[1.0.5] [Delta-V Readouts] [Sandbox] Attempt at a Duna Mission, I don't believe even with KER (Kerbal Engineer Redux), KAC (Kerbal Alarm Clock), and KAX (Kerbal Aircraft Expansions) can give me enough of the readouts required to get to Duna!
Kerbin vonKerbal replied to a topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
When in doubt, go overkill and get over 10k delta-v. Because why not. -
400,000 hours is roughly 45 years. You must have played KSP before humans even went to space.

Haikus I wrote while waiting on my wife.
Kerbin vonKerbal replied to Kerbin vonKerbal's topic in The Lounge
Being married is a matter of constant compromise. She endures my fishing, video games, etc. I endure her shopping, talk of real estate and the latest on facebook. It's a common thing anybody who's married can relate to and have a good laugh about, waiting on your significant other. It feels like an eternity sometimes. Don't unnecessarily turn this innocent matter into something it's not. -
Killing your Kerbals: does it make you feel bad?
Kerbin vonKerbal replied to Boris_T_Roach's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Killing and/or abandoning them is something I hate. I just performed a Mun rescue mission for Jeb today in my new career, but the rescue vessel was short on fuel during the rendezvous. Long story short, Jeb EVA'd 33km and made it to the rescue ship and back to Kerbin with oodles and oodles of science. -
What are your standard custom action settings?
Kerbin vonKerbal replied to Wcmille's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I like to set my abort action groups based on whatever custom LES I've built for my Kerbals. Besides that it's the rare spaceplane engine toggling and solar panel deployment. -
Haikus I wrote while waiting on my wife.
Kerbin vonKerbal replied to Kerbin vonKerbal's topic in The Lounge
I'm sorry my lack of intricate knowledge of Japanese poetry does not please you. I was literally waiting on my wife while she tried on clothes, and decided to write a couple 5-7-5's on the situation. I thought any married dude coming across this would be able to appreciate and relate to them. -
What triggered your interest in spaceflight
Kerbin vonKerbal replied to Pawelk198604's topic in The Lounge
Wondering about the stars started when I was no older than 6 or 7, and my babysitters little brother convinced me that what I would later learn is Orion's Belt was UFO's in a line. My mother debunked that and explained what astronomy was. Forward time to about 5th grade, there was a section about space and American space flight curriculum to prepare us for a 3 day field trip to Houston, where I saw the almighty Saturn V laying there in the grass. I saw the inside of the room where "failure is not an option" and "main B bus under volt" and "Houston, we have a problem" were all quoted into existence. I didn't care about the theme park the next day, I wanted to stay at the space center every day. The mock-up shuttle cockpit was amazing to me. But as with almost all adults, childhood dreams die and spirit dwindles. I watched the steam trailer for KSP and with no hesitations bought it, and haven't looked back since. It's rekindled the dreams and the spirit and all the feelings of awe I felt when I saw the rockets I'd only seen pictures of come to life at the space center in Houston. -
So as some of you might know, going to the mall or any clothing store with your wife is something that takes an incredible amount of time and patience. Today as I was suffering, I decided to incorporate my feelings into haikus. They're pretty good if I say so myself, so here they are. If any profanity, even if hidden and a forewarning included is not allowed, feel free to remove the post, moderators, and my apologies in advance. Enjoy. The following contains quite a bit of profanity, so beware: edit: the profanity is automatically censored apparently. I'm sure you can figure out the original words replaced with "love".

That's a real nice looking train overland. I haven't had much of a chance to sit and thoroughly attempt a train mission yet, aside from designing the locomotive the other night. Maybe I'll give it a go tonight with a fresh install and some mods/parts packs I've never used.

Stock Propulsion Laboratory : Year 1
Kerbin vonKerbal replied to eberkain's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
This is phenomenal. Please keep this alive. -
@Overland here's a little update as of tonight... I tried. I got as far as a locomotive, which didn't perform too badly itself except when it came to turns. Granted I tried turning at roughly 30m/s, but it instantly flipped. Will try again tomorrow.

That's fantastic information, all of it. I'm glad you mentioned docking ports as that was my first thought in how to attach cars to eachother. I'll be sure to look into the mods you mentioned, and I'll update you with some of my builds as they come into play.
-
Glad to see you made it! I guess I didn't really have any one specific question, more so just wanted some general guidance. Maybe some of the rules that are universal in the way you build your trains, or something that was a big problem in the beginning for you. Whatever you feel like sharing.

Please emerge from the darkness. I've seen some of your posts a time or two, and I was thinking about trying my hand at trains in KSP for Kerbin land based contracts. I'm always trying to change up my play style as to keep the game interesting and trains next on my to-do list. Anybody can feel free to add to this, I just know off the top of my head that there's a certain user here somewhere who builds nothing BUT trains.

You could just not overthink it cause, ya know, it's a video game and all.

I'm no PC elitist by any means. I love certain games on PC, such as strategy and simulations, and I love certain games on console for the easier controlling such as FPS and RPG's. That being said, I think with the amount of clicking that needs to be done when it comes to building, setting action groups, performing science experiments, making minute adjustments to maneuver nodes, ensuring a rogue EVA kerbal survives a fall from 30km up, etc, it's all much better suited for the PC. I can't imagine myself ever wanting to play a game like KSP on my Xbox. TL:DR - KSP is too complex for the console for my taste.

RIDICULOUS OVERKILL SPACE MISSIONS!
Kerbin vonKerbal replied to HolidayTheLeek's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Whackjob would be proud. I might try my hand at this later, however when you refer to SSTO's are you talking about spaceplanes? You mentioned staging but SSTO is Single Stage To Orbit. Just wanted some clarification.- 8 replies

KSP getting boring? I want to get back into it.
Kerbin vonKerbal replied to ZedSpace's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Take a break, follow the forums, start a new career when you see inspiring mission reports, get burnt out. Lather rinse repeat. -
It came! It finally came!

@regex what kind of suggestions do you have? -
...I found KSP 0.6.5 (a pre 0.7.3 version)
Kerbin vonKerbal replied to Kaizen's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Elaborate on ships going far? Ships go as far as you design them to go.
