  1. Jeb starved to death after my very first launch. Playing career a kraken tried to mate with my rolling science capsule and it was ripped appart and the game crashed. When I reloaded the game he was leaving kerbins SOI at escape velocity from the kerbol system. I hadn't even enough science for the first upgrade so he starved to death on his way to glory. I kept his capsule loaded as a momento and tracked it's progress into interstellar space throughout the career. It actually blitzed through Jools SOI like it didn't exist just a straight line right through. I renamed it Jebs Voyager after that.
  2. First IVA docking Wooo and in truth my first station docking since docking was a mod. I'm gonna do and a full mission to space IVA some day. But now I need to figure out the best crew rotation before I launch a return vessel for the crew I also need to leave jeb and val up there for now as the only other pilot on the crew needs returning to Kerbin. Also just realised my ENTIRE staff is now on a single station Well then the KSC is going to have to be unmanned for a while I guess no biggie. Easy now Val.... steady.... steady.... Tadaaaaaaa
  3. Somehow all your normals are flipped in Unity Engine. That just shouldn't happen.
  4. Gotta love these crimes quests of passion. I guess that's part of the fun of KSP though you can set your own goals and adventures and contracts are just there to fund them.
  5. RAMP IT GO ON!!!! But seriously I know what I'm doing when I get a settlement down on Duna. I'm only just setting up around minimus though, that and collecting crew from orbit before docking the minimus station to the Kerbin station for crew topups and to wait for refueling. Had a bit of a "what the?" moment with my first crew rescue though. (is editing a save file to put them into a pod they can escape from cheating if you edit it back after they escape?)
  6. Best companion challenge in ksp ever. I must do this myself sometime. Companion Tank.
  7. Try adjusting the friction on the wheels. I found that adding downforce and mass to lighter vehicles helped them climb slopes. If you are interested in preventing accidental takeoff at the crest of hills then more mass and higher friction are options that might help you. These are modified smaller faster racing versions of the same wheels but other than speed and size they haven't been adjusted for traction, but the extra weight seems to give a bit more going uphill. And downforce with the same modified wheels lets me do crazy speed and still not go crazy while cornering. That car is doing 166mph and 93mph by the way respectively. That's 2 examples of weight and downforce helping with traction in KSP without the fin or weight they skit about and struggle uphill at times.

  9. So I have a ton of minimus contracts that have built up in my inbox. This involves deploying 2 satellites, a flyby with returned science, a hefty ore load recovery to Kerbin orbit (1150), and surface science from several locations be taken. Now I intend to be sending this mission completely unmanned and so hidden in the COT marker is a small telemetry unit for landing and one on the front window. I hope to do all but the ore contract in one launch. This vehicle is intended to be remotely controlled and loaded with science modules that will later be removed and stored with KAS/KIS by the crew when they arrive and fit it with life support and other storage much later. This is the rough draft and I have RCS and other things to add moving forward. I'm having trouble upping the DV though beyond what it has and I haven't even loaded it up with science instruments yet. I might just loose some solar panels and a few other pieces but more or less LFO tanks is lowering the DV so I can only assume these engines are at their ISP/mass efficience as far as fuel goes. I'm also trying not to use drop tanks either I would rather try and recover or use everything as per my self imposed rules for this play through. @CatastrophicFailure I don't think I have ever seen someone so resentful of their spaceplane. Accidental or not.
  10. Bob decided he was going to field test the Land Barge 1E (Experimental) because he wasn't happy that there was a contract to take surface samples just over the hill and nobody was doing it. Management tried to stop him but Bob was having none of it. He just sang " Look at me still talking when there's science to do. " in a strangely robotic voice before grabbing the keys and running out the door to the Land Barge 1E and was gone. This left everyone confused in the Komand room but they decided to let him go and eat some cake in his absence. Nobody really knew why they decided on cake but it seemed fitting as there was little else they could do to stop hm so they never questioned it. 45m/s Uphill not too shabby. Bob figured he'd do some extra rover science. Starting Small. When they were planning the vehicle I don't think this is what they meant by flexible design. Seems to take the impacts really well though. Soooo........ Like any kid who just learned how to ramp their bike he steps it up a little. Hey not bad. Bob... Bob what are you doing????? BOB!!! Ohno... This thing has impressed me I never expected it to be so robust. Maybe when Ken "Kerblock" finds his way back to the KSC he can really put it through it's paces but until then Bob has been locked into a science kupboard for his own safety and will soon be shipped to the space station already in orbit. He overslept the morning of it's launch so he missed the flight. He says he was stuck in traffic but he lives at the KSC so nobody believes him.
  11. I finished the functional design tests and development of the Land barge and now it's just a case of making a few specialised variants for traveling across Kerbin with. One place I'll be sending a crew is North and another West with a mining rig and some workshops. To set up base camps to operate from. I should really get onto scanning Kerbin for resources. I know I can pretty much get ore anywhere as the Runway has been bountiful in tests but management aren't too pleased with the crew digging holes where planes are supposed to land. Anyway here's a few failed tests that resulted in splodey wheel docking bugs. And this is what I ended up with once I solved the splodey wheels (I had to use my modded racing wheels, They will get an upgrade to a larger set when I progress down the tech tree) I'm going to have to hire some new crew for expeditions but these rovers can run on pathfinder so no problem in getting a convoy out there and running it on a skeleton crew until I rescue a few Kerbals from space. Just need at least one Kerbal so they can control vehicles in the local vicinity since coms are intermittent around the planet at the moment. This whole barge with 2 cabs and no payload is under 55k with basic life support for 4 kerbals to last for 10 days I just need to add waste storage for more than a day.
  12. I just see black and maybe some sort of patched conics line or something
  13. I tested each part of my rover and they all worked fine until I had them all connected, It consists of 5 parts 1 inner module with 2 identical rovers at each end and a pair of running boards or connectors holding them together. The main issue being that the whole thing flopped and bounced about until all the wheels were busted bar the inner mining module which was fine and didn't bounce about at all. The whole vehicle was launched as one vessel but it just went crazy flopping like a fish until all the tires were popped. This is my rover for the sake of so you can see what I mean and how it's built in case that helps any. any help or advice would be helpful. The wheels are from Buffalo and the inner module is EPL. The wheels are mounted to IR parts but I haven't had trouble with the wheels being mounted on them until I launched the vessel with module and the Rear cab attached. Any advice would be appreciated. Edit : The instant I docked the cab to the smelters All the tires popped at once. And the two cabs connected by the two running boards could drive just fine but then would suddenly have the tires all take their turn to pop within 2 seconds. I was watching the wheel stress and it showed no sign of high stress though the bounced like they wre running over something despite being stationary. I will note the two smelters are using the same wheels and they haven't popped.
  14. I made more progress in my Land Barge project. Wheels and hinges don't get on with each other so I had to make it heavier than I intended. But I had some fun with it while testing. Unfolding the wheels and legs doesn't lift the vehicle off the floor. You can deploy the standing legs and the wheels independently of each other. They can also be used to raise the cab independently but there is so many robotic parts I have only linked some of them up to keys for the moment considering I keep having to rebuild the lifting legs. I think this is close to the final version of the lifting mechanism though. And it drives pretty well and handle bumps fairly well. Those terrain seams are a bit of a pain though and cause a little concern. This doesn't work but until I can figure out how to put the wheels onto hinges I can't rotate the wheels and still have it look ok. And of course a bit of fun. More to be done in the future but I have to do my shopping now before the shops close.
  15. I've been developing a modular Land Barge using the Buffalo mod, EPL and IR. I want something that can deploy a cargo around Kerbin (And later other planets with EPL) and pick it up. The important part is that it needs to have lifting legs that can lay the cargo down and then lift up the cab to give clearance to the payload. I also want to be able to fit a crane to the Barge and still be able to provide lateral support to the Barge to prevent it from tipping over. This is just an EPL test I intend to have these as separate modules in future. And this is the lifting mechanism. I have the legs on rotors so that I can turn the wheels that will later be fitted sideways and Parallel park so to speak. And for the crane state. There will be two running boards that can be swapped out with shorter or longer ones for different payloads and a rear cab that will probably be just a second one of these cabs. The nice thing about it is I can make a handful of specifically purposed cabs for different jobs and they should all just work together. This one is a Kargo Kab and has storage space for KIS/KAS parts and any other pieces needed for fitting the payloads in their location. I just had an Idea for a buoyancy module for deploying boats to the water.
  16. I'm having fun with those wild goose chase contracts using Bon Voyage it's great I set my rovers to the next waypoint and then go handle something I need to actually pilot. Then when the rovers are there I just take my readings and then rinse and repeat. I used to avoid them in the past but now they are pretty good and are more like an investment in a contract slot in exchange for a small amount of cash over time.
  17. @Stewcumber @JadeOfMaar One of you has to build a track and share the save or set a challenge of some sort like round the island base and back then race each other. Oh please do. I haven't even got near making boats since 0.90 so I haven't even got anything to throw into the hat but I think I might have to learn how to sail rockets soon.
  18. Finally landed the plane at KSC and made it with 12% fuel. Found out that I had taken 1218 screenshots during the 5hr 23min mission. I'm going to have to go through it and assess the collection and make an image dump of the best of them for a mission log so to speak. Until then I have a few snaps to tide the fans over The crew rejoices as Kafrica becomes a welcome landmark over the horizon. The mountains that every pilot who has ever flown from KSC should know like the back of their glove. Valentina gets a tad bit excited and almost kills the crew just as they can see home. Suddenly the instruments partially come back to life but alas they are less than reliable and give a conflicting airspeed report. Val asks bill to look at it after they have had some rec time. And touchdown is a tense moment for everybody but Valentina's confident she has this plane figured out. Especially now the tanks are nearly empty. Valentina passes her first "toy" as she lands her second. Stopped and landed. Cut all those resource numbers in half for the real values but if you go by % you are good. And the crew set off to find some much needed rest and Kalcoholic beverages. (For this save I intend to leave aircraft on the tarmac and refitted with KAS/KIS unless I feel they need to be decommissioned. If they are reusable then I'll just restock them and take the cost hit for the whole plane until then) This plane cost 66k Meta game snaps in spoiler. I'll edit this post later with a link to the whole mission log when I'm done processing all the pictures into an album. But after that flight the crew are fairly confident this plane could make it round the globe with a few upgrades some careful piloting and a little time in Bills errr Gym
  19. They actually have a function if you turn on com networks and ground stations. I'm thinking of modding my game so they have the properties of working antenna but only work when connected to power. Hopefully it works.
  20. Someone should get onto that. Is it possible to adopt a mod without the authors consent if the author is MIA? I ask because of squads Source code policy states source MUST be made available and anything beyond that is really up to common courtesy right? (Common courtesy being that you hand control back to the original author if they return and you haven't got express permission/blessings to adopt said mod) I'd love to see this back in RPM.
