  1. Thanks! As to prove my point: "I didn't need this bit anyway" Nope, didn't need it. Also, centered lift is overrated.
  2. Look at all of you with your puny airoplanes. They're so microscopic in size, I'm afraid I'd step on them. Hence I bring forth, the M-GS-1 Battlecruiser. Designed to withstand more punishment than most KSP airplanes can withstand. It's VTOL, has super-unmanoeuvrability, holds more guns than the average military base and will kick yo ass. The aircraft may not look like much, but it's suprisingly durable. Where most aircraft would go down when one wing is lost, this aircraft has survived loss of wings, engine clusters, horizontal thrusters, et cetera, and still be able to operate and land after the mission has been completed. Gunfire from a distance, unless concentrated or in large quantities, doesn't pose a real threat to it. It's designed to take out both aircraft and ground targets, the first of which is taken care of by guided missiles and turrets, the last of which by an array of laser-guided missiles, Hydra turrets and gunturrets. Very awesome to fly this thing, even more awesome to see it being torn to shreds by sustained fire.
  3. I can spaghettify my Kerbals at will, using various techniques. One way is to airdrop them out of a cargo bay, and at certain altitude, pitches and speeds they will collide with the cargo bay and spaghettify. Another way is more difficult to explain, but comes down to the difficulty of climbing on a Rover, ending up inside a metal panel... Obviously, a fitting solution would be to spaghettify and end up with a km's long set of limbs... Very amusing
  4. Nice one Heimder! What in the world do you feed your kerbals that they have become all Hulky and stuff Your points calculation is correct, but you weren't required to run the course. I'm giving you a 4 minute point reduction for the extra effort, so your total score will be 2085
  5. @Lego8_bit, I'm a bit unsure about Tweakscale and procedural parts (because I do not know to what extent part weight is scaled correctly), but B9's procedural wings are allowed, since they work in the same aero-soup-model as other parts. Also, there is a trade-off between downforce and drag, and so the top speed. Good luck! @Heimder, I look forward to your video!
  6. That's the problem I'm encountering as well. Creating downforce works to some extent, but with 1.1.3. wheels I have the feeling that friction only comes into play when the wheel is at an AoA from the vector from which it is travelling, whilst in real life, friction decreases when the AoA becomes greater. Maybe the Dev's should enter the race to see the problems with the wheels
  7. @Heimder, with flips I mean flips along the vertical axis, not the horizontal ones, those are called spins. I am afraid I cannot deduce points on your time of 4:10. Still, your ride looks nice and you the jumps well! Your score will be 250 points, which is a big improvement on your old score! Yes, you may use it's power indirectly Nice entry @MiniMatt, gotto love those mishaps, very recognisable. Looks like you have very little wheel friction though, you could either manually increase that, or you could use spoilers (and perhaps add it to action groups to deploy when necessary to provide extra downforce). Your score of 186 (the 'flips' you mention do not count, I'm afraid) will go on the board!
  8. Thank you I was just guessing the amount of parts you must have lost. Score updated!
  9. You requested the tonnage of the space station I sent into orbit, it's weight is 27.268 kg
  10. Well, I have the Alfa C and Alfa D (of which the Alfa D is displayed here). It can carry a maximum payload of 6000 kg into the Kerbin SOI. For smaller or larger rockets I've found a SRB powered first stage to be too unreliable, due to a complete lack of thrust control and thrust vectoring.
  11. @Burning For New Frontiers, you cannot enter in the regular category, but due to popular demand the "Wacky Racers" category has now been opened. @ScriptKitt3h, you may enter your tank onto the field in the new Wacky Racers category. I'm still working on a armoured assault course, so once that's done you can fully test your tank on the test-track. @The Optimist, you can now enter your prop-driven craft into the Wacky Racers category
  12. Well, this challenge is certainly... taking up speed Anyway, great entries again. @DoctorDavinci, your rover seems pretty much frictionless... either you've tweaked with those controles (which is fine, btw), or the downforce of your craft is low. You could either make your craft heavier, use spoilers to create downforce or use mechanical force (e.g. monoprop) to create more downforce. Nice entry as well Minimatt Nice old skool looking race-rover! Nope. You can freely use 2 sepatrons for EXTRA POWERRRR. Keremy wishes it. For the Ultimate Challenge, use of sepatrons is without limits, but comes with a time penalty. The idea about it is to be able to negotiate difficult terrain by having the ability to use power surges. Nice entry btw, I'll update the scores. Usage of FAR is also allowed. Like you said, the aero-effects are very little at those speeds.
  13. @Heimder, It isn't all about the scores, it's all about the doors. Great ride! @rocketengineer1982 I look forward to your entry!
  14. Some cosmetic clipping is allowed, but your rover should have the room for all the parts it needs, without clipping them. So no 2 solar panels clipped, or RTG's inside eachother, et cetera. @The Optimist, the current rules and regulations do not allow such an entry... However, since @ScriptKitt3h also wants to try out different vehicle styles, I'll include a freestyle course in the short term where you can go full out in creativity @Hesp, very nice! I'll update the leaderboard and include your entry, minus the points for the parts lost
  15. I like this challenge, and might take it on, I just have a few concerns regarding the rules. First of all, I should place the use of probes into the points system, since they are far lighter (and more importantly, smaller) for the same functionality. Kerballed craft will probably be outgunned by a similar probe aircraft, since it's lighter and a smaller target. Second, I have a few suggestion regarding the points system. I've battled myself quite often (with approx 15 different jets), and have come to the conclusion that the AIM-120 is stupidly powerful, the AIM-6 is underwhelming, and so forth. So I suggest the following: 1. Limit the use of Chaff and Flares by an absolute number or increase points. 2. increase the points price of the AIM-120. Or just ban it outright; I've seen aircraft be constantly and almost always be obliterated by it, or almost always miss. How and why are unknown to me, because I always set a chaff/flare limit on my aircraft..
  16. @The Optimist, only rover engines (and two sepatrons) are allowed. If you entend to complete the course by blowing at your screen to move your rover around, please surprise me @Hesp, Nicely done, like the way you have your Formula Rover outfitted with two different tyres. I look forward to an improved version! @qzgy, perhaps, maybe, maybe not... It's classified. @The_Rocketeer, Still, you should be at P3 atm @Nathaniel411, you mean, offsetting parts on your craft? That's allowed of course
  17. Absolutely great looking Rover @Chemp and a good time there! You're in for five bonus seconds as well it seems. I'll enter your score in the leaderboard.
  18. @ScriptKitt3h, what is the weight of your tank? I'll think about a different race challenges where shooting targets of opportunity grants you bonus points. I'll get back to you once I've come up with something. Edit: OP updated, I hope that the upcoming challenge suits your request. @Moarmau5, you can use landing gears!
  19. For the time being I'm allowing two entries at a time (one per category). Should this challenge be popular I'll make subcategories and extra challenges to provide room for more design types you can always enter a new vehicle should your old one be beaten. Of course, you may elaborate on your request for multiple entries and if the reasoning seems okay I'll change the rules!
  20. Good question! Take Command is allowed. However, the kerbal must be seated and visible in the command chair. Every kerbal increases weight of the vehicle, but only when it is visibly seated in the command chair. Take Command models it as a command pod and thus doesn't account for weight of kerbals I'll update the OP when I'm at my pc.
  21. THE CHALLENGE Due to contractual problems with Kerbals Broadcasting Interesting Things TV (Kbit TV), Keremy Klarkson is starting up his own TV-show, and has come to the KSC for a location and some racing rovers. Unfortunately, the rovers provided by KSC's developer going by the ominous name of "Squad" have not even slightly met the requirements of Keremy, and as such he calls upon you to enter your best rover to race around the KSC test-track. The Challenge is simple: One must complete the test-track, starting from the spawn-point on the runway, up to the finish line at the top of the hill. Best time wins. Alternatively, you can enter ZE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE, where you must drive your rover from the spawn-point up to the flag called "The ultimate challenge". Best time wins. SCORING, RULES AND LIMITATIONS General scoring and rules (applies to all categories) Scoring is simple: your time (in seconds) is your score. However, total score may be influenced by the following penalties and bonuses: Per part lost underway, a 5 second penalty is implied. Per succesful "accidental" flip (along the vertical axis), a 15 second bonus is implied Per extra kerbal, a 5 second bonus is in place, you can bring a maximum of 6 kerbals. Should you be unable to finish, you can stop at flag number TEN. However, a 240 seconds penalty is in place. Rules: Your rover must be manned. Your rover must have an antenna for radio reception (The Stig requests it). Your rover may only be powered by the rover's wheels, but you may use a maximum of two sepatrons for EXTRA POWERRRR. You are allowed to create extra downforce using downward thrusters of any kind. (yes, this includes the Mainsail). Cheating is not allowed, the settings in the save-file may not be changed. So no unbreakable joints, et cetera. Quicksaves and reloads are allowed, since this implies having to stop and accelerate (costing time), do please mention if you have had to quickload. Should you pop a tire, you may fix this. There is no penalty for this (other than the time lost). Power sources: All power sources (solar, RTG, Fuel cells) are allowed. Only non intrusive Mods allowed (so KIS/KAS are allowed, but no wheel mods) The use of landing gears is allowed. Mod: Take command is allowed, however, the Kerbals must be visibly seated in the command chairs. All command pods are allowed. Rules for "The Ultimate Challenge" General rules and scoring applies, unless overruled by the rules stated below. For the ultimate challenge, per seperaton used, a 5 second penalty is put in place. The usage of sepatrons is unlimited. Rules for "The Wacky Races" (For racers that do not fit in the general category) General rules and scoring applies, unless overruled by the rules stated below. Your rover may NOT be powered by jets or rockets or monopropellant, but may be powered by all other means. Surprise me THE TRACK The track: SAVE FILE (place in your saves folder) The Rover Test Track is a test track where Keremy Klarkson tests the latest in auto-motive design. The track is designed around a local spaceport and features tight bends, jumps and a hill climb. Lastly, completing the ultimate challenge (flag) by rover only grants you instant entry to the wall of fame and admission into the OP. The track is from start (runway) to FINISH around 14,5 km long. Track lay-out Run around of the track, please view for your own sake. WALL OF FAME Leaderboard Keremy's Test Track, lowest score wins @quasarrgames with 161 points @Hesp with 170 points @ajburges with 173 points @EpicSpaceTroll139 with 175 points @quasarrgames with 183 points @MiniMatt with 186 points @rocketengineer1982 with 216 points @Chempwith 221 points @DoctorDavinci with 242 points @Heimder with 250 points Gatecrasher: @EpicSpaceTroll139 with -54 points Leaderboard Wacky Racers, lowest score wins. @EpicSpaceTroll139 entering with a rotax powered, eh, landplane? with 194 points Leaderboard The Ultimate Challenge, lowest score wins @Hesp with 1664 points @Heimder with 2085 points In your post, please mention your total time (in seconds), bonusses and penalties. Also, post pictures of passing every flag or post a video as proof Upcoming expansions on Keremy's Test Track (to be included later): Downhill fury: After the Finish, race on to the waterline. The semi-ultimate challenge: After the finish of Downhill fury, head back to KSC and jumpjet onto the VAB. The jet-challenge: Only jet-engines allowed, no rover engines. The rocket-challenge: Only rocket engines allowed. Armoured Assault: Race your tank to the finish, taking out targets of opportunity and defensive structures along the way. If interested, please share your battletanks and defensive structures, I'll then make a selection of what will be put in the game. The ultimate goal of this challenge is to improve your rover building skills (since building a good rover is rather difficult), as well as be able to share your best working rovers with the community.
  22. Everything can be an escapepod if you look through a kerbal's eyes
  23. I should've clarified a bit... it was the fastest German propeller aircraft of WWII, though I did know about the aircraft you mentioned, I somehow forgot...
  24. Maybe you can alter an existing auto-pilot for rover use (with permission of the authors, of course)? Such an auto-pilot gives you a framework to work on, for example in regards of heading and throttle control. As far as slopes and biomes are regarded, isn't it possible to use map info from Scansat for that? That also gives you a reason to map a planet extensively
