Use the Offset tool. It'll let you move the ion engines around the fuel tank without the hassle of struts. -

Now I might bring the (Arguably justified) wrath of NovaSilisko by mentioning this, but I personally believe that the "Precursor" planet that is alluded to in the Duna SSTV signal should be added to KSP. Of course, the planet shouldn't be discoverable in map view or the tracking station, but exist far away from the Sun on a completely randomized orbital parameter that can be calculated through other SSTV signals found in various other bodies on the solar system. Once found, Even if the whole idea of "reverse-engineering" the Precursor technology (Which admittedly would be completely overpowered) is not really a good one, the whole concept of a "Mystery Planet" that orbits far out from the Sun would add a whole new layer to the game. Maybe if not the Precursor Homeworld, why not a small system of "Mystery Planets", Brown Dwarfves with procedurally generated moons in extremely distant orbits from the Sun (While we're at it, perhaps anchor them so that the dwarves themselves do not move)? No moon would be exactly the same, but the same feeling of there being something out there that you can explore would remain. -
It doesn't work very well on my computer too. I run KSP on a Macbook, and at this point, it's already pushing the limits graphics-wise, and glitches and FPS slowdowns occur pretty often. Some of the more noted ones is Scatterer rendering the oceans of Kerbin to be a pinkish red and the entire planetary texture of Moho failing to load, making the entire planet completely white. Or KSP, instead of having the decency to crash itself, crashing my entire computer with it.

The United Provincial Space Vehicle Columbia enters into orbit around Duna, completing the goal set by the President of "Kerbals to Duna by 1987". After performing experiments and releasing probes for a week, the crew will perform a flyby of Eve before returning to Kerbin as heroes, while the Columbia will remain in orbit for refueling and restocking before making it's second mission to Moho Dres. The Columbia, a refitted Syracuse-class ion ferry, holds a crew of three and proved herself in a shakedown cruise to Minmus. Her class of ion ferries are the main lifeline between Kerbin and the colonies on her moons, with passenger (UPSV Syracuse, UPSV Dawn), exploration (UPSV Columbia, UPSV Kenorland), and freighter (UPSV Horizon) variants operating in the Kerbin system on a regular basis.

Alright, here's more. "Thousands of kilometers away from the radioactive wasteland that once had a name, tucked into the relative safety of the far side of the Mun, a computer whirred to life. It was a simple computer, and only intended for the mundane purpose of Kerbal Resources. But now it's mission, now under unexpected circumstances, was very important. Scanning through a list of onboard personnel in less than a nanosecond, the computer found no officials in the designated list of Presidental successors. It extended its search to high-ranking military personnel, and so settled upon one Bill Kerman. Bill was a Brigadier General in the Marine Corps, which was, at best, small preparation for governing the last remnants of his country. The reason he was stationed upon the Munar surface was far different from the task he was about to undertake; he had been trained to lead disciplined Marines and kerbalonauts, not masses of civilians. But he would have to do. _______________________ Bill Kerman dug his boots into the Munar soil as he strode to the ladder. The silent solitude of the night shift was eerie, but relaxing. Here was no support team behind his every move, or the constant stream of orders from Kerbin. It was simply himself versus the harsh conditions of space. Climbing the rungs of the ladder, he looked upwards toward the stars. "The stars haven't changed for ten thousand years, and they won't change for another ten thousand", came the ancient saying. He stopped for a second, contemplating his place in the universe. When I die, when my children die, and when Kerbalkind dies, these stars will still be there, and to them our histories have lasted for a second. Bill continued his climb, before reaching out his arm to grasp the handle of the airlock. Then, in one swift motion, he swung his leg up into the handle and tumbled inside. With a hiss, the airlock closed, slowly pressurizing itself to the Kerbin atmospheric pressure. Opening the second hatch into the habitat, he removed his helmet. "Hello, Mr. President" Bill ignored the computer as he headed for his quarters. The computer probably malfunctioned again. I'll have to call Kerbin to send a replacement. The computer continued. "Under the designated succession protocol, you have been appointed Commander-In-Chief of the armed forces." He paused, his hand frozen on the doorknob. "The government awaits your orders, Mr. President." General, now President Bill shrugged off the idea that this was one elaborate joke. The penalties for hacking nowadays were much too severe for even minor offenses to occur. And the computer had multiple failsafes; "overengineered", as the Kerbinside personnel would call it. But for him, a military officer stationed on the Munar farside, to be promoted to the highest office in the nation, was far too unprobable an event. Unless... "Computer, call Kerbin." "Call failed. Error Code #5271.044" "Call Kerbin", Bill repeated, in a much harder tone. "Call failed. Error Code #5271.044" still working -
I'm currently a Junior in High School and counting down the days to graduation. I'm taking AP Calculus next year, but it's not likely that I'll pursue a STEM career unless something drastic happens and I end up in the Navy or Air Force. Currently I'm planning to become a Marine Corps officer with either a major in Political Science, Astronomy, or Systems Engineering. I've wanted to be in the military my entire life, but since my GPA is too low to go to the Naval Academy, I'll probably go to a college like University of Colorado, Iowa State, Michigan State, or University of Mississippi and go through the ROTC programs there. I can't program.. I can speak Chinese and some bit of Russian and Arabic though.

Have a short rough draft of an idea here. Interested in seeing if anyone thinks it's a good idea. "The apocalypse arrived at roughly six o'clock in the evening as the day shift workers of Kerbin were returning home. It took the form of several dozen thermonuclear warheads reentering the atmosphere in streaks of light that might have been mistaken for stray meteors had the circumstances been normal. But they were far from it - the Atomic Crisis had extended into it's third week and tensions between the great powers of Kerbin were at an all time high. So when Armageddon came knocking, it took few by surprise - that is, if there was anyone left to be surprised. In great flashes of light and fire, the great cosmopolitan cities of Kerbin were snuffed out. Chadoly City, Eldrin, and the Capitol were the first to go. Next came the military bases and the spaceports; Kerman Spaceport on the Psystar Pennisula was the worst hit, taking three atomic blasts for good measure. After this came the secondary targets - transportation hubs, small ports, naval fleets, power plants, optic fiber centers, and finally, the space infrastructure that had enabled Kerbal expansion to the Min and Minimus. Space Station III, the glowing center of the fledgling interplanetary empire that had once belonged to a nation, survived the first blast and destroyed its second ring and limped onwards before being finally dispatched through kinetic missiles. The Geosynchronous Station was more fortunate; sending an on-board EVA pod to intercept the incoming missile, it survived the first hour of the Atomic War - then it drifted into a EMP cloud that had been the result of a less fortunate military satellite and all communications ceased. And with that, the last signs of civilization on Kerbin disappeared forever." -
Just curious to see where everyone else establishes their interplanetary bases. Mun or Minimus are in the Kerbin system and don't count.

Sometimes when launching a flight or switching to a flight, the screen becomes completely unresponsive. No matter if I'm alt-tabbed or in-game, none of my clicks register and I'm unable to use the keyboard at all (Not even using Activity Manager works at this point). Putting the screen down on my Macbook also has no effect at all, as it still stays on (Apple logo stays lit). Every time this happens, I have to restart my Macbook, and then it boots up completely fine. KSP also doesn't register it as a crash for some reason, but every time this has happened, I've been running it. Mods: - Scatterer (Which I've also noticed has started to glitch more with the water recently, with it appearing in a shade of red and black on occasion) - KSPRC - EVE - EngineLight - Final Frontier - Mechjeb - Mac OS X 64-bit workaround This has only recently started to happen. I have not installed any mods or done anything significant in this timeframe. I am running OS X 10.10.5 Yosemite.

Although I am against any inclusion of the human race into any plotline involving KSP, the movie looks pretty good and it's a concept that's interesting; I could definitely see this going somewhere. The creators of this movie are doing nothing wrong by creating a Kickstarter. Yes, they can back it themselves, but they're people with jobs and families and outside obligations to KSP, and they aren't forcing anyone to donate.

In chronological order. The first landing on Minimus, a end of an era as the exploration of the Kerbin system winds to an end. Space Station III, which at 404 tons and a capacity of 750 Kerbals, is the largest space station assembled and the offworld center of operations for the National Astronautics Agency. Launched after the construction of the main Munar base. A KerSAT-class communication satellite above Kerbin. These satellites, often located at geosynchronous orbit, form a crucial network enabling constant contact between Kerbin and the Mun as well as fast communication on Kerbin itself. AREB-1 awakes from hibernation and resumes it's mining activities. A completely automated mining base run by a semi-sapient AI computer, the AREB allows for affordable industrialization of the Mun without putting any Kerbal lives at risk. Gondwana Munar Base, the second manned base on the Munar surface. It serves as a radio relay station between the multiple AREB bases to the east and the main Munar base to the west. It is also capable of conducting mining operations itself, and has it's own radio telescope. It can hold 6 Kerbals permanently, and currently has a crew of 2.

Gondwana Munar Base has completed Phase One of construction. It is the second manned base to be built on the Mun, and serves primarily as fuel refinery and radio communication relay between the robotic mining bases to the east and the Munar colony to the west. The base holds 18 Kerbals at surge capacity with a permanent capacity of 6 Kerbals. It is currently crewed by two Kerbals and a advanced AI computer that oversees day-to-day operations as well as monitoring data from the Gondwana Radio Telescope. The base has two mining rovers with a approximate range of 10KM, and is tucked inside a crater of a crater of a crater, only three kilometers away from the site of the first manned landing on the Mun.

What top 10 (or less) mods couldn't you do without?

1) EVE - KSP is absolutely beautiful with this, keeps me inspired and keep playing. There is nothing like releasing probes into a thunderstorm on Eve or watching Kerbin fade into a distance and thinking for a second that it's Earth. 2) Scatterer - The effects of this on the horizon and water cannot be understated. Water actually looks like water, and distant mountains actually look distant and not like a painting. 3) Distant Object Enhancement: Makes space seem much more realistic by making the skybox dark when the sun is out and makes it so you can see your ships in orbit as they fly past. 4) Mechjeb: Keeps me interested by accomplishing the tedious work like entering orbit with a design used several dozen times successfully in the later-game periods of career mode. 5) KSPRC: Built off EVE, makes the game feel and look so much more realistic. 6) Chatterer: The game feels lifeless and dead without it. The voices of Kerbals serve to remind me I'm not totally alone in the void. -
I usually follow several rules. - Each Space Station has a "surge capacity", which is every module full. Stations may not remain in "surge capacity" for more than a month. The "permanent capacity" of a station must be less than a third of the amount of spots on the station with artificial gravity. - For a space station to be considered "permanent" and "self-sustaining", it must provide artificial gravity for its residents and constant power, as well as enough space for leisure activities and whatnot. - Part count must be minimized as much as possible, since all stations must be able to service ships when necessary. This includes large interplanetary cruisers (Haven't reached that point yet, soon will). - Space Stations may only be launched into areas that have already been explored and landed upon and with a satellite relay network to provide constant uplink with Kerbin (Same goes for bases). This means no stations around the Sun or outside the Kerbin System, due to my lack of interplanetary satellites. For example, Space Station III, which is the main space station orbiting Kerbin, has a "surge capacity" of 750 Kerbals, but only a "permanent capacity" of 200. With only 230 parts, it can service every spacecraft I have, and since the station has artificial gravity and a nuclear reactor, Kerbals can stay on indefinitely. And since there are around 20 communication satellites around Kerbin, it is in constant contact with the Munar base and Mission Control.

Hmm, let's see. Each rescue mission grants me 75,000 funds including advance, which I can determine to be the a fee from the company to cover the expenses of adjusting and retraining the Kerbals they strand in space as well as their weekly wages for the duration of retraining. Since each Kerbalonaut requires a month of retraining and adjustment and each rocket I send to rescue the Kerbals is standardized at a cost of 17,000 funds per Kerbal and each rocket can rescue two Kerbals, then 18,000 funds is allotted to each Kerbal upon their return. (2,500 is the "processing" fee for the bureaucrats at the Administration Building) Due to the strict safety standards that my space program oversees, the price of land around the space center is extremely high since it surrounds the largest spaceport on Kerbin, and so it is comparable to rent in Silicon Valley ($3,000 per month). Toss in another 10,000 funds for food, transportation, uniforms, and training, and you'll end up with a monthly wage of 5,000 funds, which means a wage of 60,000 funds every year. With each Kerbal serving a three year tour of duty in space unless they are slated for an exploration mission, this comes out to a cost of 180,000 funds, which isn't that unreasonable when you realize how outrageously expensive the Astronaut Complex hiring is. It's Russia Today, which is a pretty biased source considering that it's funded by the Russian government (Of course they want to present themselves in a better light than the pesky Americans). Unless some other source like BBC confirms this, it's doubtful. -
Lieuutenant Barbert Kerman, United Provincial Navy, was killed in action on May 21st, 1962 after the third stage of the Redstone IV rocket fired fifty degrees away from the target angle, sending his Apogee to 350KM and making his capsule unrecoverable due to the reentry angle becoming too steep. Barbert impacted the ocean after six minutes of flight at 79m/s, killing him instantly. He was awarded the Space Medal of Valiance for his actions. Lieutenant Barbert was a naval aviation officer, serving with distinction during the Pennisular War as well as acting as a flight instructor to Academy students. Prior to this, he was a graduate in Aircraft Studies from Doenee Institute of Technology. In his wake is two children and a wife. His loss is greatly mourned by all.

My happiest moment was going to space. A friend lent me his copy of KSP 0.15, and I would just launch suborbital rocket after rocket, just to be amazed at the face that I was in space. I didn't care I couldn't orbit or go to the Moon. I was just etastic and leaving the atmosphere Now I can't even be bothered to orbit.- 29 replies
