Three Skipper efficiency

Hi. Did 2 test flights. Album First flight: Launch: 165.150t Payload: 32.79t Configuration: 1core+2boosters, 2nd stage Second flight: Launch:165.950t Payload 30.36t Configuration: Asparagus core+2boosters, 2nd stage. In my secod flight (The asparagus one) the lost of 2 engines resulted in a lost of altitude. The tanks actually produced lift and the rocket started climbing again after gaining speed. On the above picture you can see it's climbing though the TWR is only 0.56 It took forever to get to 73km but once there only ~73m/s were require to raise the Pe to orbit. In this configuration the lost of 2 engines was very detrimental (Lost of 2/3 of the thrust while still at 1/2 mass). I have had good results with asparagus in the past. But right now I am at a lost to explain.... Except perhaps at these higher weight, 2 booster with a core powered with a much larger engine or four boosters down to 2, down to one bigger engine might be a better approach. ME- 15 replies

Squad chimp as playable character
Martian Emigrant replied to mikey117's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
OK...... Animal experimentation aside..... Most of us don't purposefully kill our Kerbals. Most of us wouldn’t kill our chimps. Monkeys, cat or dogs. But I see a half size furry Kerbal in a suit. Half the weight. Maximum experience 1 star....You need a probe core and a com link. I see 3 or 4 of them going Biome hopping on the Mun with small rovers gathering soil samples. Hum....The training center could have Bobo, Ham, Enos, Oliver and Cheeta available for hire....Cheap. You could go and rescue one.....Can they EVA? Use Backpacks? Do you get to keep them? News Flash: Kerbal stranded on Mun rescuing a Chimp. I don't know that we need them.....Would be cute..... ME -
Hi. I didn't even try to land close to the KSC. Or on the equator for that matter. But... Kerbin turns at a fix rate. An actual space program would calculate what latitude you would hit by the time you get in the atmosphere. For us doing it on the fly....I don't know how one can predict. If you don't mind doing a dozen "Simulation" you can "Widen" your trajectory to delay your arrival allowing the KSC to get where you will be. Adding 6 hours to your trip mean one full rotation of Kerbin. If you can add 6 hours to the trip you can land anywhere on the equator. ME

Same here I did a test run first. Made me see the foolish and the obvious. Added a bit of delta-V and made a better flight plan from it. ME

Done. album: http://imgur.com/a/hYdD9 Built a regular-regulation-rocket. Set Minmus as the target then waited for Minmus to move across the sky and be about 45° on the NavBall. I usually am at about 45° around 10Km. So I figured I would head straight for Minmus at that point. Kept on accelerating until the Ap was just about the distance of Minmus from Kerbin. Then played with the node until I got an encounter. Then played some more until the Kerbin Pe was about 30km. Turning the flyby into a Free-Return. Minmus Going home I must say this was fun. The challenge could be improved with more rules or mini-challenges. Such as points for closest aproach to Minmus. Mimus and Mun flyby. Time from takeoff to recovery. Cost of mission, min. fuel., etc. ME

Orbital Ion Drive Challenge
Martian Emigrant replied to Joseph Kerman's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Sorry to be Daf but "Kerbal 2 rocket" is that a one of those "Standard Rockets" that comes with the game? I deleted them as I found them all to be useless. Can I get a size (Volume or MxMxM) in Metres? Orbit or Launch pad size? Does it include the span of the solar panels? ME -
Orbital Ion Drive Challenge
Martian Emigrant replied to Joseph Kerman's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Hi @Joseph Kerman. I am trying to get my head around this and I am having a hard time. So we need to make a "Small" (Clipping allowed) craft. achieve Kerbin escape speed. have over 0.8 m1s^2 Something I missed? My current questions are: What is: "Thrice Kerbal 2's size"? Someone mentionned Com....You didn't. Does it have to be a "Probe" that communicates? Does it have to sustain 0.8 m/s^2? I could dump the extra engines after a 1 sec demonstration. ME -
Trajectory Planning!
Martian Emigrant replied to SojuSake's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
It be like..............A Negative "Time Warp"...... With bells on it.....because when time warping you can't do much but wait. So slow-Mo with the engines still running and flight planning.... I like it. ME- 14 replies

Kerbal Space Program suddenly became personal
Martian Emigrant replied to AlamoVampire's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Hi. Thanks for sharing a moment with us. My current cat is only 6 yrs old. She sleeps on my lap while I play. I cover my lap with a furry comforter while at the PC and she goes between them (The lap and comforter). Right now she is under my bed covers but she will show up and ask for affection. ME -
The Extraction Challenge!
Martian Emigrant replied to MiffedStarfish's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Finally got to this. At first I thought to built a VTOL but the competition is steep. I had to resort to a flying car. (Unimaginatively called Flying Car 2.4) A few mistakes were made. Like almost loosing control on the final run. My time: 1m50s EDIT: Not sure of my time. The video is over 3 mins long but my MET timer gives 1:50 1:53 as it was lagging... The PC isn't that fast and recording makes it even slower.... ME Edit on the EDIT: If this were a photo essay it would stand at 1:50 1:53....So I guess it is 1:50 1:53....Do not really care it was fun. -

Hey. Just found your reply. (If you want to be noticed in an older tread you really should "Quote" the person, or "Name" the person or use "Like" so a notification is sent) I.......Don't remember. I will go look at the craft. I still have the file. The decoupler was clicked to the engine in the normal way. Then was offset up using the offset tool in the VAB. The engine exhaust doesn't impinge on the decoupler. Nor does the decoupling damage the engine....in this case. When "Clipping" parts you need to try them as they can stick together and not function quite the way you would like. ME
