Cygnus launch Sunday(12-6-15)
Delta_8930 replied to SuperFastJellyfish's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The upgraded Antares 230 with RD-181 engines will also allow enhanced Cygnus to carry more cargo than the original Antares, but it is much less powerful than Atlas V. And we're ready to launch! -
Cygnus launch Sunday(12-6-15)

Yep. The pressurized module is longer than the 1st gen Cygnus. There were also upgrades to the propellant module to make it lighter and the Dutch-made solar panels were replaced with Orbital ATK's "Ultraflex" circular solar array. -

I'm pretty impressed with how Atlas V has a 30 minute launch window. The answer lies in the Centaur upper stage. The Centaur is very versatile and has a lot of extra performance in this flight, since it only needs to get into LEO. Centaurs have done missions ranging from GTO to interplanetary trajectories. -

We're now holding at T-4 minutes. It will be a 10 minute hold. Next launch attempt is 5:48:12 EST. -
What happened to the logos on the Atlas V launch tower? When Atlas V was still managed by Lockheed Martin, the Lockheed Martin logo was painted onto the side of the Atlas launch tower. When ULA took over AV operations, they painted "Atlas" onto the launch tower, along with a bunch of other logos, like this: Sometime in 2013, the logos disappeared from the launch tower. According to my records, the last Atlas V launch which used the tower with the logos was GPS IIF-4. Pictures from the MUOS-2 launch, which followed the GPS IIF-4 launch, showed the tower missing its logos. There are faint smudges in the places where the logos used to be. Currently, the launch tower looks like this: Does anyone know what happened to the logos and if it was deliberate, why did ULA decide to do that?

[1.7.2] KK Launchers - Delta, Atlas Pack
Delta_8930 replied to Kartoffelkuchen's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
AWESOME!!!! I'M SO HYPED!!!! -
@fredinno Having 6 SRBs on a Delta II will create an immensely huge TWR ratio that will exert a lot of G-forces on the rocket (and the payload). Once the SRBs burn out the RS-27A engine (which is relatively low thrust at 1,054.2 kn in vacuum) will have a hard time getting the velocity to increase due to the heavy payload. Light payloads launched by Delta 732x and 742x rockets do not have this problem as the RS-27A engine can just keep on pushing the payload along.

In the settings screen, if you turn down rendering to the "fantastic" and aerodynamic fx to "minimal", it should work. I had a very similar issue and now KSP works fine. Also, you might want to adjust the "max-Physics Delta Time-Frame" setting. If you turn it to the right, the game will work smoothly, but it will be slow because it is attempting accurate calculations. If you turn it to the left, the game will be fast, but it will not be as smooth because the physics calculations are not as accurate as the smooth setting. I hope this helps!

Engine FX not showing I am using KSP v1.0.5.1024. Sometimes when I want to restart my engine the FX does not show up. For example, I am going to a high altitude circular orbit around kerbin (apoapsis 9910 km). The engine works fine during the initial burn to place it into a highly elliptical transfer orbit, but when I restart the engine at the apoapsis in order to circularize my orbit, the engine fx does not show up, yet I can plainly see the engine is turned on since my velocity is increasing and my periapsis is also increasing. Does anyone else have this problem, and does anyone know of a solution to this? Thanks

(WIP) The Martian Rockets
Delta_8930 replied to MajorLeaugeRocketScience's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Well in the movie, the obviously couldn't create a bunch of new rockets. They showed the Atlas V-541 (MSL) for the first portion of Delta IX flight and an early Delta (I think it was a 3914 model) for the disintegration. It was obviously from the failed GOES-G launch, where the RS-27 engine shut down and the rocket toppled over. For the Taiyang Shen launch, they simply showed a bunch of clips from the Atlas V-401 (DMSP-5D3 F19) launch. -
[1.7.2] KK Launchers - Delta, Atlas Pack
Delta_8930 replied to Kartoffelkuchen's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
As Kartoffelkuchen said, it's not the model itself that causes lag. Rather, it's complex colliders and high-res textures that cause the lag. If people have lag when they use this mod, maybe we could release a Low-res version? -
@Hcube Yes, the second stage is pretty small. The tanks are about the same length as the engine. But the engine is pretty efficient in a vacuum, since it has an extended nozzle. Sort of reminds me of the Falcon 9 v1.0 second stage. Another fun fact: In the final years of the Delta II, the second stage tanks had its production shifted from Colorado to Thales Alenia in Italy.

Still, those textures and models are of a pretty good quality -

I think it might have something to do with the Unity 5 shaders -
I think all you have to do is to add the ModuleSurfaceFX. I tested it on a engine that had no surface fx and it worked fine. Thanks!

Which skybox did you use to get the milky way? -
Yep. One of the failures was when the rocket exploded above the pad with a GPS satellite. I think the other failure was when one of the boosters failed to separate which stranded a satellite in a lower orbit than planned. There are currently three Delta IIs unflown. Two of those have been assigned to NASA missions (JPSS-1 and ICESAT-2). The fate of the last one remains unclear. I read an article about how the last Delta II might be donated to the Smithsonian.

I actually kind of like the new forum layout, but the fact that non-latin characters get translated into some mumbo jumbo and messed up OPs is unacceptable. Maybe Squad can implement a fix so everything is more "user friendly".

Welcome to Rocket of the Week! This week(12/8/15-12/15/15)'s featured rocket: Delta III Rocket of the Week is a place where we will feature one rocket that is currently operational, retired, or planned. A new rocket will be featured each week. All members are welcome to comment about the featured rocket and even make suggestions about rockets that should be showcased the following week. Sometimes polls will be held for members to vote on their favorite rocket. Also, if the rocket is available in a KSP mod, it will be showcased as well. This is a place for all rocketry enthusiasts to gather and to talk about rockets (and sometimes spaceflight)! This week's featured rocket will be the Zenit-3 rocket, which likely made its last flight on December 11, 2015. Links to previous (or current) featured rockets of the week: Delta II: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/126822-rocket-of-the-week-delta-iii/&do=findComment&comment=2315493 Delta III: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/126822-rocket-of-the-week-delta-iii/&do=findComment&comment=2315504 Zenit 3: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/127481-final-flight-of-zenit/ Rocket of the week is a place where real-world rockets will be featured. It is meant to give people more information on real-world rockets, and hopefully influence some rockets that are being built in KSP. My goal is to provide information about these rockets that will give people sufficient information on these rockets, which can be famous or forgotten. I hope to bring these rockets to life through weekly informative posts about these rockets to the KSP community. Enjoy!

We could use AR-1, but that won't be ready until 2021. Also does anyone know what happened to the AJ26-500, AJ-1E6, and if the AR-1 has any influences from NK-33?

I think the one of how everything got deleted from September 2012 to April 2013 is especially funny

Will the 1.1 version come with launch pad smoke (when the engines ignite)?
