know that the coming update brings us pretty lights. We can sit there and play around with the things all day and have fancy streetlamps, colour indicators, enormous galleries, etc., but who dares to go one step further? I'm talking big. Real big. This challenge will involve making a low-resolution screen at the space centre for all of Kerbalkind to awe at and be inspired by. KSTV - Kerbal Space Television. This will be something huge. Of course, this cannot happen until the new update is out. Until them, using the lights as just their current default colour will do.Here are the rules: Any light can be used (square or round). Screen must be mobile. Screen must be sustainable (won't run out of electricity). No engines, no fuel, and no RCS. SAS is allowed in whatever amount. Pixels must be displayed onto a flat surface that is part of the craft. Must use pixel art (the post must state what the pixel art depicts). Part count is an issue here, of course. With each light making up one pixel, you'll quickly reach 100 parts. Which is why I propose pixel art. A huge board using pixel art, of whatever you want, which you will screenshot and post here. You must state: The number of pixels on the screen. The resolution, counting each light as one pixel. Measure this as pixels per inch (ppi). The screen size in meters. For the sake of this post, one small square panel is 1m². Please post this as both length by width and corner to corner (you know pythagoras' theorum, yes?) A record holder will be displayed below for each of the above achievements: MOST PIXELS: <NAME> HIGHEST RESOLUTION: <NAME> LARGEST SCREEN: <NAME> The update has been released, race is on. Let me know if I missed anything or if anything is unclear.

"Did we deploy the landing legs? Oh wait..." Bill, Bob, and Jebediah Kerman on every pre-0.16 (I believe that's the correct one) mission.

The "You know you're playing a lot of KSP when..." thread
Shna_na replied to Phenom Anon X's topic in KSP1 Discussion
When you end up saying "Munar" every time you try to say "lunar", or equally when you say "thrust" instead of "trust" (boy can that get awkward... "come on, you can thrust me"). -
Granted, you have the power of cosmic radiation. Unfortunately, you are not immune to the effects of its use. I wish I was immune to all kinds of radiation other than those inside the visible spectrum.

I set up a roadblock I then run away from the roadblock, using the next poster as a human shield that is attached to my vehicle.

Firstly, acquire a rover tee. Then, place the tee firmly into the surface of the dirt that is labelled as the start of the course. Put the rover atop the tee, and proceed to hit it towards the hole using your drive club. Try to get it as close as possible! Does anyone even see what I was getting at? -
I don't have a car. Wait... that's why! I mean... I pat around the garage until I find it and begin to paint it black. Better then not being able to see it, right?

Ah, just take the credit would you care to post some way of pronouncing Abconovichatkaderivokistan?

The KSP team are really taking some serious rap for this. We all need to just realise that this wasn't as big a deal as some people have made it out to be. Most of the people who are complaining will look back and want to delete their posts after seeing the overreaction they've had, I personally forgive the KSP team for their minor mistakes. Rowsdower, you're doing a good job of handling all this by the way, I'm pretty sure people are slowly coming to their senses .
-
Granted, but you are bound by a non-disclosure agreement that prevents you from using it in any way, shape, or form. I wish there was a comprehensive tutorial for UV Mapping.

I agree, Squad got a lot more bad rap then they deserved from this somewhat minor mishap. The way I've put it in my posts kind of makes me seem guilty of doing this, too, but I'm understanding of the situation and aren't going to be begrudging about it. It's nice that you share these things with us. But this leads me on to the next point: That's true, spoilers are a common cause of the frustration. For me, too, this is the worst part. It's the fact that they're so unavoidable that makes them bad - you would think that you could just not watch the video, when in fact you know that there are things on the video that you do want to see. The issue is that different people want different levels of spoiler. Personally, I like to have a couple of things spoiled - say, 20% of the update - so that I can see that there's some pretty awesome things coming but still have plenty to find out for myself. On the other hand, I like to hear about everything that's coming but not in detail. Just a passing mention would be nice, such as "oh, hey, we're doing something with asteroids, and you're going to get something that you can use to attach pretty much anything to anything. You can find out about that when you get the update. We also have some SLS parts, thanks to NASA, which means that the old 2.5m parts are no longer the biggest in the game...". This is just the right amount of spoiler for me: it outlines what's there but doesn't detail it. I think that's the issue - too much detail. We know the ISP, thrust, mass, everything about all the parts that are being added to the game, we know that the asteroids will have different classes based on their mass and can range from a certain mass and size to another certain mass and size, we know that the claw is almost a docking port but without the need for another docking port. I'd like to know what's coming, sure, but I'd like them to be shrouded in mystery and theories about what they will be like.

I sit in a refrigerator and ride it out Indiana Jones style. I crash a moon into the next poster.
-
Ah, I agree. Thanks for clearing that up. Much better! This is the kind of constructive criticism we need. I will bear this in mind. Now can we return to the matter at hand? The thread seems to be leaning on two wheels here and is at risk of derailment.
-
Text is a very easy thing to misinterpret. I saw your original response as an indirect request for more communication from the development team, not as a negative thing. Am I correct in thinking this? I somewhat agree, but I find that I just have to watch them. It's almost as if I'm pressured into it by my own curiosity, I want to know what's coming so I know what I'll be able to play around with. The trade-off is that I am no longer as satisfied when the update comes. It's not Squad's fault, it's mine for spoiling it for myself.
-
Been there, done that. The game didn't always have landing legs: back in 0.14 I first landed on the Mun, using only what I had to land on - the engine. When I say landed, I... impacted the ground with force which resulted in spontaneous explosive rapid unplanned disassembly. But it's just as easy as landing with the legs, to be honest.
-
Is it that you would like some more information from them? I kind of agree, but I think that this amount is enough and their time is better spent on actually developing the game. Just a side note: Everyone seems to be getting mad at the poll. Is it really that bad? It's difficult to fit a "one size fits all" kind of answer into 100 characters, you know? Surely it's enough for you to be able to select one that outlines your opinion in its basic form. Even if it can't, just put your opinion as a comment rather than moaning about the poll without giving any input. You can't edit a poll, so once it's made it's made and there's no changing it, so complaining is useless. Constructive criticism is useful, however, so if you see something wrong with the poll just let me know how to improve it for next time rather than giving me nothing to build on. If you're just complaining and not giving someone any suggestions for improvement then you're as bad as the thing you're complaining about and don't really have the authority to do that, in my opinion. Saying it's bad without justifying why is plain wrong and is a hugely disrespectful thing to do. Rant over, continue with the discussion.

While I do see your point and why it is relevant and valid, the people who have early access to patches are Squad's official QA (quality assessment) team. They are bound by an NDA (Non-disclosure agreement) which means that they can't utter a word to anyone about the features; They are also instructed to do certain things, as well as play it as a normal person would. This is, conveniently, a promotional tool by the developers to allow higher-ranking Youtubers to publicise the game and the coming update, with permission to do so in certain areas that are outlined in the previously mentioned NDA. This builds hype (whether you see it as positive or negative) for the game, as well as allowing the developers to indirectly inform their consumers of what is coming. In essence, these people are officially semi-employed by Squad to test the game for bugs and suggest improvements so that a stable version can be released to us.

I see why that might seem a little bit pointless or contradicting, but having 10 options would result in very little variation between each point, and would cause confusion. The relevant ratings out of 10 are stated as a prefix of each option. Ah, you say that, but this gauge is to measure your interest in hype. Your opinion stated here suggests to me that you fall into the category of either the first or second options.
