  1. The Soviet TOPAZ-I nuclear reactor was 320kg and the TOPAZ-II reactor was ~1000kg. TOPAZ-I could make 5KW of power for 3-5 years. This technology is decades old, if we can't make it better by now we're not doing something right.
  2. You could make a line in the computer to say "hey, this maneuver spells ___ or looks like ___, let's not do this" because if you can program the rovers to not go into holes you can probably program them for 2d path recognition.
  3. @ZLM-Master That's a cool looking plane! I'm on BDAc 1.1 playing KSP 1.3.1 but if that's an issue 1.2.2.2/1.4.5 is fine as I'm planning 2 major scenes, the actual combat is being done in 1.4.5 but I would prefer if the crafts were 1.3.1 compatible (not a requirement, though). @Coca992 That thing looks freaking badass. I will most definitely be slapping some missiles on it!
  4. Oh, so that's what I'm doing wrong! No wonder my 2 engine cluster model rocket failed.
  5. I agree with @Mad Rocket Scientist. NERVs generate little if any thrust at Eve sea level and because of that would get a really low specific impulse. The electric propeller option is great if slow, but unfortunately you'd need a way to attach it which is fairly difficult. I agree you're going to want Vectors, Mammoths, or Aerospikes. They get decent isp at ESL. The problem I can foresee is how you are going to refuel it in the middle of the ocean... One thing I did on Eve, while not on water, was a transportation craft that could refuel itself and used 2 vectors and a mammoth. It is called the ESREP, Evian Self Refueling Exploration Plane, basically an airliner for Eve. Unfortunately my only experience with interplanetary boats is a tiny submarine on Laythe that I haven't used yet. Good luck!
  6. Thank you, @dundun92 and @Thor Wotansen for your contributions, this greatly reduces the amount of time I have to spend on craft building for this chapter.
  7. Hmm. I have 8GB installed currently and it's been enough for everything I can throw at it besides a 500 part station. Although I couldn't install all of the parts mods. Framerate is definitely no bueno though.
  8. Like make them transparent in the editor? Or physically non-existent?
  9. http://www.aircommandrockets.com/ These guys are the kings of water rockets. I suggest you check them out. I myself have done some, including one taller than me, but I don't actually have a launch pad that can go above ~60PSI so I can't actually get it off the ground. If I had 50-100 bucks I could build the right pad but I'm still procrastinating on getting a job.
  10. Almost certainly. I have done four launches in October alone and depending on how things go I might have up to 8 more. Lots of small stuff, though, so far sprinkled with exploding big stuff... Now, to steal that probe... Wait, did I say that out loud?
  11. Glad to hear it! KSP has inspired many others as well, including me. Although I do not yet know where I am going to college, I, mostly because of KSP, have decided I want to go into aerospace as well.
  12. Yes. Why you'd want to do that is beyond me, though, a single BFS would have many times more habitable volume than the currently proposed Deep Space Gateway and is expected to become more operational before Mars Base Camp, not to mention potentially many times less expensive than MBC.
  13. Unfortunately, looking at his profile, he last visited on October 29, 2017, nearly a year ago. Last post was on May 5 2017 saying Ch. 54 should be out in a week or so but IRL was getting busy. Unfortunately, if this story has not been permanently halted, it is on a really long hiatus. So, wherever you are, whatever you are doing, @Parkaboy, Good luck and godspeed from the KSP community - we hope you are enjoying life.
  14. Ultimate Steve - July-September 1955 (Cycle 19) Notebook Space Program - Spying, Flying, and Bombing! @qzgy Yup, an interesting Q3! Not as interesting as I had hoped (if the month was one day longer then yay!). Hopefully yours isn't too interesting...
  15. YES! At long last! Reddit is probably already freaking out over this, I should probably check over there.
  16. Okay, so no door. As in there's just an entryway with the hollow space inside, no entryway with hollow space inside, or as in no entryway, no hollow space? The second one can be done by just not opening the door and for the third one you could just use a fuselage for, drained of fuel. I'm not sure what exactly could be gained by having the first option besides not having to work around extended doors.
  17. I'm sorry, we've checked and we cannot find that vehicle anywhere on Earth.
  18. Ultimate Steve - April-June 1955 (Cycle 18) Notebook Space Program - Now Stealing QZGY's preview line! Now with more explosions! @qzgy appears to be accelerating in his efforts. Going at me for saying "Only" 5 launches and then launching 7 in one quarter... And flying 3 crew before us. Mad props to him.
  19. That was a paid version, and while it is antiquated it is illegal to share, unfortunately. @SQUAD I know it's rare for a response, but would it be too much to ask for all versions of the game to be downloadable from the store? I appreciate that you have released all 1.0+ versions, but it would be fun to play around with the others.
  20. If I don't make it as an astronaut or aerospace engineer I could become an aerospace reporter and actually get things right.
  21. @sevenperforce I'm guessing you've moved on, which is fine. Not pushing you or anything. Just making sure it's not anything else.
  22. @Cloakedwand72 The word that best describes aerospace is "delays." Don't expect a concrete launch date until a few weeks (if not 1 week) before hand, especially for SpaceX... and then add a few days in case of scrubs and further delays. That being said, DM1 is currently slated for November and the abort test is scheduled for Q1 2019 sometime. These are estimates that are kept by the dedicated people who run /r/SpaceX. As for viewing, check here: https://www.reddit.com/r/spacex/wiki/faq/watching The Crew Dragon will be launching from LC 39A and not SLC-40 or SLC-4E because that is where the crew access arm will be installed, so look at entries with a good view of 39A. And if you're going to make a long distance trip around this, don't set it in stone until a few days before in case of delays, and again spend multiple days there in case of scrubs.
