That is an irresponsible attitude. KSP brings up a lot of scientific curiosity in younger minds. And I'm really glad that this forum has a science section for these who seek knowledge to be able to find it. But that only really works if this place has some structure to it. Otherwise, it's going to get flooded with pseudo-scientific nonsense that will only make understanding things difficult.

It's absolutely true that this isn't the purpose behind KSP forums, and perhaps not even that behind the game, but it's a great opportunity to make the world a little bit better, and it'd be irresponsible to treat it as just part of a "chatty game forum."

I agree with the idea, however this is not a rigorous peer reviewed journal, or even a school textbook publisher so knowledge found here should be considered. It is nice though when you run into an expert in the field accidentally!

  2. I don't know if this has already being submitted (and search doesn't seem to work from my ipad, maybe further to my point) it would be nive to be able to upload photos, format more easily (like remove quote boxes without spending ten minutes trying to find the exact point) from things like smart phones and tablets on the forums

  3. another one that gets me is pretty much any fight scene, a punch to the head will knock them out (it may do but it wouldn't be the non lethal, he'll get up later and be fine sort, it's the, he'll be concussed/have had a haemorrhage/not wake up later kind), punching someone does not injure the puncher who goes on to hit everyone in the head. Getting shot anywhere but hear/head is fine (it's not). I'm fine unless it's just because the writers are being lazy

  4. as said above essentially no becuse gravity is stronger, however things do get weird if expansion occurs again (where growth occurs faster than the speed of light) where gravity (assumed to be transmitted at the speed of light) would either accelerate too (no change) or stay the same (an stuff will be stretched) but this is all very edge of field stuff and i don't know enough to really weigh in

    So, just something to note:

THERE IS NO STEALTH IN SPACE!!!

Standard stealth tactics don't work because your ship needs radiators to not fail. Radiators radiate heat, which enemies can detect.

An actual cloaking device works except... What do you do with the heat?

If you can somehow hide that, then guess what happens when you use your engines?

    Loving the article!

To be stealthy in space, don't be in space...

  6. I didn't play much today, was busy seeing which mods would fight to the death when put in the same instal...

Also was amazed when a thread I started was closed after breaking 3 barred areas of discussion simultaneously! (Which I agree with entirely, was not watching it)

  7. When you are asked by someone (or just rambling on about something...) how do you justify space programs, is it the doomseer, is it science, is it exploration or is it the cool rockets etc... got asked the other day why we fund space research when people are starving on earth!

Right, forgot about that. Though I think we would still be able to use it, just that the ones inputting in data and the ones observing the resulting output will probably be many, many, many generations apart. Which makes it even more important for humanity then to think about this question, because they have this enormous computing power, just limited by the extremely laggy speed of light at that scale, so they must really carefully choose what they want to do with the thing, so that their descendent in far, far future is still capable of making use of the result no matter what have happened.

This sounds like a really good plot for a sci-fi story! Dibs on this!

Millennias ago, our ancestors asked the Galactic Computer a question, and during all these time, while waiting for it to process, humans with their petty conflicts and short sightedness waged wars against each other, resulting in near total destruction of the human race, and now, our protagonist - a descendent of the Inquirers, as our ancestors came to be known - set out on a journey to find the answer at last amidst the ruins that was once the glorious Human Civilization. Will the Answer bring salvation to the dying human race? Or has it already been too late?

it's called deepthought and the answer is:

    Spoiler

    42 and build earth

  9. Chlorine is too reactive to remain in gaseous form for very long, so really unlikely to be present in high enough concentrations to be toxic. I prefer Hydrogen sulphide (which is also a greenhouse gas so would be a nice blanket), ammonia or Carbon monoxide (which would be a killer assuming human like oxygen carriage in trace amounts)

  10. I Uninstalled 1.1, until DTL gets updated for 1.1 it's unplayable on my laptop. Then installed a whole tone of mods (decided to do a career with all of Roverdudes mods cause i know they'll be ready when I decide to switch permanently!)

Also set up my first remote tech coms network (the newtwork) which quickly got out of sync cause I got the orbits wrong, so set up the newtwork two, which then needed munar upgrades (so remote tech was my entire gameplay!)
