Yeah had this happen too. I haven't had any other landing leg issues in 1.1.2 though. My questions to the OP would be are you certain you are running 1.1.2 and are you running any mods.

Devs are on vacation so unless you are looking for updates on poolside beverages there is not much happening.

KSP inspired me to design a liquid-fueled rocket engine

This thread is full of so much awesome. Following! -
And you are basing your "majority" on a handful of people posting on a forum. Very scientific. People tend not to post when they are not having problems.

I played 1.1.2 all day yesterday and did not have a single crash. Please don't include me in your blanket statements. I am pretty happy with where things have landed so far. Haven't messed with rovers yet but landing legs seem to be in a good place. Have several landings under my belt in 1.1.2. just need a few more mods to get the bugs worked out and all will be well for me.

That's because it was polished... As in 5 patches after the initial release. You can't compare 1.1 to 1.05. Compare 1.1 to 1.0 and you might have a different story.

Actually if there is delay they would have to wait for the next transfer window in 2020.

Time will tell.

I think the analogy is actually pretty apt. If we had to throw away an airliner after every flight and someone came around and said "I have an idea, if we reuse the airplane we could make things cheaper". You would probably have a bunch of people telling them it doesn't make any sense because we only fly 10 planes a year. I agree that it remains to be seen whether SpaceX can really pull it off, but I also think that they are least trying to make things less expensive vs the old guard just going business as usual.

Screw those guys! Seriously though, I suspect it is much less likely anything will survive a high speed entry into Saturn's atmosphere than it would on the moons.

What is your biggest science pet peeve in movies?

They definitely are heavy on the "Fy". -
I think the biggest difference is the fact that a reentry vehicle the point is to slow it down vs a missle payload slowing down would make it possible to intercept and destroy it. I don't believe they spend nearly as much time in the atmosphere.

Interesting new company. With a launch cost of $2M and a payload size of 50kg it really opens up a new market. Curious what other people's thought on it would be. http://spaceref.biz/company/spacex-founding-team-launches-vector-space-systems-to-redefine-space-commerce.html

Squad has been a little silent in this thread but that's probably just because they have been hard at work fixing things. Can't wait for the Devon notes later today. Keep up the hard work guys!

This could be that your laptop is not properly using your graphics card. check out the bottom half of this post for instructions on a possible fix for you.

Strange... Are you entering in exactly retrograde? I have been running this exact config for my whole 1.1 career and have yet to have a problem. I have probably 20-25 re entries and a few from AP of 300km +. As long as I close the doors and keep a strict retrograde reentry I have no problem. Although then you can't use it to get the science at the biome you land in.
-
Yep you need to close the doors. This will solve your problem.

I started a career game at the beginning of 1.1 pre and it did not break during any of the many versions. I think you are pretty safe, but I get your reluctance.
-
Haha good to know. I swear I learn something new about this game every day.

The first flag I plant usually has something meaningful but all of the other flags have the text "delete" so that I can easily removing them from the tracking station. Really annoying that every Kerbal on the mission has to plant a flag to get the xp.

Squad knows that wheels and gear are still broken and are working on it. There were allot of issues with them in pre and it seems like every time they fixed something it broke something else. From the sound of things they had to do some creative and clunky workarounds to make wheels work right in unity 5. I am hoping we see a patch soon with some fixes. But it may be a while before they are working flawlessly again.
-
Actually I would wholeheartedly disagree with this. Career mode is actually your best bet right now. Most of the current issues are with wheels and landing legs which you can't even get in career mode for a while. I started a new career mode game as soon as the patch went live and been having a blast. I probably have about 25 hours into it now and had only one crash and the only bugs I have noticed so far are with the mods I am using (and looking at my log file I think a mod caused the crash).

I suspect if launches were vastly cheaper the number would increase...

If they were able to scale up there launches through reusing Falcons that would not shutter their manufacturing as the Second stage is expendable. They could divert manufacturing from the Falcons to build enough second stages to keep up with the increased frequency. Not to mention that they are already planning the next generation of launch vehicles.
