totm nov 2023 SpaceX Discussion Thread

(Guy in a SpaceX hat holding a "Moon" sign at the end of MrBeast's most recent video, he also popped his head into the frame in front of the sign and said "I wonder what that means") Could be really small, could be really big. On the small end it could be any number of things, but on the big end it could be him going on a circumlunar flyby like DearMoon. Even at the low end, it is at least mildly relevant to SpaceX so I'll put it here. I don't mean to baselessly speculate on the "big" end of the possibilities this suggests, but *baselessly speculates* EDIT: Worth mentioning that he has dealt at least a small amount with Elon before. Elon donated a million dollars to TeamTrees. -
0/10 I'm allergic to crabs. I pasted a link that I was sharing with a friend, it's a song I'm writing that's a work in progress, but I don't think I feel comfortable sharing it with the public yet.

I've had an interesting time with this so far. I did Val mode, but with a few difficulty changes, nothing too major though. Pretty close to standard normal mode. I have managed to reach orbit. I think this is the first time in vanilla KSP I've sent probes to orbit before Kerbals. Also, both DLCs are installed. Val mode, Part 1

This is painful -
Edit: That was a stupid question, never mind.

Me: Okay, sounds great, when do I - ...Oh, so there's a catch... Will make an attempt, unsure if I will get very far though.

Apparently this is the third flight of one of the fairing halves! Abort at T-18. -
What Was Your First Ever Flight In KSP?
Ultimate Steve replied to Miguelsgamingch's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Unfortunately I don't have screenshots, but it was in 0.19.something and it was a mk1 pod, parachute, tr-18a decoupler, and an RT-10 SRB. Shortly after that I made a stupid rover but the solar panels broke off. -

I remember those days! Back when I lurked, before I had an account. When the new style came in I remember everyone complaining that it hurt their eyes because it was so bright. -

*pop* goes the Starship! -
The first few chapters, yes. But I guess that's just a sign that I've gotten better.

I am repulsed by the cringiness of my four years ago writing but at the same time hoping I'll one day have the time and motivation to finish that story.

Can someone refresh me on sn9 and sn10? I know that sn7 is a test tank, sn8 is neat done, and we have seen a few parts for sn11, but i have forgotten what stage 9 and 10 were at. -

Parts of the M1 got built, but I don't think there are Any other competitors unless there's something obscure and soviet I haven't heard about. -
Talking about Photon on the stream. So likely not anything super groundbreaking as in some of the above speculation.

4 ish minutes until hop assuming siren is accurate. -
Initially I thought it was gonna be something small, like Photon updates, or selling a kick stage to other launch providers, or an update on reusability or something like that, but because they titled the stream "The Next Chapter" I'm inclined to believe that its something bigger. Doesn't necessarily have to be a launch vehicle (electron heavy, starship lite (more likely than EH IMO) or otherwise), could be them building space related hardware for non LV applications (some participation in Artemis?) or something related to their planned Venus mission. Could also be something I'm not thinking of. I'm 99.9% sure this isn't it, but theoretically (300kg payload) you could launch a decently sized human (80kg), spacesuit (100kg?) and MOOSE (90kg) with 30kg left over for structure, supplies, etc. and perform very basic orbital human spaceflight. This would not be safe by any definition of the word (no LES, very minimal capsule) but it would be possible. However, due to the lack of safety and use case, I'm almost certainly sure this isn't it. Of the above options, though, a new launch vehicle sounds at least relatively likely as far as "The Next Chapter" goes. Unless they are still counting reusability as "The Next Chapter," which is possible because they haven't done it yet.

"We will never do reusability" "We will never build a bigger rocket"

We don't know for sure, but if they want to optimistically have it hopping in October, we should see it start in the next week or two IMO (not an expert). The high bay is nearly done (on the outside at least) so there's not much stopping them from starting. -
Well I have work to do anyway and I had a nap earlier, might as well stay up for this I guess... DIVH is temperamental though so there will probably be more setbacks.

Wait, like, a working machine on a human??? I thought they were years away! Edit: Read up on the topic of BMIs in general and I have come to realize that I knew pretty much nothing when I posted that. I am no longer surprised that they have a machine this early. The future's gonna be wild, and I'm not sure if I'm ready for that much wild.
