That is fantastic. I would personally go with a slightly higher orbit myself, to see the tail structure better, but you've done an amazing job. I wonder what it looks like to stand on the Mun in the middle of the ion stream?

How many hours have you played KSP for?
cubinator replied to GuessingEveryDay's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Like 4 or 5 thousand hours since early 2013. -
"Gradatim gradatim", so they say.
-
Nope.

I just need a few cables from my friend tomorrow, and our rocket will be fully constructed and ready for flight! -
That's a really good direction to be going in for rockets. Up until now, the moment it becomes cheaper to build a new one was when the empty stage dropped into the sea.

There's those high winds again. I'm telling you, he wants to land one on Jupiter. Is TWR above 2.5?

Well, looks like I did this today without even knowing it! I have a little 3-Kerbal glider designed to land on a single unicycle wheel. https://imgur.com/a/oVBPgxh https://kerbalx.com/cubinator/Mini-Plane I didn't quite glide all the way to the surface, but with a little careful flying you could get it down with enough speed.

Radial decoupler that I attached the wrong way because I was lazy.

The Orbits of CLOUD-ONE Space Station
cubinator replied to cubinator's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Thanks for the recommendation! I don't think I'll use it for this station, but maybe in the future I could use it for something else. -
images ^ A silly little reentry vessel for three Kerbals. I tested this exactly zero times before using it to return from Minmus. I did a Mun flyby to reduce speed, slowed down further with the lander stage's remaining fuel, and kept a shallow reentry profile with a periapsis around 45-50 km. This was sufficient to keep heating at acceptable levels throughout the flight. Unfortunately I lost too much speed before nearing the ground and was not able to try out the unicycle landing gear, but in any case it is perfectly safe to land in. Probably the silliest reentry vehicle I've ever made, but it works almost flawlessly and is pretty safe!

What’s the first thing you’ll do in ksp2?
cubinator replied to Lewie's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
First thing I will do is colonize Minmus. -
Random Science Facts Thread!
cubinator replied to Grand Ship Builder's topic in Science & Spaceflight
An average person would be strong enough (on Earth) to lift all the consumables needed to feed themselves insects on Mars for 1000 days (974 sols). -
And another precisely timed loss of signal during the deployment. I wonder why that happens.
-
FAIRING!

If SLS was more like Saturn-Shuttle I'd agree. And if they didn't use RS-25s on an expendable stage. And if SLS could even match the mass-to-orbit of Saturn V.
-
I got the impression they were taking it real easy the whole way up. MECO happened at like 90 kilometers, and they took over two minutes to get above 100 km. No pushing envelopes, just a slow, paced ride to orbit.

The Orbits of CLOUD-ONE Space Station
cubinator replied to cubinator's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Back in Action With the return of Naleon 1 from Moho, the space program again has enough funds to launch another vessel! We may be sending some simple auxiliary ships to certain worlds to build up money reserves so that we can really make CLOUD-ONE ready for a full exploration of Jool. Then again, going to Jool will net us a lot of funds in the first place...How about we do both, then? I have lots of ideas of what to do next, but I also have to go to school soon... -
Damn. You know what they should do, they should send one to Mars. Mars is pretty Mars-like.
-
I've always thought they should do a long-duration test run to Antarctica. Fly there, land the Starship, mine ice for a few months to refuel, and fly home.

I saw Mars last night over a lightning storm. It's a lot of space between here and there.
