  1. I just want to use the lunar rover! But my attempts made KSP crash for the first time on my new computer. And that's quite impressive actually, considering the stress I've put on the game with my modlist and graphical settings. I had successfully deployed the rover on the Mun, and I was trying to position it to assemble the rest of it. But when I got Bob out of the seat, it caused the rover to violently jostle and flip around onto its side. I tried to push it around, and got it turning more. When it was about on its wheels, I tried to use timescale to force it to stop rotating. Evidently that was a mistake, as it only caused the rover to clip through the ground. And then when I backed out of timescale, the game decided "I think I've had enough" and that was that. Maybe I'll just stick to the Lunar Flying Vehicle
  2. Shall give it a shot. For this one, do you install it by just dropping the JNSQ_Config folder into GameData or by merging JNSQ_Config into the Parallax_StockTextures folder?
  3. Is there a Parallax config for JNSQ that works? Maybe I just installed it wrong, but all the ones I've tried(three of then) gave me both the Kopernicus error message and the infinite loading screen
  4. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" —Jebediah Kerman So it turns out the X-15 is not designed to reenter at near orbital velocity. I was doing some tests with BDArmory and a certain kinetic kill vehicle, but it seems I pushed it a little too far. They were fine, by the way. But it did get a little... toasty
  5. I made another flight with the SERJ, this time from the Dessert airfield to the KSC. I quite like this photo I took along the way. I call it "Rosy-fingered Dawn" viewed at Mach 4.5, 23 kilometers altitude And this time my landing was buttery smooth. I didn't even lose the air intake which I usually do. And even better: Jeb won't need to walk very far at all to get home.
  6. Hm. With the XLR-11, the X-15 at about 13 km doesn't even have enough power to maintain a positive AoA Edit: Also I do still think the droptanks make flight performance significantly worse. Like barely able to hold course, worse
  7. I flew the SERJ X-15 from the KSC to the Dessert airfield. In JNSQ. And I almost made it, too! Unfortunately I ran out of fuel about 10 or so kilometers out, whereupon the X-15 proceeded to drop like a rock. Fell short of the runway by a few hundred meters. My landing performance... ah... need not go mentioned. The X-15 actually flies pretty well now. I installed FAR. There's still some squirrelly-ness, especially in the pitch+roll axis and especially especially at high AOA's(High being relative. I was trying to keep the SERJ at a steady 24~25km as any higher and the SERJ loses performance, but trying to pitch up to maintain climbrate generally led to undesirable oscillations. Nothing that couldn't be handled but certainly unpleasant for both myself and Jeb on account of the g-forces). Also I do notice that the vehicle has remarkably high drag. Without the engines burning I couldn't keep it's speed up without nosing into a 70 degree dive. Is this intended?
  8. It actually worked pretty good. Yes, all the first stages jettisoned at once, and then later all the second stages. Actually I didn't burn the second stage to completion, but that's the idea. Indeed, here's a photo
  9. T H E C O N T R A P T I O N Based off that one funky X-15 proposal to strap it to the top of four Titan I's I just realized its supposed to have four Titan I's, not five
  10. No, no aerodynamic mods. Would something like Ferram improve things or make it worse? And in any case, I'm placing all the parts as intended. You kinda can't use symmetry with it, anyway cause everything is fitted with nodes rather than surface attach
  11. Is the X-15 extremely unstable for anyone else? Especially in the roll axis and with the drop tanks attached. I cannot get it to fly straight no matter how much SAS and RCS I use. Without the drop tanks it becomes more manageable but it obviously somewhat hinders performance.
  12. Damn, nice specs. Any specific make and model? I might look for a new laptop at some point when I save up enough
  13. oh it says kerbochrome, yea that makes sense Anyway I made this on a whim when I recognized this habit that doesn't make any sense. I mean realistically I could leave KSP running all day long in the background if I really wanted to and it wouldn't matter cause these missions take weeks. But hey, guess I don't want to miss anything
  14. What is this supposed to be? It looks like a tin of sardines Anyway I've been playing with the free IVA mod some more. The lunar shelter is much roomier than the ascent module, considering the lack of engine hardware.
  15. I use offset COM and while the capsule does get very toasty, it rarely explodes on me. Either play around with the angle of attack and find one where heating isn't as bad, or rapidly adjust angle of attack constantly. Rock the capsule back and forth, in other words. Or just don't use offset COM
  16. My ground test of the lunar rover system is not going well https://i.imgur.com/v0AMdpv.mp4 But I have developed a novel form of propulsion
  17. From an orbital test of the full Apollo CSM I recently performed Hmm I wonder what's down here Try the free-IVA mod if you can, I highly recommend it. There are some mods that it plays wonderfully with. You can travel freely between the CM and the LM in first person view!
  18. Well, slight change of plans. I forgot I attached the gemini lunar nose camera instead of the docking port, so I can't dock the centaur TLI stage. But, my augmented Titan launch vehicle was powerful enough that I still have 2000 m/s ΔV in the second stage, so I'll just use that. I think the Advanced Gemini solar panels are on backwards edit: Wait now its fixed?
  19. I'm gonna do a lunar flyby with advanced gemini and a centaur. Can the gemini survive reentry from lunar velocities? Time to find out!
