Any news on the Saturn Tower set ?

Progress.... I finished the modeling and the animations, but the textures are a different story. The Saturn V towers are by far the most complex models I've ever made, so the textures are far beyond my capabilities. I've sent the textures to a friend so now we just wait. I'll continue working on other towers while I wait. I haven't finished much for the Saturn 1b, as there aren't many pictures to use as reference. I'll probably just do the "milk-stool" and call it done.

Awesome! Will you be adding the slight retraction at T-4 Minutes and then the full retraction at liftoff for the 39A TEL? Also thanks for the reply :)

Already did! The manual button that on other pads would retract the tower all the way now opens the claws and slightly retracts the TEL, with the full retraction occurring at liftoff.

If you ever get back to doing this pack (I understand IRL things can get in the way) Would there be any chance of a Vandenberg TEL? Thanks.

Vandenberg is a good idea. Lately I've been working on updating the FH tower at 39A based on what was seen at the first real launch with that tower, including making a copy of it for the F9 configuration. Expect to see that soon.

Could you please update the SpaceDock pages for these towers? That page still has the old versions for 1.1.3

I plan to upload an update soon, few last bug checks and should be good to go!

Yeah, I thought of something like that too, but that'd going to be reaaally complicated, and I'd like to concentrate more on the things you actually fly instead of wasting time on a super accurate, fully functional tower. If there's a relatively low-effort way of doing it, I'll do, otherwise, no.

If you'd like to focus on the ITS itself, I can work on the launch pad and tower as part of my Launch Towers Pack.

BDB linked in my signature is working in exactly what you want.

I'll loom at both BDB and  RSB as far as the booster is concerned. I'll probably just make it compatible with both.

SSTU also has an apollo CSM at the right proportions, but not size (it's only 64% of the actual one), you'd need to rescale it by a factor of 1.5625, but it's only three parts (Service Module, Crew Module and LAS)

EDIT: btw, would it be possible to have the "stool" for the Saturn IB
    10076044.jpg
    ASTP_Saturn_IB.jpg

and a version for a cargo Saturn?
    Skylab%20day%20before%20launch.jpg

SSTU looks interesting, but it doesn't have the LEM.

Milk-stool was already planned, and a cargo variant should be easy.

Well, if you'd like, @NecroBones has a Saturn V in his RSB pack which I think is scaled down to 6.25m in the stockalike patches, and that's the scale that BDB's Saturn V will be at. No offence to anyone that uses it but FASA is sort of outdated, and it's scale is... questionable. I think you should calculate it based on a 6.25m S-Ic/S-II. :)

I've looked at RSB, and yes its exactly what I'm looking for as far as scale is concerned, but the problem I see is I cant find an Apollo SpaceCraft to sit on top. FASA is the only mod I've found with an Apollo SpaceCraft that is updated. If someone can point me in the direction of an Apollo Spacecraft of the right scale, I'd appreciate it.

I was mainly just kidding... Sometimes I try to be humorous, and I fail miserably... :P

I've always loved the Saturn V, and I've always wanted to make a tower for, but I could never find accurate drawings.... until now. I found a site with some of the original engineering drawings, meaning clear documents with the exact dimensions.  It's awesome.

Oh okay but totally digging that tower of yours but I thought FASA could be rescaled from RSS. But nvm.

I can look at it and see if that'll work. I don't use RSS. When I say "real scale" I don't mean RSS. What I mean is that most mods for KSP are around 65% of their actual size, where as I prefer them to be their actual size, like in Kart's launchers pack. I'll see if the RSS recale is the right size. If so, I'll include a module manager config to rescale it.

Do you think you will ever make the strongback able to fully retract and extend so you can use it like the real Falcon 9 and go from horizontal to vertical?

I'd love to, but unfortunately it doesn't work. Animations will move the part itself, and it's collides, but not the attachment nodes or anything attached to it. I learned that while trying to make an animated docking port like the APAS system on the shuttle, or the NDS on the upcoming Dragon V2 or CST-100.

  8. Here's some progress on Saturn V

    jeqUiqS.jpg

Main Tower and pad are done. Working on adding all the swing arms, then the tail service mounts and hold down points.

Next I'll work on a pad for Saturn 1b, and then lastly the "milkstool" for the Saturn 1b.

@sciencepanda So when can we expect full Saturn V-style towers?... I'm sure BDB's latest Apollo project would complement them nicely :)

I like the sound of that.... only problem is there are so many different Saturn V mods it's hard to pick one. I like to use mods that are full scale, like Kart's mods. I'll start working on something... that way I can try out different Saturn mods to see which one fits the proper dimensions.

  10. Hi guys,

Sorry for the late reply, I was on vacation.... and also real life took priority.

If you could add fuel-pumping to the umbilicals that would be a godsend.

Not a bad idea, I'll look into it. Really the limiting factor is both what is possible in game, and what I know how to do. I've had plenty of ideas that either the game wont support or I don't know how to do. I believe what you're suggesting is possible, just not 100% sure how to do it.

@sciencepanda What would you say the chances are of adding a retractable crew-access arm with walkway and "white-room" for manned launch-vehicles?

I thought about that. Maybe I'll work on that next.

Looks like our guy is busy with his actual life, graduating and preparing for college. Which he really should do, considering that this is just a game :P

@ sciencepanda if you're reading this: I totally get that you'll have much less time modding - so I'm asking you up-front: would you mind if someone took over your work sooner or later?

    Thank you :)

Yes I am getting pretty busy with real life, but I have no intention of completely abandoning my projects. I enjoy modding and it gives me something to do in my down time, even though that down time may be getting more and more rare. If it ever does get to a point where I just simply don't have any time, I will probably hand it off to someone else. For now I don't see that happening any time soon, so I won't bother worrying about it until then.

  11. Sorry for the delay, vacation and real life happened...

Anyway, the update with the 1.0 tower is now live: http://spacedock.info/mod/626/SpaceX%20Launch%20Towers

    Have fun!

In addition, I wanted to ask for your opinion. I originally started this mod to include the launch pads for SpaceX rockets, but how would you guys feel about expanding this mod pack to include ULA towers too? I'd start with a tower for Kart's Atlas V. I'd change the name from SpaceX Launch Towers to Launch Towers Pack. Thoughts?

I would like the F9 v1.0 launch tower, please. I see a while back you made one, I would like that one please, with some touching up.

I Totally forgot about that!!!! Thank you so much for the reminder. I'll get working on that soon.

  13. Update on Progress

So I've finished modeling a new ASDS. I've imported them into the game, but I'm still waiting on textures..... I've also added thrusters to help move the ASDS to water, and move it in water.

    So obviously I brought pictures.

    Water.

Also, I found a glitch. It likes to jump for joy whenever you return to it after stepping away.

Make sure to either ask for permission or give proper credit if you are going to rip textures and models from other peoples work

I'm not suggesting to use the same arrays. The ones in that mod are for Orion, not ISS. I'm just suggesting to perhaps inquire how they were set up in blender/unity/cfg to allow them to rotate in that way. It would be a lot easier than having to use robotics parts.
