[New] Space Launch System / Orion Discussion Thread
cubinator replied to ZooNamedGames's topic in Science & Spaceflight
One thing you learn from being around rockets: there is always time for something to go wrong, no matter how many tests you run nor how many papers you certify. -
Crew-3 has slipped to Nov. 6th at 11:36 PM EDT

Solution to the minmus paradox
cubinator replied to Newgame space program's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
My headcanon was that it was salt, hence the terrible taste. Glass would not be delicious, but it would probably be a more neutral taste (John Young reported that Moon dust didn't taste half bad) Salt might also be able to explain how the flats formed - perhaps if Minmus was a fragment of an early icy planet, and there were some layers of ice or water underneath that vaporized as Minmus approached the Sun, and now there is almost entirely only salt left. -
Plonk?!?!?!? don't worry Nate I've got ya.

"Donk" makes me want to build a structure out of ladders and catwalks where Kerbals jump over barrels. -

[New] Space Launch System / Orion Discussion Thread
cubinator replied to ZooNamedGames's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Put Orion literally INSIDE of the Starship and land the whole entire thing on the Moon. Put a giant enough airlock in the Starship that Orion can float into the pressurized section and the astronauts can simply get out through the rescue hatch. -
Maybe a couple whiteboard sketches.

Ksp2 celestial bodies discussion thread!
cubinator replied to Hyperspace Industries's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
I was thinking it could have been a giant ball of salt. But glass works too. -
The first part after the calibration shows the planets around Kerbol, and a marker under the third planet Kerbin. Then, there is a rocket firing, and I think the last part is a space Kraken.

Less van Allen belt exposure would be worth quite a bit to me if I were riding it. -
heh, I was just drilling holes in steel yesterday with a hand drill. For a rocket, too.

Seriously, though, if SLS keeps launching into 2050 without upgrading to a much larger and more powerful block, we will be back to hoping for Mars missions in the 30s...The 2130s. -
Petition for Squad to make Human Space Program

I agree about the Kerbals' silliness and that it would have been less fun of a game if it had all the elements of RSS & RO from the start. I like that those are options (they could be easier to set up...and the 30 degree inclination on the solar system makes it unplayable for me) and maybe in KSP 2 they could have a "hard mode" where the planets are 10x bigger (real scale) and the parts balanced a bit more realistically. For me, personally, there is: -KSP stock (easy mode) -KSP with RSS & realism mods, etc. (hard mode) -Actually becoming an aerospace engineer in real life (very hard mode) I almost feel like I might want to regress into easy mode once in a while once I'm doing very hard mode for a job. -
I've also heard that astronauts miss the distinction between standing and sitting in a chair. So even if you don't stick to the seat, maybe a chair would be nice. Huge open spaces, on the other hand...I'd want to run some bungee ropes across.

Oof. That's worse than the Apollo 10 turd incident.

Ah yes, the rocket engineering and space science consultants in the white house. They know how to make these things work well.

As long as it gets me from one planet to another in one piece, I'm pretty happy.

The tower looks like it's holding a gun from that angle.

Cause I really want Mars to be the thing that kills me.

Wow, NASA getting something done in several hours! -
I thought mods vs. users was banned. But I guess this thread is already locked, so it's ok.

'As soon as possible' is always the best time to nip that in the bud.
