1. Didn't manage to land too close to the KSC, but I had fun trying my first asteroid snatching mission.
2. From the Northrop Grumman challenge, for inspiration.
3. Here is my proof of concept submission! Parts: 32 Mass: 1.6t Height: 2.7m Engineering Score: 12 Piloting Score: 32 Grand Total: 44
4. The premise of this challenge is simple- Launch, land, return. In the spirit of the Northrop Grumman Lunar Lander Challenge, the goal here is to make a small and compact rocket that can land 100 meters away on a target (anything placed on the launch pad can work.) Points are awarded based on accuracy, distance, size, and compactness. Any forms of propulsion are allowed, though I think a nuclear powered entry may be difficult with stock parts. I will be adding my own entry as a proof of concept soon. Have fun and good luck! RULES: Must be unkerballed. Must reach altitude of at least 100m. Must have an antenna (avionics hub counts.) Cannot be (much) larger than a FL-T400 (avoid 2.5m parts.) Cannot weigh more than 5 tons. Informational mods are allowed, as is using mods to move your rocket closer to the target. Must have something at the launchpad to serve as a target. Stock parts only, no tweak scale. SCORING: Note: If you do something special like landing on top of a tall tower of microstruts, then you are welcome to add extra points. Engineering Below 1 ton: 10 points 1 to 2 tons: 5 points 3 tons and up: 2 points Shorter than 1m: 10 points 1 to 2 meters tall: 5 points 3+ meters tall: 2 points Below 10 parts: 15 points 10-20 parts: 10 points 30+ parts: 5 points Piloting From 50m away: +5 From 100m away: +10 From 150m away: +12 From 200m away: +15 From more than 250m away: +20 On target: +15 On launchpad: +10 Near launchpad: +5 Not even close to launchpad: +0.5 (participation award) Landing on a destroyed launchpad with scattered parts: +15 (Level 2) Return to launch site: +5 LEADERBOARDS: Engineering ?????: ??Points ?????: ??Points ?????: ??Points Piloting ?????: ??Points ?????: ??Points ?????: ??Points Grand Total ?????: ??Points ?????: ??Points ?????: ??Points
5. Oh I see! That makes sense, thanks for taking the time to reply.
6. Does the all flights must be manned rule apply to the space station, or could you have unmanned modules?
7. Is the sled ever going to be un-cut or is it a permanently cut feature with no hope of returning? It seems like it could be a nice part to be able to use. Otherwise this mod is lots of fun! All the parts look nice and work well, and the animations on the reindeer are especially nice. Edit: I figured I'd share something I made with this, to sort of show the kinds of things you can do with this mod. So, without further ado, I present the first reindeer powered "spaceplane" to make it to the munar surface and back.
8. Okay ! I guess it'll just take some practice to figure out how to match up with the inclination and eccentricity! Thanks for the help.
9. I was planning on trying for thee second star but I'm confused about how to get to gilly, I couldn't find any tutorials so I was wondering if anyone could give me a quick rundown on how to get from eve to gilly?
10. Meet the swamp pig! Parts Used: 1- MK2 Cockpit 7- Modular Girder Segments 10- Ruggedized Wheels 1- MK2 L. Fuelselage short 1- MK2 to 1.25 adapter many struts (dismanted girders) 5- cubic octagonal struts (reconstructed girders) Radiators, 3 RTGs, 2 1x6 solar panels, Shielded docking port & Ladder, concealed reaction wheel [imgur]gdSbE[/imgur] It drives pretty whell despite the wheels being horrifically misaligned and having varying states of steering, inversion, brake torque, and motor action. Most of the time the girder on the front makes a pretty good braking aid but sometimes it will launch the cockpit off of the rest of the pig. I think this fits all the criteria, as well as looking pretty fitting for the situation. A quick and easy challenge, but very fun nonetheless!
11. I managed to get to orbit and return, I forgot to take a screenshot of the rocket at the beginning but it started with three twin boars. Other than the boosters, this shows everything. It was a fun challenge! Tomorrow I'm going to go for the second star. [imgur]npZvS[/imgur]
12.
If you use HE's Ship Lander then you can paste the coordinates right in.
One thing I've learned from experience is that using HE to go to eve orbit, moving the orbit until you're above where you want to land, and aligning your rocket BEFORE using the ship lander makes getting your rocket to land much easier (basically aligning it so it lands straight up helps a lot.) Edit: There are other ways of doing it, i just find aligning in orbit easier than in atmosphere.
13.
Nice, screenshots are kind of dark (well, on ipad they were), you should take them at about noon in-game time for best lighting. Also, you need to post the licence into the post as per the rules.
You're right, they are kind of dark- I put the screenshots together pretty quickly so I'll probably take some more with better lighting. - - - Updated - - -
Lol if only I could put suitcases on my long range nuclear bombers. Then again, 90% of the kerbals on so bombers never return.
You may be able to, they're pretty small and light so it'd just be a matter of placement.
14. This isn't anything special, just something I put together quickly to try it out. I didn't get the exact fuel consumption, but it didn't use much. [imgur]r1Adb[/imgur] Plane: Stacked Snout Time: 18:58/14:08 Weight: 9.4t Fuel Consumption/Per Passenger: N/A Crew: 9 G-Force: 5.7G
15. After four hours of work, most of which was small tweaks, I managed to make a pretty good suborbital eve rocket- so if there's a half star I've earned that. This challenge is more frustrating than I expected it to be, even just the first tier of it. I'll pick up where I left off later, but I'm done for now.
16. This may be a stupid question, but how do you get your craft to the launching point on Eve? I know the basics of hyperedit, but from my understanding you have to orbit Eve before you can use the landing tool because otherwise the game will break and your ship will explode, but whenever I go from orbit to landing my rocket is tilted oddly and I was wondering if there was some trick to aligning your ship or if the only way to do it is to make a wide base with a bunch of 2.5m reaction wheels and try to straighten the ship out?
17. A new array of (four) parts fresh from the Shipping and Packaging Incorporated factories! This mod currently includes two lines of suitcases, the basic briefcases (hold 1 kerbal each) and the XL Stacked Luggage Carriers (hold 3 kerbals each.) The engineers at SaPI also specially designed heat resistant and crash resistant variants for the more accident prone pilots. NEW!!! Shipping and Packaging Inc. has released a new line of bigger, better, roomier, and pinker suitcases! (Now on Spacedock!) License: All rights reserved. Known issues- -Placement in editor is odd -With the basic suitcase, once on EVA kerbals can reenter the suitcase through witchcraft -There is no way of getting back into the reinforced suitcases
18. I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but it seems like the Sidewheeler Starboard part doesn't have an attachment point but the Port side one does! I just thought I'd point this out, although it seems like using two Port side parts and reverting the thrust of one of them works fine. Also, this might not be a mistake but the intake is unlocked separately from most of the other parts, meaning its possible to unlock all the engines without actually being able to use them yet.
