Looks like a cetacean coming up for air and checking out the silly humans.

I think straight up is a considerably better direction than horizontal through the atmosphere. The motion is what gets you.

The difference is you're actually giving them the space to construct a meaningful answer!

The introductory questions that usually get asked have very long answers requiring background and explanation. We should try to choose more specific and narrow questions.

Hard to say if they still have it.

Insect communities can evolve immunity to pesticides, and the development of insect-killers is a big area of study. A big issue is making something that kills them, but doesn't ALSO work on us.

Why do we still use 'therefore' but not 'wherefore'?

Mars Rover Perseverance Discussion Thread

Epic! I was wondering if they'd approach any of the disposed pieces, but somehow it never occurred to me that they would be perfect targets for the helicopter! -
Being more afraid of dust than hypergols is a priority that needs readjustment, I think...

Insectoid Winged Flight Versus Zero G
cubinator replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
When you sometimes only have a few days to live your adult life, there's not a lot of time to fool around with having to learn how to do things. -
Insectoid Winged Flight Versus Zero G
cubinator replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Insect nervous systems are very specialized, they have a lot of circuitry that's more hard-wired than ours. Many flies, for instance, have neurons that are fused together for faster obstacle avoidance in flight where other animals would usually have a gap between the cells. The circuitry to control the flight muscles is located in the thoracic ganglia, dense nerve clusters in the same part of the body as the wings. Commands to activate or deactivate them come from the brain (where large lobes are also responsible for image processing), but the action itself is extremely structured. -
Insectoid Winged Flight Versus Zero G

I have an idea as to why this might be. Bees can use all four wings for flight, while flies are of the order Diptera, whose hindwings are only small nubs on the ends of stalks. Flies use only their forewings to fly, while the hindwings are used for stabilization by spinning. If a fly were to try flying in absence of gravity, they might just start spinning around. Insect wings are pretty sturdy, have you ever tried to eat one? They're like a tough, dry leaf, like a bay leaf. -
Ah, that could be. I never saw the booster start moving up, but it was very close to stationary from the droneship.

Did the first stage just hover?

What would you want Valve to make: Half-Life 3 or Portal 3 (poll)
cubinator replied to Lewie's topic in The Lounge
I've heard him count "1, 2, and 4" so maybe Half Life 4? -
They're taking it like WFNA is the state of the art, as opposed to an option slightly easier than hydrazine. The part they're missing there is that ALL rocket propellants are dangerous as hell and fully capable of violently turning your day south at any time given the wrong care.

We all know how good for the environment fertilizers are...and how safe they are to expose yourself to.

I would never stand that close to our kerosene-gOx engine... Some university teams put their engines inside metal shipping containers for hot fire tests. When the pressurized propellants start entering the thrust chamber, they don't burn right away. There is a big black cloud that leaves the nozzle without burning. Then the ignition occurs and lights up that material that's already outside the engine. It looks like they might have made more of a flamethrower than a rocket. The video doesn't provide any thrust data, and I wonder if they even have the sense to put a load cell on the back of the thing.

https://imgur.com/a/mY2uUuJ Today I launched a booster, it ran out of power before it could return, so I launched a spaceplane to give it solar power! And recovered the spaceplane! Now for the booster...

Kerbal Space Program 2: Episode 5 - Interstellar Travel
cubinator replied to StarSlay3r's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Looks like either a protoplanetary disk or a planet and moon both with rings. The devs have mentioned that the young star system they've been telling us about would have lots of planets with rings.- 344 replies
